About Richard

I have studied, performed and taught music for over 30 years. Accordion was my first instrument at age 7 which was a great introduction to the keyboard, melody and harmony. That was followed by guitar and other stringed instruments (Banjo, Ukulele) as well as drums. I studied with great teachers

If you are brand new to learning the banjo and would really enjoy learning the basics of strumming, chords and finger picking, then I would love to help you learn these basic principles. As your skills progress, one of the things we can do that will be fun are duets! This will help you become comfortable playing in a group whether in church, a band or a local folk jamming session!
My goal is for you to look forward to each lesson and enjoy our time together.

Rhonda probably the best teacher I have ever had! for the many years that she taught me the violin, guitar, and trombone. she was always patient especially from the time I was young all the way till I was an “adult” preparing me for concerts and solo acts. Rhonda is a master of all and if you told her that you wanted to be the best triangle player or the best trumpet player she would make it happen. If there was an instrument that she has never used that you wanted to learn she would indefinitely buy it, become a master within the week and begin to teach you. She truly is the most genuine and talented person I have ever had the pleasure to work with!

I was very pleased at the progress of my first lesson. Rhonda is very patient and goes above and beyond to make this a great experience. I am looking forward to our next lesson.
Emma
I began taking violin lessons from Rhonda at age 5 and eventually added guitar, mandolin, and an occasional vocal opportunity:) I learned so much from her over the years (approx 4) including proper technique, patience, & self discipline. I continue to be active in music & vocal performance in the community at age 18. Rhonda is a great teacher and person!

Banjo:
If country picking, blue grass, or even pop/rock is a favorite of yours then banjo is a really fun instrument to learn. As with all instruments I teach, we would start with basics and in no time the be picking and strumming away on songs you love. I also incorporate learning the notes, chords, theory, and picking, strumming, techniques and rhythms to become a well rounded musician.

This teacher misrepresented her ability to teach the C system chromatic button accordion. I don't believe that she has ever played one. I asked her before purchasing a set of classes if she knew this instrument and was competent to teach it, and she said she was.

She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.

I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.

"Glenn is a great teacher, although we've only had 3 lessons so far it's clear that he is very knowledgeable in both the instrument and the teaching technique. It's not enough to know the instrument well, you also have to be able to connect with the student and teach that knowledge. Glenn has both qualities, and I enthusiastically recommend him to anyone considering him as a teacher!"

"My son said he wanted to take banjo lessons. I asked him to look on-line to find someone in our area. He came back to me to say that he had found exactly who he wanted to teach him, and it was Aaron. I was quite skeptical that an on-line lesson could actually be productive, but I said we could try it and see. And so happy we did. Aaron is such a great teacher! He is actually able to teach on-line and teach really well. My son has made a lot of progress in playing claw hammer banjo. Aaron is completely positive and always encouraging, and my son thinks he's the greatest! I do too!"

Are Heavy Metal Banjos The Next Big Thing?

Loud, jangly, and twangy, the banjo is an instrument with a distinctive voice that immediately evokes the spirit of the American South. Long a mainstay of bluegrass music, banjos have recently been incorporated into pop music as well by bands like Mumford and Sons. And, if YouTube trends are any indication, it looks like the banjo is making another genre shift! A pack of viral videos featuring banjo covers of hard rock classics are making the rounds and proving that banjos can shred just a …
