My name is Oceana I am from Vancouver, Canada. I have been playing the fiddle for 23 years (since I was three years old). I believe that having a passion or hobby in your life especially introduced at a young age helps teach you how to reach goals, be creative, learn discipline and most importantly brings happiness! Music is a great way to express yourself and fiddling is all about fun and dancing!

I will teach you how to sing with your instrument and dance with your heart. It’s never too early or too late to start fiddlin! I teach all ages, from 3 to 103! Wether you have a classical background or you’ve never played before, or maybe you want your child to be a music prodigy, I’ll jump on your level and we will learn and have some fun together! I specialize in helping students learn practice and listening techniques that will allow you to make faster more efficient progress as well as increase your understanding of music and how you best learn to play. I teach many fiddle styles including Irish, Gypsy Jazz Old Time and Bluegrass. I specialize in Irish fiddle, which I have been playing and teaching for 25 years. I have studied in Ireland with numerous masters of the Irish fiddle such as Kevin Burke, Tommy Peoples , Martin Hayes, Matt Cranitch, Oisin Mac Diarmada and many others. I am founding member of the band Beyond The Pale and have taught at numerous camps and festivals including The O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat.
I also specialize in “Gypsy Jazz” or “ Hot Club of Paris” style jazz fiddle in the style of Stephane Grapelli and played for many years in the very popular Dallas based band The Texas Gypsies.

Experienced Music teacher of 8 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of their instrument and theory skills. I specialize in all styles. Typically, I use a variety of method books to pick from to meet the needs of the students. I also have many tools available to use during lessons.
My students have gone on to NYSSMA and on to college auditions successfully!

I've played guitar since I was only eight years old (over 20 years!) in many different bands, styles, and genres. I played in a traditional Irish ensemble when I was in college and have since picked up banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, and bodhran (Irish hand drum). I've also helped teach group violin classes in music programs in Orlando, FL and NYC. I love playing and teaching bluegrass music, it's a special challenge both for me and the students!
