Alan was awesome! My son needed some last minute lessons before an upcoming concert he was performing in. Alan helped him fine tune his part and gave him the confidence he needed. My son is now excited for the concert and can't wait to show everyone his talent!

I took guitar lessons with Alan for two years. Now my sons take piano, guitar, and drum lessons with him. I would recommend him because he is patient, very knowledgeable, and is a good teacher.

About Gabriel

Most beginners I’ve encountered have no idea what they want to play or even why. my suggestion is before coming to your teacher pinpoint the what and the why. Why did you want to learn guitar? Was it a song, or a really cool sounding riff? Did you see someone play live and feel like “I could do th

David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David

David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Fairfax, VA. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 25 years he has been performing (20 of those professionally) and playin

I had to switch the lesson to in-home roughly 3 hours before the scheduled lesson. David was great and accommodating. He gave me a crash course on scales, which I didn't know anything about, and explained them so that I actually started to understand.

My first lesson with David was excellent! He is very patient and knowledgeable. I now have extremely high expectations for learning to play the guitar. I highly recommend him. He gave me a thorough explanation about how guitars are made made, the parts, we tuned the guitar and I am ready to groove!

I have taken guitar lessons in the past and wanted to revisit one of my passions again. I decided to take lessons with Ian since he is in my neighborhood and I’m really glad I did. Ian has been very patient and attentive to my learning style. As our lessons have progressed so has the direction of each class. It’s really cool to see how all the concepts we have gone over build on each other. I feel like Ian really goes above and beyond to learn about his students and what they are hoping to achieve. Ian has also been very flexible with my work schedule. After several months of lessons with Ian I can say I’ve learned several things from finger picking, timing, and reading notes. I can’t wait to continue my journey!

I wish I could leave a review on his teaching but unfortunately, I couldn't even experience his teaching prowess. I gifted 5 in-home guitar lessons to my fiance as a birthday present. After speaking to Takelesson representatives I was told that we were in Ian's in home radius. Ian did not teach my fiance because he did not find "parking", which felt like a little bit of an unreasonable answer. When my fiance asked to be taught on weekdays he declined that too and instead offered online classes. The point of in-home is flexibility and 1:1 attention and we were disappointed that we could not have that opportunity due to how unaccommodating it felt. Would like to leave feedback to both Ian and Takelessons to include these nuances as customers are often really excited only to be let down.

Ian is an incredible teacher. Very patient and professional. The way he teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. I can’t wait to learn more & more... less than a week has passed since my lesson. I already feel so comfortable with my ukulele,
All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen

I have been teaching guitar for 40 years. All age groups from 10 to 70. I can teach to read music music and play chords. I believe in a relaxed yet exciting environment while the student learns the art of music, something they will take with them for the rest of their lives.

"I've been taking guitar lessons with Kimberly since the beginning of 2011. At the time I'd had several years of lessons using a traditional method on acoustic guitar and was looking for a teacher who could help me focus on electric blues rock and move me beyond my intermediate skill level.

Kimberly has a real focus on and talent for teaching. My lessons are tailored to meet my interests. A large part of the lesson is devoted to learning her method for blues soloing--at least 5 approaches to improvisation and comping. After several years, I've come to see how these approaches interweave, complement each other and have become an intuitive part of my musical vocabulary.

Also, because I expressed an interest, part of the lesson involves sight reading, learning blues and jazz theory, developing rhythmic playing sense, and learning a few favorite solos. Kimberly has an amazing ability to tab out and teach any song you give her. Which leads to the best part--after 6 months I was invited to play with one of her ensemble classes. While I was absolutely petrified with fear at the beginning, this has turned into one of the highlights of my week every week. It is just downright fun! It's a safe and forgiving environment where you can make mistakes and learn, or try things out that might flop, or turn into something cool. Every teacher and guitar magazine article all point to the need to play with other musicians to develop your skills and this is where Kimberly Allison really delivers. I feel that I could now sit in with other musicians and contribute.

I give my highest recommendation for taking lessons with Kimberly."

"I was very impressed, satisfied and happy about my guitar lessons with Greg.
I'm German and booked just 5 lessons due to travel reasons. There was very vage input from me to Greg when we started (I always play the same; want to get new ideas; ...). Greg did not just provide a regular standard lesson. He focused and addressed 100%+ my desires and needs. Greg provided me very conrete and great input in several aspects to what I can do to improve my guitar playing. This was very useful to me and enabled me to move my guitar play forward. I highly recommend Greg to anybody."

"I am a 64 year old woman who wanted to learn to play electric guitar blues lead. I have worked with musicians who teach and have been very disappointed. As soon as I read Chris' profile, I knew he would be a good teacher. I am a professional tutor and I could tell by the way Chris wrote about teaching that he would be skilled. I was absolutely accurate. Chris knows a lot about music and guitar playing, and he is also thoughtful and very present to the student. He is flexible and can move with a student who needs that. He also can work from a theory based place if the student needs that. To help me, he has written tab guitar licks for me, recorded Mp3 examples, and chord diagrams. I cannot speak highly enough about Chris as a teacher and highly recommend him."

"Ryan was great! He's obviously a talented guitarist and he is very laid back and makes you feel comfortable. He shows you in detail what you need to do to become a better guitar player. My ONLY advice, and the reason he doesn't get 5 stars, is I think he should have more visual aids with his lessons. For example, write down the different scales or transcribe the first several measures of a song. Then, one has something to refer back to when you are practicing and invariably get stuck. Other than that, I would highly recommend Ryan as a guitar teacher!"

"I've been playing guitar on and off (mostly off) for the past 15 years. I came to Daniel to learn music theory, improve my rhythm, and learn the skills I need to confidently show up to a jam session with other musicians. In just a few lessons, I've significantly improved in each of those areas at Daniel's instruction. He REALLY knows his stuff and quickly hones in on your strengths/weaknesses and has great advice for how to improve on your weaknesses.

If you are looking for a guy that can teach you the basics of how to play an instrument, or someone that can take you from just learning songs online to being able to create your own songs and jam with other musicians, Daniel is your guy."

Tricks For Differentiating The Two Blues Chord Progressions

Ready to get started with learning blues chord progressions? Here's an intro by Austin, TX guitar teacher Samuel B...   In order to properly respect and understand both the theory and structure of ANY kind of American music, it's essential to be able to play the blues. Although the form is said (by some scholars) to have originated in Africa within the story-telling traditions of village griots (historians/poets/musicians who would play a five-stringed instrument known as the halam, which …
