Everyone can play the blues because everyone has felt them. My goal is to give you a new voice on an amazing instrument and explore the history of blues through its great players
Expressing yourself is the ultimate goal of music and my job is to help you get your point across!
Like any musician, music is my life. I love to soak it in any way I can! Whether it be listening to records, jamming with my friends or watching all the live concert footage of Stevie Ray Vaughan I can get my hands on.
I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor’s of Art in Music with a concentration on guitar performance. Throughout my undergraduate studies I performed in various ensembles within the college’s curriculum. Currently, my solo project gives me the opportunity to continue to grow through writing and performing my own original pieces. Throughout my career I have had the honor of performing with renowned songwriters Todd Rundgren and Charlie Sexton as well as being mentored by jazz drummer Frank Donaldson of
The Ramsey Lewis Quartet.
*** Lesson Details ***
Studying at the college level taught me a lot about what not to do as a teacher. The material is already difficult enough, so why would I be difficult with you?
I strive to be more of a mentor and friend rather than taskmaster. However, I do require structure and commitment to getting better. My curriculum will revolve around you and your needs with added material that I feel will help you succeed.
A typical lesson plan includes:
chord and scale knowledge,
and tying all of these ideas together by learning a song in a genre you love!
All of these concepts culminate in the discovery of your own personal voice!
*** Studio Equipment *** My teaching studio is just steps away from the Belmont Blue Line stop! Our lessons will be held in a private practice space in my home. The large room has multiple amps and guitars, so there is no need to bring an instrument for lessons if you don't want to! (But, you do need an instrument to practice with outside of our lessons!)

Extremely knowledgeable, has a strong music background, accomplished guitarist, understands people learn in different ways, always well prepared to teach and willing to help guide you through your musical journey.
Blues chords, rhythms, scales, licks, bends, slides, pull-offs, hammer-ons, bottleneck slide tunings and basic licks
I play and teach Guitar (Electric/Acoustic), Bass (Electric/Upright), 5-String Banjo (Bluegrass and Old-timey), Violin/Fiddle, Mandolin, Dobro, Pedal Steel Guitar and Lap Steel Guitar, Ukulele, Piano and Piano Accordion. I have been teaching in the Pittsburgh area for over 20 years and owned my music studio/store for over 10 years. I have instructional book/cd(s) and instruments for purchase or rentals usually available on-site. I am experienced and friendly. Parking lot is free and off-street.
One of the most versatile styles of guitar and one of the most fun styles to teach as there are near endless ways to play.
Things that I focus on start out with simple chord knowledge including voicing and progressions, and simple scale work. If the student is interested, I usually move into the more complex variety of mixing different scales and chords for a more colorful sound.
Heavy emphasis on improvisation at all levels.
My name is Christian L. and I am a 28 year old guitar/music instructor in the Orlando area. My interest in guitar began when I was 12 years old and blossomed into a full time obsession about 3 years later when I started playing small gigs as a solo guitarist playing simple jazz and classical pieces for small art clubs and events. Alongside gigging, I also began teaching guitar, ear training, and music theory when I turned 18 and have been teaching full time ever since. During that time I also spent 4 years in music school for classical guitar. Currently I spend my time teaching, recording, and performing various styles including rock, jazz, pop, hip-hop, musical theater, metal, and country.
Throughout the 8 years I have been an instructor I believe I have refined my teaching style to be as versatile as possible to accommodate any learn
ing style a student may have. I am capable of teaching all styles of guitar at any skill level with an emphasis on ear training and general knowledge of guitar techniques.
Slight disclaimer in regards to lesson length, price, and student interest:
Over the past year or so I have tried a new teaching structure that I find to be quite rewarding for myself and the students I have had. My lessons do not have a maximum time limit, meaning a lesson could go for 2 hours, if that is what the student wanted, for the same price as a 45 min lesson.
This may sound strange in that I would be losing out on a large amount of potential money but the simple answer is this: I love music and guitar as well as teaching music and guitar. If we are in the middle of a great topic that you, the student, is really interested in, there is no way that I am simply going to stop talking about it when the "timer" stops and there is no way I am going to charge you more for getting into a topic you want to learn.
I find that students who spend more time in the lessons tend to become more interested in guitar and thus, better at playing. I do have to instill a minimum time limit of 45 mins however, any less is honestly just not enough time to get anything worth while accomplished.
One last thing, music and guitar have made up the majority of my daily routine for the past 10 or so years and have literally paid for everything that I currently own as I have never had any other type of job. What this means is that I take the craft very seriously and I project that in the lessons. Basically, if you are genuinely interested in learning guitar and music at any skill level, I will show you everything I possibly can to let you meet your goals. However, if you do not take it seriously, as in you don't pick up or even think about the guitar except for lesson days, the lessons may quickly feel pointless.
For more information on what I teach, feel free to look into the category entitled "Guitar" as well as any of the other subcategories that you are interested in.
Christian was beyond what I have expected and look forward to our next sessions ...great teacher and took time to show and explain the correct way of playing

