Want to learn bluegrass, old-time, or Irish fiddling? With 18 years playing fiddle and 10 years teaching, I have the experience to help a beginner gain basic skills or an advanced student analyze bowing patterns, moving double stops, and more. From the student who is picking up the fiddle for the first time to the fiddler who’s been playing their whole life, I hope to inspire a love for traditional fiddle music and culture.
About Cody
I was first inspired to play the fiddle by my grandfather, Tom Smith. Many of my cousins started learning traditional instruments around the same time and we had a lot of fun jamming at family gatherings and at music festivals in our home state of Indiana. In 2015 I was proud to carry the family tr

Here are the cons: even at 75 minutes a week the time just flies by too fast, I don’t want the fun to stop. I look forward to my lesson every week.

I've been playing since I was a child and have a special place in my heart for the is instrument. I actually began learning from a fiddle player and trained classically later. Orange Blossom, Mississippi Sawyer and Devil's Dream are a few of the basic fiddle songs I like to teach. The key to Fiddling is being able to play in tune and fast with a few basic rhythm patterns. I teach theory, scales, rhythm, pattern recognition, how to work with a metronome from slow to fast, proper bow grip and placement as well as proper posture for the violin.

A musician playing folk, bluegrass or country, for example, would most likely refer to their instrument as a fiddle; those who play other genres (jazz, classical, etc.) typically call theirs a violin. …
