Private Bluegrass Guitar Teacher

Guitar lessons with me are unique because although I am young, I am a very experienced teacher already. I started learning guitar at 10 years old. By the time I was 16 I was gigging and teaching kids in my neighborhood and any Craigslist clients I could find. At 18, I took a 1.5 year program at the Los Angeles College of Music, where I graduated with an AA in guitar performance. Since then I have worked as a professional musician, and also as a teacher /consultant with Adopt the Arts, a non profit started by Matt Sorum (drummer of Guns N Roses, Hollywood Vampires) and director Abby Berman. In my time at Adopt the Arts I have amassed over 4000 teaching hours of teaching kids ages 4-13, so I am very experienced with kids and get along with them great since. I have also been giving other private lessons to people of all ages since 2011. Qualities that make me stand out as a teacher are relatability, patience, and an ability to identify the proper pace for the student to enjoy the ...

I felt really comfortable and not at all intimidated with my first lesson. Looking forward to the next lesson.

Taught at the basic level very well. If you know nothing about music or guitar Tommy's your guy. Goes through all the simple steps at an even pace making the entire experience relaxing. From there giving you the knowledge of your scales and blues scales, teaching you how to make mini solos on the spot really helps out with the musicality of it all. 10/5

Tommy has provided music lessons to both of my children for the past 3 years. He is a very nurturing and patient teacher. Both my children enjoy having music time with Mr. Drinkard.

About Nils

Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, age 5 or 500, in my experience, with just a little bit of practice each day anyone can learn to play guitar. Maybe your goal is to simply learn to play your favorite songs or maybe you want to learn to write your own music, improvise, or perform live.

I started with Nils after self teaching through YouTube, and would consider myself about an intermediate. I hit a point in my playing where I no longer had a good idea of how to get where I wanted to go. Nils has been really helpful in giving me direction towards my goals and exploring new guitar concepts through songs. He has a wide knowledge and has encouraged me to learn multiple styles, as well as improvisation which I used to shy away from. It’s really been invaluable to have someone like Nils as a guide in your guitar journey

Nils has been working with our son for a little over the past month, and we are very happy in finding such a talented teacher. Our son has some music background, having taken some guitar instruction in the past, so Nils was pretty quick to pick up on where he is musically and right off the bat work how to adjust to his needs. His lessons are a good mix of theory and application, and we can see how they (the lessons) are progressing in terms of complexity and reach. While we, the parents, are very happy to let them work out the lessons themselves, Nils has taken great care in keeping us in the loop, and we certainly appreciate that as parents. Certainly looking forward to how these guys progress!

Nils is a great teacher. He has really advanced my music theory knowledge.

Liam was my teenage sons guitar teacher for a year, (would have been forever but he moved).. He put a love and understanding for the guitar which has now leaked into all kinds of other instruments my son likes to play. I am thankful we found Liam, he was always professional, punctual and efficient in actually teaching music. :)
Jeremy
I took lessons with Liam for about a year straight and then off and on whenever I could. During that time he gave me a very strong understanding of the fundamentals of the instrument and helped explain technical aspects I was curious about. He's easily one of the best guitar players I've ever heard, and if you want to hear for yourself I highly recommend checking out his social media. He plays just about every style I can think of off the top of my head and knows his fair share of music production as well. I went from a beginner guitar player to being able to play and figure out songs on my own after taking lessons with him. I cannot recommend him enough.

A few quick things about me:
• Have been teaching for 16 years
• Am a professional studio musician
• Have played in several touring bands
• Play/teach nearly all genres
• Took 12 years of lessons from a master
• Love teaching all ages and genres

Enough about me! We all know that everyone learns differently and has different strengths and weaknesses. My process is to analyze each student's unique abilities and to create a personalized learning experience for everyone. I have taught people from 5 to 83. I believe it is important to be empathetic to each person's needs, for example, I have experience teaching left-handed people, kids with Cerebral Palsy, Asperger's syndrome, people with missing fingers and other difficulties. Parents always ask me how I can be so patient with their kids, (the real secret is that I don't have to take them home ;) but on a serious note, I always remember the extreme amount of frustrating hours I put in before I got any real results. It's the least

7 Easy Bluegrass Songs on Guitar

Even beginners can start playing a little bluegrass guitar. Music teacher Matthew K. shares a selection of his favorite easy bluegrass guitar songs... When I first listened to bluegrass music, I knew I had to learn the guitar parts. They are very intricate and fun! The patterns weave in and out of each other, creating a sound that is unique to the genre. It can be a daunting sound for any beginner - and it may seem impossible at first - but remember, everyone has to start at the beginning …