Lessons with Christian have been very informative and fun. He is not only a talented player, but knowledgeable regarding music theory. Most importantly, he has the ability to teach and communicate concepts and and content in practical ways that are beneficial to the student.
He has been proactive, supportive and will go beyond time constraint in order to take advantage of the moment and accomplish the goal of each lesson.
So far, a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

Wow wow wow. I had my first lesson with Christian, and he absolutely blew me away. Super talented musician. He has such a wealth of knowledge of the fretboard, musical theory, and different genres. I am into prog rock/metal and blues. I’ve never taken lessons before, and do not know scales or many chords, and christian identified exactly where to start off. He broke it down to a science and completely demystified the guitar. In small bite sized chunks we went for over two hours. It was a proper class with 1 on 1 personal attention. He is approachable with any question, and helps you understand the WHY of things, not just how to do something, which gives you such a stronger foundation to build off. I cannot wait for the next session.
Learn to shine through the blues. you can expect to learn blues scales, blues progressions, and ALL the building blocks that dictate today's music by studying some of the best blues musicians history has to offer.

My son is almost 9 and has been playing for about 2 years. His last teacher provided a solid foundation but Justin has taken lessons to the next level. He sets reasonable expectations but my son is more excited to practice every day because he feels challenged. So far so good. I would highly recommend.

Touring guitarist, experienced composer for film/media, and professional music instructor for the past 8 years! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from McNally Smith College of Music with two bachelor's degrees; Guitar Performance and Instrumental Composition. I have taught students of literally all ages (4-76) and most specialize in guitar, music theory, and composition. I also teach beginner to intermediate piano lessons! Originally a self-taught guitarist, I know the struggles of learning or continuing to better oneself on an instrument. I guarantee you that I will work hard and patiently with you to help you reach your musical goals!

Fourth lesson in with Ethan and absolutely love it! I was recommended by a friend to try him out and don't regret it one bit! I wanted to learn more about music theory and how I can pair it effectively with my guitar playing and composing.

Ethan's personality and teaching approach has made the last 3 months of learning guitar very enjoyable and inspiring! His playing and compositions amazed me from the very first lesson. His teaching environment is very beautiful and professional (he lives in an artist loft) I've recommended him to friends who've started taking lessons with him as well! :)
Acoustic or electric, guitar or bass, beginner and beyond! I am a full-time singer-songwriter who has been playing guitar since 2002.
The best part that my students love is that I am left-handed- when I am showing them something on the guitar, it is like a mirror image for a right handed student, making it very easy to follow along with the exercise!
My lessons are custom tailored to my students according to what they are interested in working on. These lessons are done online, so no travel is involved.
All styles and age groups are taught!

After very poor experiences at School Of Rock and Bach To Rock, which emphasized the depletion of my wallet as opposed to actually teaching my son guitar, I went online to search for a Guitar Teacher in my area. Several instructors came up on my radar. but something about James' profile intrigued me and I gave him a call. Instantly, I knew he was the right choice. From his buoyant and effervescent personality, to his savvy curriculum that combines both theory and learning to play songs that appeals to the student's musical interests, James possesses a unique quality that other instructors in the industry should emulate. Every week, my son really looks forward to having his lesson with James, and so do I, since he brings a positive energy into the house that's infectious. My son has progressed where not only can he read music and charts, but also has an arsenal of songs that he can play. In fact, every song my son has requested, no matter how complex, James has been able to teach him efficiently and effectively. Without reservation, I can easily recommend James as a reliable, fun and great guitar instructor.

