Jonathan is truly outstanding. I was fortunate enough to meet him and begin working on guitar again with him in person when he lived in Virginia. He was so helpful I have continued lessons online and I continue to feel the quality and what I'm getting out of the lessons is as good as when we were able to be in the same room. The best thing I can probably say is that I have really enjoyed learning from such an accomplished musician while never feeling intimidated or thinking, "he must think I really stink at this!" He's very supportive and will make you a better player...whatever that means to you.

I specialize in "shred guitar". That said, I love teaching students anything they want to learn. Let's make it fun and learn songs and styles you really want rather than me forcing you to learn the boring textbook stuff. I can teach you anything from songs of your favorite bands to solos, tuning, theory, etc... Lets do this! I have a teaching style that makes it easy and fun.

As a professional concert artist, I have traveled the world performing and working with great musicians. My focus has not only been on the art and craft of performance, but on pedagogy and the process of learning - which is an art in and of itself! My lessons are compactly designed and and focus on the individual capacities of the student, not only on guitar playing, but also the skills necessary to be a complete musician: rhythm, harmony, theory, technique, interpretational prowess, a well-chosen, diverse repertoire, improvisation...

Having initially studied classical guitar, I have gone on to learn many different styles on many different instruments including multiple ethnic instruments and musical systems as well as historical instruments and performance practice (lute, vihuela, baroque guitar, etc).

I also compose and am delighted when students wish to learn theory and composition techniques.

About Polivios

As a professional concert artist and composer, I have been incredibly fortunate to travel the world, giving concerts in a wide variety of musical styles alongside some truly incredible artists. I am deeply passionate about teaching and the learning process. I truly feel that making art, and especi

I offer lessons in Guitar for all levels, having 5+ years of teaching experience and 12 in music education. I've taught children from 7 years old to adults 60+ from many different backgrounds, and my lessons are always structured the same way: To serve your needs, your goals and allow you to enjoy the process of learning.

I began playing when I was 11, and I find that for any beginner, it's important to start with material that gets instant "musical" sound from the guitar. This consists on learning the chords to your favorite songs, some easy riffs or melodies, and dicovering the path you want to take on the instrument. Once you get more advanced, technical aspects like music theory and how to use it creatively take a more important role in the lessons. For advanced players, I will find your strengths and weaknesses, and we will work on maintaining those strengths while slowly improving on the weaknesses, which may be technical, theoretical or even psychological. He knows how to teach, but he taught from his iPad, iPhone, in his car. I kept asking him how to draw, and he kept showing me from his iPad. This didn't translate to a good experience. If he wants to teach, he needs to do it NOT from his car.

"David is an excellent teacher. I've been taking flamenco guitar lessons with him for about a year now and have experienced a significant improvement in terms of actual playing and rhythmic abilities and also understanding the music in general.

David is patient, he does an excellent job explaining things and goes above and beyond to make sure that you're really learning. Consistently impressed."

"I'm currently taking Flamenco guitar lessons with Ben. He's polite, kind, and straightforward. Makes me feel positive and confident throughout the lessons. I tend to ask a lot of questions but he's made sure to answer each of them with enthusiastic and insightful responses. "Great teacher!

I have been taking flamenco guitar lessons with Jaxon for a few months now. I am a beginner to flamenco, and had some technique challenges up front. He is amazing on guitar, and is able to watch my techniques and find the sticking points. It feels good to know that I'm getting it right early on, so that I don't develop bad habits. Highly recommend him."

"Actually learning guitar!

"I don't know how I got so lucky to find one of the few teachers in the area that not only enjoys playing but also teaches flamenco guitar. Mark is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, multi-talented and endlessly patient, a crucial quality for a thick-headed adult student like me. He takes his work seriously and conducts himself very professionally, but still manages to make every lesson a lot of fun. Amazingly, I am learning to play the guitar, which I never thought I could. Highly recommended.""

"My son Robert has been taking guitar lessons with Diego for over a year now. Lessons were taking place at Diego's premises until we moved back to our country. Robert totally refused to work, or even consider the possibility to work with any other teacher besides Diego. Ever since our return, Robert has been taking his weekly lessons over Skype.

Diego is professional, talented, deligent, patient, caring, well prepared, well knowledged, knows how to prepare and challenge his students and most importantly, puts his students interests first.

There are no words I can use to explain the joy my son has when he takes his lessons and when he finishes and performs one of Diego's flamenco pieces, nor can I explain his anxiety when waiting for his lesson to begin. Diego is truly a great teacher and mentor to his students and I strongly recommend him to be the guitar teacher of choice."

He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience."

"I have been taking Flamenco Guitar lessons with Raphael since I moved to New York. It has been a wonderful experience! There are a few things about him that set him apart from other teachers i have worked with:
1. He is extremely patient - but at the same time points out when you are not in compas. If you have played flamenco before you know how important it is to get that correct - and he holds you accountable to the compas which is very helpful.
2. He intermixes exercises and falsetas in a helpful way. My fear with flamenco is that I wind up with a lot of falsetas that I can't really play right. Raphael is not afraid of giving you some exercises to grind on to get your techniques and timing up to par.
3. He is well connected in the NY flamenco world so you know what is happening and can hear a lot of flamenco out in the city.

My experience has been delightful. If you are looking to learn flamenco guitar and want to sound authentic and in compas- I would recommend Raphael unreservedly. Also he is a great guy to spend time with which is always a plus!"
