I had a great first lesson with Mel! He was very enthusiastic and encouraging. I appreciate how willing he is to work with me towards my goals, which are pretty specific. I look forward to continuing to work with him on fiddle and ear training!

Mel is fantastic! I have only been taking lessons with him for a short time, but I feel like I have really made a lot of improvement! He is extremely patient and really cares about music. You can truly tell he puts his all into his lessons and truly cares about his students. Music is his passion and his optimism and love for music is contagious.

I decided to learn the violin and had no experience or background at all. Mel helped me start off with the essentials and is making sure I know proper form! I am beyond grateful that I found him and recommend him to anyone looking to learn. I promise you won’t regret hiring him to help you along your musical journey. I am most definitely looking forward to all my future lessons! Thank you Mel!

I have been taking lessons with Mel for almost two months.
As an adult learner who tried to learn violin on my own for the last six months I have found Mel to be a lifesaver.
He has been very patient and has helped me to fix all the bad habits I developed. The lessons are a nice mix of theory, skill development and working on fun songs.
I highly recommend him.

What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle?
According to the age old joke, "a fiddle is fun to listen to!"

While there's really no difference in instrument, only in style, and with no disrespect meant to Classical violin, my other passion, if you're looking to loosen up and have fun playing along with others by ear, then fiddle may be for you!

Though my specialty is Celtic music, particularly Irish, I can help you learn the basics of any style of fiddle music that catches your interest, including Old time/ American, Bluegrass, Scottish, and more! Lessons are focused on learning songs by ear and building a solid foundation in basic instrument skills that will allow you to play with ease and style with a focus on what -you- want to learn!

About Cieran

I love music, and I love helping other people find and develop their love for music! I teach all styles of violin (including fiddle) and piano to ages 4 and up, with a strong emphasis on finding what kind of music each student enjoys and building a life-long love of music with solid technical founda

Cieran is a great teacher. I am an adult student who studied some as a child. So he assessed my skill level and took it from there. I feel we are going at my own speed, and it is very enjoyable for me. Cieran is highly qualified to teach and is very pleasant to work with.

Have you been playing for a long time, or have you never picked up the instrument before? Whether you are a child or an adult, I have a style of teaching for you. I've been playing since I was a child and have a special place in my heart for the is instrument. I actually began learning from a fiddle player and trained classically later. If you want to learn how to succeed in playing this exciting and thrilling style, this is the place for you.

About Kimberly

I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and

Orange Blossom, Mississippi Sawyer and Devil's Dream are a few of the basic fiddle songs I like to teach. The key to Fiddling is being able to play in tune and fast with a few basic rhythm patterns. I teach theory, scales, rhythm, pattern recognition, how to work with a metronome from slow to fast, proper bow grip and placement as well as proper posture for the violin.

About Erin

My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for church

"After years of music classes taken in school, i have really struggled to grasp the concept of learning instruments and the basic fundamentals of music. Currently a college student with a busy schedule, Cody has really changed me from a person who always wanted to play the fiddle to actually accomplishing my goals of playing songs and understanding theory and the instrument more. I would 100% recommend anyone who wants to learn to play the fiddle to reach out and give it a shot. Cody is a phenomenal musician that can play tunes that will make your jaw drop. You will learn from the best teacher who is very kind and considerate of being a beginner and helping you accomplish your goals!"

"My son (almost 7-years-old) just finished his first lesson with Margaret. She was able to explain things in a way that he understands. He was able to get a good idea of how to hold his fiddle and bow...which is a hard skill to teach online. He is very shy, but was comfortable with having me sit next to him. After the lesson, he told me, “That was worth every minute!” He loved it."

What's the Difference Between the Violin and Fiddle?

Is that a fiddle... or a violin? It's a common question, and one that baffles many beginner musicians. So what's the answer? When it comes to the actual instrument, there actually aren't any differences. What distinguishes a violin from a fiddle is what kind of music you're playing with it. A musician playing folk, bluegrass or country, for example, would most likely refer to their instrument as a fiddle; those who play other genres (jazz, classical, etc.) typically call theirs a violin. …