I took lessons with James for about 18 months. Simply put, James is awesome. He is an awesome guitar player, and a fantastic teacher. I started out a total novice at the time of our first lesson. I could barely switch chords in the beginning. When I look back on what he tought me, I totally appreciate the importance of an actual teacher vs self teaching through videos and articles etc. A teacher is totally necessary and James' lessons covered all styles of music, music theory, improvising, and all done on both acoustic and electric guitars. He made learning the guitar easy and fun, which is always what he emphasized - learning should be fun and enjoyable. At the end of the day it is up to the guitar student to practice practice and practice some more - and with that discipline combined with James' instruction and coaching, you will be set up for success.
My name's Alex Ivanov, I'm a 24 year old guitarist and alumni of Berklee College of Music. I've been a guitar instructor for 6 years, who's taught students in Boston and Orlando. I'm proficient with styles, ranging from Rock, Blues, Classical, Pop, Metal, Jazz, Rockabilly, Country, Latin and Reggae.
I teach Beginner level students to Advanced, and everything in between. For Beginners, I maintain a fun and manageable curriculum of easy and quick to learn songs! The goal is to not only learn music note for note, but to understand the function of these notes and how they relate to chords and scales!
My name's Alex Ivanov, I'm a 24 year old lead guitarist and alumni at Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Business.
At the age of 9, I picked up the electric guitar and haven't put it down since. Following in my parent's footsteps, I began my professional musician career that same year, performing live shows at venues all over the central Florida region. I've strived to tackle all different genres of music, and search for any outlet where he can play.
With my current band, I play guitar driven hard rock and blues with an emphasis on guitar driven! When attending school I played in jazz combos, Brazilian guitar ensembles, Pop and top 40 bands, and at home I play Bach and Mozart sonatas for fun! I love music and one can always find me with a guitar in hand, looking for new sounds, and new ways of understanding the instrument!
"Extremely happy with Paul through three lessons. My son needed some help with a few songs for an upcoming performance, and Paul has been helping him maste
r those songs. Paul is very knowledgeable and patient, and my son loves learning and jamming with him. Highly recommended!"
"Enjoying my Guitar Lessons with Mark. My strumming and rhythm has improved dramatically after just a couple lessons. Mark is a patient instructor and I
am looking forward to my next session"
"It is fun to learn basics with Richard. Looking forward to the next lesson."
"The lesson went very well. Devin was patient and answered all of my questions of which I had many. He was very thorough in teaching me hand placement and
strumming technique. I was very happy with the lesson and feel I quickly gained confidence."
"Ryan has definitely opened up my perspective with regard to learning my instrument and "hearing" tonal options for music I like to play. I'm a working Da
d with very limited time for lessons and practice, so an online learning platform has worked best for me. Ryan has been very accommodating and flexible. More than that, he's been extremely patient with my learning style. In addition to opening up my instrument for me, he's fostered a passion for learning guitar and a taste for new music that I may not have listened to/learned otherwise. I love music and because of Ryan, I've found a very heartfelt, almost tangible, passion for playing it. Ryan...thank you!!"
"Lessons with Nils have been a great experience. I've taken lessons on and off for several years and finally found an instructor that plays the music I wa
nt to learn."
"Great Vocabulary and phrasing! just what I was looking for :)"
"Amazing teacher.. super patient and happy person"
Ready to learn to play blues guitar? This lesson from guitar teacher James W. is the perfect place to start...
What is a shuffle, anyway? A shuffle is a rhythm of 8th notes played in triplets, essentially playing 3/4 time over a 4/4 beat to make the music swing.
Blues, pop, jazz, and rock musicians all use the shuffle. The blues shuffle is a fun pattern that is simple to absorb into your playing across many genres of music. Think of pop, rock, big band, and blues as being a part of the s …
