About Andrew
If you want to learn what they teach in the guitar program (GIT) at Musicians Institute here in Hollywood, but don't want to spend $30k on tuition and living expenses to do it... Or, if you are planning to attend GIT yourself and want to get way ahead of the curve early, so you too can graduate with top honors... Schedule some lessons with me, at a fraction of the GIT price-tag!

Beginning, intermediate and advanced guitar players will all benefit greatly from the vast wealth of guitar- and music-related information and experience that I have to offer (no brag, just fact).

My influences include, but are by no means limited to: Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Sting, The Cure, Duran Duran, Prince, Lady Gaga, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Miles Davis, Christina Aguilera, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Béla Bartók, Igor Stravinsky...and nearly
everyone else making interesting music in the world.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a GIT graduate and will teach you everything they teach at Musicians Institute, one-on-one. Whether you want to learn scales, arpeggios, chords, music theory, harmony, arranging, reading music, writing music, ear training, rhythm guitar styles (rock, pop, jazz, funk), soloing techniques (rock, metal, pop, fusion), songwriting (on acoustic and electric), live performance (pre-show preparedness, eliminating stage fright, developing a professional stage presence), using fx pedals, ideal amplifier settings, finding your signature guitar tone, music production (recording, mixing and mastering), music business (creating your press kit, marketing your music, negotiating payments and contracts)...you name it, I've studied it and will teach it to you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
When I'm not touring and doing sessions, I spend the majority of my time in Hollywood, where I keep a small but full-featured music studio on a nice, quiet little street just off Hollywood Blvd. It's great because it contains all of the necessary items I need to maintain my skills, improve my abilities, and expand my knowledge (sofa, chair, office desk/chair, several amplifiers, guitars, fx pedals, metronome, etc). And in terms of the lessons I teach, while there isn't an on-site waiting area, there are several shops, restaurants and a small Fresh & Easy grocer with a nice, quiet alfresco seating area just a block or so away. What's more, the Hollywood & Highland mall is only a few blocks away. Parking is very convenient in the LA Fitness subterranean garage, the entrance to which is located on North Sycamore Ave. The fee for parking is free for one hour, with easy, no-hassle validation from Fresh & Easy. Note: street parking is permit-only and you will be ticketed...so DO NOT park on the street!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please bring your instrument, a notebook, pencil, and, if you would like to record your lessons to have and review afterward, a pocket-size recording device. I will typically record moments when a student performs an example of something s/he has been working on, or an improvisation regarding the same. I do this strictly for the purpose of (a) having an example to which to compare and measure the student's progress and improvement over time, and/or (b) to capture a 'magical moment' of musical inspiration that might prove useful to the student's artistic/musical development, etc. At the student's request, I will provide a copy of said recordings (if any) on a CD. All such recordings are kept 100% confidential, are not distributed nor disseminated for any reason whatsoever, and are deleted at such time that the student discontinues his/her lessons with me.

*** Specialties ***
I am a very style-flexible musician and guitarist. Some really great books I've used in my own studies and lessons include: Pepe Romero's 'Guitar Style and Technique,' Ted Greene's 'Chord Chemistry,' George Russell's 'The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization for Improvisation,' Peter Magadini's 'Polyrhythms,' et al.

Recently started taking lessons again, and Eric has been great so far. He is everything a guitar teacher should be...he tailors his teaching to help you reach what personal goals you want to achieve. He is also very supportive, and his feedback is always of the encouraging type. His knowledge of guitar, music, and theory is outstanding which helps him teach it to you at whatever level you feel comfortable at. Highly recommended.

We will study the great blues guitarists in order to absorb the most from their playing. I will teach you various approaches and techniques as well as exercises that will help you improve. I will also provide backing tracks, pdf and printed material as well as some suggested listening.

About Jose
Hello there, my name is Jose Valdez and I am a guitar player finishing my Masters in Jazz Performance from the University of North Texas. I am a versatile musician that can play several styles like pop, rock, reggae, funk, latin music, jazz, folk etc. I am Peruvian and have lived in brasil for 2 years so I know a lot of brazilian and south american rhythms. I am very passionate about music and teaching and really enjoy giving lessons to people that are fond in learning. I have lots of resources for teaching like books, pdfs, backing tracks etc. I have a lot of experience playing live and a lot of experience as a teacher. I like to combine those two when teaching, bringing the most of the real world playing with all of the pedagogical resources and knowledge I have to the table.

