Having studied and performed classical voice for years, I understand and will teach the correct breathing, posture, and technical skills required. I believe the techniques and skill set required for classical singing are useful for many other styles of singing as well. A classically trained student will find that other genres come more easily as a result of their training.
About Kristen
Through my years as a musician, I have come to appreciate many different kinds of music ranging anywhere from Broadway to opera to Jazz, etc. I feel this gives me the a
I believe self confidence is extremely important as a vocalist. "Stage fright" is one of the most common things that holds us back from reaching our full potential. Singing with confidence makes you feel great, and sound even better. Sometimes it is all that's missing from a potentially amazing singer. I have helped many students overcome this road block and emerge filled with confidence and self assurance.
*** Lesson Details ***
Did you know that people can hear a smile in your voice? Smiling while singing actually produces a different sound that is pleasant to the ear. I want this experience to be fun for my students. I do, however, believe self discipline is a very important aspect of music. I will encourage students to practice regularly and come prepared to learn. I will usually request that young students bring a recording device so they can take home our lessons and practice. This also allows you to hear how you sound during lessons and reproduce(or improve) that at home.
During my lessons, we will cover topics ranging from technical skills, basic singing principles, ear training, sight-reading, to theoretical knowledge. We will also discuss voice maintenance. That said, I feel it's important to get out of the lessons what you want, so I don't have a set curriculum. I tailor each lesson to the student.
All in all, I am a patient, fun-loving teacher who will work hard to bring out the very best in all my students. I will neither push too hard nor be too lenient as we strive to reach the goals we have set together.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano and music books provided
*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide some music for the student. I would prefer that the student have access to a piano and bring a tape recorder and notebook to each lesson.
*** Specialties ***
Although I was classically trained and studied opera in college, my younger singing experience largely involved musical theatre. I have always been told I am a natural on stage. I strive to instill that confidence into my students because confidence really is half the battle. I especially love to help students prepare for auditions!

Every lesson is for YOU. The time we spend together is time for you to explore your voice, your goals, and desires within music. I specialize in beginner/intermediate singers looking to expand their voice, repertoire, and love of singing. No lesson will be the same, and every lesson will be a shared experience in which we learn how your voice works, and how it feels.
Lessons include, but are not limited too, repertoire exploration, music theory, range expansion, vocal pedagogy/vocal anatomy, performance preparation, character coaching .....and much more.
About Shelley
Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible.
As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by pr
Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana and currently applying toward my NYS teaching certification.
Within my voice studio I teach in person and online lessons. While online lessons can be beneficial for students wishing to study with me that are not in the immediate vicinity, I recommend in person lessons
I look forward to hearing your beautiful voice and helping you to embrace music. Feel free to check out my website for any further information!

Classical voice and Opera are a very unique style to sing. It takes much training and time for your voce to mature naturally. It is a beautiful art form. It is a foundational style. Understanding classical will help you to understand other styles. it will give you so many important skills, such as phrasing, breathing, form, understanding the song and character of the music and so much more. I would love to help you grow in your natural talent.
Lesson:
It is very important to feel comfortable when learning something new so that you are not afraid to fail. Getting over the fear of failing is the initial part that will free you to experiment with your voice and really grow. You will find a safe space here to do that.
In our lessons we will work on vocal agility, range, improvisation, healthy singing and healthy projection, diction, harmony, different genres and music theory.
I am so excited to get to know you and

Originating from Henderson, North Carolina, she grew up singing in school, church and choirs including the Raleigh Girls Choir of Raleigh, NC. Taking singing and piano lessons grew her love for music. She always had a fondness of jazz music starting at a young age, as her father would play jazz music. Studying music has led her to perform in recitals, concerts and festivals such as the Mozart Music Festival with The Capital City Girl’s Choir in Vienna, Austria, to study and perform abroad in Valencia, Spain, to graduate from Berklee College of Music and to continue writing, performing and growing as an artist. Leah also enjoys being involved in and performing in community events as she gives back. It is very important to her to help others as many have helped her.
She gets much of her inspiration from influences such as Jesus Christ, her parents, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, Lisa Fischer, Sammy Davis Jr., Sade, Anita O’day, India Arie, Erykah Badu, Adele, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mary Mary, Robin Thicke, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Esperanza Spalding, Miles Davis, Al Jarreau, Nancy Wilson, Ledisi, Sounds of Blackness, Take 6, Gretchen Parlato, and Quincy Jones just to name a few.

About David W.

I teach from a very technical standpoint. Form and function, physicality, and basic science can teach you a lot about singing properly. My goal is to get the student to a point where they can teach themselves when they build their voice and the lesson becomes a weekly or monthly check in of the progress. As singers we want good results, but we have to focus on the process and the result will follow on its own correctly without forcing the result we want. This process of optimal sound and beautiful tone can take some time, but when the steps are taken correctly, the results become ideal.
About David
David spent two years as a member of Minnesota Opera’s prestigious Resident Artist Program. There, he sang Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Tybalt in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and debuted the shepherd Silvio in a new production of the Lorenz

He also covered Reverend Parris in Francesca Zambello’s staging of The Crucible, performed the tenor solo from Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and played Frederic in a scene from The Pirates of Penzance for special guest Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. As a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Mr. W. covered Matthew Gurney in Tobias Picker’s Emmeline, sang a Student in La rondine, and Belmonte in scenes from Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio with the Saint Louis Symphony. He also sang Azor in Opera for the Young’s tour of Zemire et Azor by André Grétry and both Belmonte and Ernesto with Brava! Opera Theatre in Ashland, Oregon.
