About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott. I usually perform using a one-man band setup I created. I modified guitar and made foot pedals to control a drum set, while singing. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer.

I offer Intermediate and Advanced Guitar Lessons for electric, acoustic, and bass guitar. I have over 20 years playing and songwriting experience, including live shows, recordings, and tours; I've been lead guitarist for the metal band Locusta since 2006. I've been teaching guitar for 14 years and have had thousands of hours of teaching experience in that time.
Lessons are available on advanced topics such as music theory, songwriting, lead guitar technique, sweep picking, and classical guitar (i.e. Bach/Spanish guitar), as well as non-guitar specific subjects like home and studio recording, ear training, rhythm, and drum programming (no drum experience necessary). Personalized lessons are offered as well as structured 4 to 8 week courses on specific subjects.
I mainly specialize in rock and metal but enjoy listening to and teaching classical, jazz, (old)country, blues, funk, or almost any other kind of music. I play in a death metal band and my favorite guitar players range ...

A few quick things about me:
• Have been teaching for 16 years
• Am a professional studio musician
• Have played in several touring bands
• Play/teach nearly all genres
• Took 12 years of lessons from a master
• Love teaching all ages and genres
Enough about me! We all know that everyone learns differently and has different strengths and weaknesses. My process is to analyze each student's unique abilities and to create a personalized learning experience for everyone. I have taught people from 5 to 83. I believe it is important to be empathetic to each person's needs, for example, I have experience teaching left-handed people, kids with Cerebral Palsy, Asperger's syndrome, people with missing fingers and other difficulties. Parents always ask me how I can be so patient with their kids, (the real secret is that I don't have to take them home ;) but on a serious note, I always remember the extreme amount of frustrating hours I put in before I got any real results. It's the least

He is personable, professional, and most of all, an excellent teacher."

I learned music theory, jazz standards, improvisation, fingerstyle techniques, how to play and sing at the same time, and how to write and record my own songs. He inspired me to take on piano as a second instrument, initially through him but eventually through classically trained instructor.
What started as basic guitar lessons for a potential hobby turned into my tiny apartment becoming cluttered with musical instruments and audio recording equipment. For this I only have Eric to thank."

After struggling to teach myself to play the guitar, I realized that I had hit a wall in my self-instructed learning and I needed to find a guitar teacher. I found Phil through word of mouth - and I have made great progress under his tutelage.
If you want to learn to play the guitar, Phil is the teacher you want - if you just want to learn to play songs, well, there’s YouTube."

In the time I have been studying with Tim, I have done more than I thought I ever could. I went from a frustrated beginner guitar player to having enough confidence to play on stage with some of Tim’s other students and I am now looking forward to what I will be able to do on the guitar instead of being frustrated with what I can’t do.
Tim is a talented and passionate musician as well as a knowledgeable and very relatable instructor which is a rare combination and he's also a really great guy and any student of any age or ability will benefit from studying with him."

Learning how to play blues guitar? Pay extra attention to these five things from guitar teacher Mike B.... 1. In Tune Bends The blues guitar style is full of bending strings. Bends, as well as hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides, give guitarists the ability to imitate the way singers use various inflections while singing melodies. However, unlike hammers-ons and slides, bends are not guaranteed to be in tune. Since there is nothing worse than an out-of-tune bend in the climax of a great solo …