My teaching philosophy is simple; teach the student music
he/she loves and feels passionate about as a priority and compliment his learning experience with different resources while studying different aspects of music theory, harmony, melody as well as listening a lot to the music to understand all of the nuances and small details.

My teaching approach revolves around getting new students to make music as soon as possible, even with the most basic skills, to build confidence and ensure a continued interest in learning. I emphasize the internalization of the physical aspects of playing through repetition and progressive exercises customized to the individual.

Practicing very slowly, learning to use a metronome, shorter but more frequent practice sessions, and plenty time f
or free play, are some of the concepts at the core of my teaching style. My strong communication skills are used to dispel any mystery in the instrument, how it works, and making music with it. No matter the skill level of the student, there is always something new to learn or a new way to approach the instrument. I have extensive experience with music production technology including equipment, DAW software, and recording techniques, incorporating these into your lessons if you're interested. I am also versed in synthesizers and sound design.

My lessons are always customized towards the individual, but stress the ability to make music even with very little technique. Building on simple riffs, easy chord changes, and practicing slowly to instill confidence and keep students interested. I often incorporate popular Beatles or Taylor Swift songs to teach chord changes and song form. Working on reading music for piano students and tablature for guitar as well as lead sheets for both. I can also show you how to interpret "cheat sheets," those lyrics with the chords above them that you get from the internet, that are always a little bit wrong.

Having finally reached a place where technique is no longer a hurdle to making music is a reward equal to the amount of time and effort that was required to reach this level of proficiency. I find great joy in showing people of all ages that music can be life-enriching, expanding one’s appreciation of the arts, providing opportunities for new friendships, and creating a sense of accomplishment with every new song learned or skill acquired on a musical instrument.

I believe that learning music should be as fun and inspiring as it can be to play. We all have a vast wellspring of creative energy within us, and the goal of the relationship between the student and the teacher is to help nurture and develop that latent talent. For this reason, my approach to teaching music is highly individualized. I start out with the premise that the student has unique gifts and my job is to help them discover what those are, and develop and refine them in order to make beautiful and deeply satisfying music, through whatever instrument and in whatever style they are drawn towards.

Depending on one's starting level of experience, some basic exercises will be assigned to develop core skills, with increasing levels of technical challenge and complexity. Elements of music theory will be woven into practical lessons. Students will have the choice to incorporate material from popular and familiar music into their studies, and as they progress they will be encouraged to

About Sean
I began teaching acoustic guitar and voice lessons in 1984, also offering harmonium and tabla lessons a few years later. Some of my students have approached music mainly for personal enjoyment and deepening their self-identity, while others have used the skills they learned in their careers.

I've found that in order to be a successful teacher, I must be patient and compassionate, and try to always put myself in the shoes of a learner. I feel my greatest teaching strengths come from listening to my students, as well as drawing from my experience as a singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist.

I'm grateful for my exposure to the music of different cultures, especially the fascinating polyrhythms of traditional African drumming and the deeply moving melodies of Indian Classical music. I had the good fortune to study these disciplines int
ensively with Master Teachers during my time at Dartmouth College, at Wesleyan University, and through independent studies in India. My teacher training at Pacific Oaks College further deepened my appreciation of cultural diversity as well as my sensitivity to different learning styles.

This experience has enriched my own compositions, as well as my ability to connect with learners from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to help guide people in developing a personal style free from artificial boundaries of genre.

Currently, I'm working on recording an album of original songs based on the poetry of Rumi, Hafiz and other mystics.

I work hard to personalize each lesson to the individual learning style of my students and encourage their passion for music.

About Rees
I am a professional multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and producer. I graduated from USC Thornton School of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance, specifically within Popular Music. Students can expect their lessons to be highly personalized based on their interests and learning styles. Having operated in so many facets musically, I know how much depth is involved in being a complete musician and I encourage my students to be lifelong music lovers. I've performed alongside wide ranging acts such as John Fogerty, Glenn Frey, The Beach Boys, X-Ambassadors, and Diplo, and I've been mentored by greats such as Patrice Rushen and Glen Ballard. Excellent customer service! I truly enjoy working with people who are looking to take up this wonderful instrument. Also the remote lessons are unique. My students get a combination of real-time coaching and personal customized video lessons. the interaction between myself and my customers, especially beginners. Those lessons are the high point of my week.
