Experienced teacher of nearly 5 years; all ages welcome! I adapt my teaching style to each student but generally focus on songs rather than strictly technical exercises. I use songs as examples of theory and technique, allowing them to be short-term goals while still developing fundamentals. I also strongly encourage self expression- improvisation, songwriting and recording are some of my favorite subjects to teach. Everyone had an inner artist; let me help you find yours!

About Stephen

I am an Athens GA based classically trained pianist and guitarist. Music has been my passion since a young age - I got started on piano at the age of 7 and discovered my love of guitar in middle school. "There's guitar teachers and then there's William! Being a classical guitar player himself, he is meticulous and precise when it comes to his instruction. He is exceptional in teaching students how to play guitar the correct way. He formulates his lessons to be student specific, and keeps record of the students progress. With William, you will learn how to crawl before you learn how to run, and you will learn it the right way, and will be a better musician because of his instruction and dedication to his students, which is the backbone to his dedication to music."

"Dave is very knowledgeable and will work with you in any genre or style of music. As an older student I felt totally comfortable with Dave from the very first notes struck. I would highly recommend Dave to anyone wishing to improve their guitar skills....but dont expect to be playing like Clapton immediately!
My only issue is the long drive from Vero Beach to his studio. Something to take into consideration."

"TLDR; The guy is fantastic. He knows his stuff, he is a real performing musician, and he is a great and inspiring teacher.

Long format:

I've had a guitar sitting around my flat for about two years. The only thing I could do, other than looking at it, was playing three open chords very very very badly. And I just thought that playing music wasn't for me and that I didn't have the mind for it.

Because I am stuck at home for the quarantine, I decided to check if maybe I could do something productive with my time and decided to give taking some guitar lessons a try.

Doing research online for someone willing to teach me remotely, I found Nick, and I am thrilled I did.

We have now had only about 6-7 lessons, but he has ignited in me a passion for learning the guitar and also made me believe I can.

He has a style that will accommodate and inspire any sort of student.

In my case, I want to learn the blues. But because I knew nothing about guitar playing, I need someone that can take me through the basics in a structured way where things build on each other. Nick did just that.

The guy is a proper performing musician with a great personality and loads of experience under his belt.

I have been inspired and made confident by his way of teaching, and I want to study with him for years to come."

"I chose to take up the guitar later in life (after retirement). I did not read music nor did I feel that I had any rhythm. William was extremely patient with me and brought me to levels that far exceeded my expectations. William has a rare ability to be able to put a person at ease and reduce their tension level. Sometimes it was through playing and sometimes through playing. He was able to read my apprehension level very well and seemed to always choose the correct method. I moved away from the area and thus far have not found a guitar teacher with the same abilities. Regardless of age or ability, I would recommend William to anyone. Were it not so expensive I would gladly fly back to Phoenix once a week to continue my lessons with William."

A Fun Blues Guitar Exercise to Get You Started

If you're familiar with blues chords and ready to start trying your hand at some riffs, this exercise from guitar teacher Samuel B. will help you get the ball rolling... As an instructor (and blues guitar afficionado), I'm keen on you developing a working knowledge of the blues.
