Hello fellow music lover!

My name is Scott, and I'm a musician with 15+ years of performance experience. I've studied guitar performance at Berklee College of Music and performed in various configurations from funk/soul ensembles, to folk-rock bands and I write my own music that I perform as a solo artist.

I love teaching because it allows me to share my love of music and help people grow creatively in the direction of their choice. My feeling is, if you're choosing to invest in your artistic development, it should be an enjoyable experience based around what you're interested in learning about. To that end, all of my lessons are customized to the tastes and preferences of each student. We'll identify the goals you'd like to work towards, the music you want to play and take concrete steps in line with your creative vision.

My areas of expertise include folk, blues, rock, soul, funk and pop music with particular interests in songwriting and improvisation. However, I'm ...

Scott is a patient and supportive teacher. He helped me tap into my musical intuition while also supporting a practical understanding of music theory. Working with Scott felt like having a mentor, rather a teacher, to support me on my musical journey.
Kelly
Scott taught me introductory drums. Scott is warm, funny, and adaptable - he made learning fun and easy for me. I didn't feel dumb when I made mistakes, in no small part because Scott was very encouraging and pointed out the things I was doing well!

Another reason to take lessons with Scott - he's incredibly talented and plays multiple instruments. For example, I wanted to practice playing drums in a "band" setting, so Scott grabbed an electric bass and we started jamming.

10/10 would recommend, especially if you like laughing a lot while you learn a new skill!

You must know the Freddy King style, major and minor pentatonic scales, you must know both. Clapton is mostly pentatonic. By copping MANY solos I've cracked the code on pentatonics. If you only know the minor,,,, it's time time to go to the next level. And if you are strong with both pentatonic scale, next is Dorian (Santana). Also blues rhythm guitar, what you are doing most of the time. Many hot lead players, being a great rhythm player will have you win the audition. The singer will love you. And, you must have good/great vibrato, bend that note up an make it sing, really say something. There is a best way to do this and you will want to add it to your practice routine. You'll be glad you did, and so will the people listening.

About Sam

I have been playing guitar and bass in blues, classic rock, country, and RnB bands for 20 years. I have been teaching at the Norfolk School of Music for 10 years. I love playing gigs, teaching, jamming, learning songs and riffs from CDs, and will continue doing all this if I win the lottery , or g

Growing up in Mississippi and North Carolina, blues music is a fundamental part of my life. While blues is fundamental to me, it is also a huge part of modern music. Learning the blues is one of the most important things any modern day musician can do! Study the great delta blues players, Piedmont blues, city blues, jazz blues, etc!

With most teachers, practicing an instrument as a beginner can feel like a chore. It is my mission to make practicing guitar the highlight of your day, every single step of the way.

When I first started learning guitar, I convinced myself that I was going to give up at least once a week. This is because I hadn't yet discovered the secret to learning music the fun way. I'll tell you that secret, which I didn't realize until 6 years into playing for various bands: being a good musician is not about mastering technic, knowing the names of all the scales and rhythms, or being able to move your fingers in the fastest or hardest ways. Being a good musician is about loving music. If you can connect to what you're playing, you will create beautiful sounds. It's as simple as that.

In our lessons, you'll connect to what we're playing because you will take the reins: we'll start by learning the music you love. We can find a way to tailor any song you love to your skill level so that you can ...

I don't have very much experience with guitar, but asked if Parker wouldn't mind teaching me a song I really wanted to learn. Parker did a great job of taking me through some basics which made learning the song so much easier. He also gave me some great tips moving forward with learning more guitar. I will definitely be reaching out to Parker again. Thanks man!

"I have been taking lessons with Eric for almost three years and I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking about taking any kind of music lessons. I initially started with blues guitar lessons because I wanted to be able to play my favorite songs or maybe impress girls. Over the years Eric got me interested in so much more.

I learned music theory, jazz standards, improvisation, fingerstyle techniques, how to play and sing at the same time, and how to write and record my own songs. He inspired me to take on piano as a second instrument, initially through him but eventually through classically trained instructor.

What started as basic guitar lessons for a potential hobby turned into my tiny apartment becoming cluttered with musical instruments and audio recording equipment. For this I only have Eric to thank."

"I started to take lessons 6 months ago and I am really surprised how far I have gotten. I am a 57 year old male on the verge of retiring and Donnie has been able to communicate with me effectively and keeps me challenged. I would really recommend him to any age because he is a great teacher and very personable to take instruction from. He has offered to take my lessons on-line while recover from surgery. This is really great because I get to keep my momentum up. If you want a great teacher for a reasonable price this is your guy."

"I have been a student of Tim’s for a little over a year now. I started playing guitar at age 52 and when I started with Tim I was very close to giving up or settling on just being able to strum a few chords. I have had many hand injuries in the past that have resulted in arthritis and lack of dexterity in my wrists and some of my fingers and I started doubting I would ever be able to progress in my ability to play. From the very first lesson where I told Tim about my hand issues and my frustrations, he told me he was sure we could work around any physical limitations I had, and he was right. Tim has been able to work with me on alternative ways to play the chords I was having trouble with and has shown me that these alternate techniques along with the bit of music theory he sprinkles into lessons can really expand my ability to play.

In the time I have been studying with Tim, I have done more than I thought I ever could. I went from a frustrated beginner guitar player to having enough confidence to play on stage with some of Tim’s other students and I am now looking forward to what I will be able to do on the guitar instead of being frustrated with what I can’t do.

Tim is a talented and passionate musician as well as a knowledgeable and very relatable instructor which is a rare combination and he's also a really great guy and any student of any age or ability will benefit from studying with him."

5 Blues Guitar Secrets That Will Make You a Better Player

Learning how to play blues guitar? Pay extra attention to these five things from guitar teacher Mike B.... 1. In Tune Bends The blues guitar style is full of bending strings. Bends, as well as hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides, give guitarists the ability to imitate the way singers use various inflections while singing melodies. However, unlike hammers-ons and slides, bends are not guaranteed to be in tune. Since there is nothing worse than an out-of-tune bend in the climax of a great solo …
