I believe that anyone who can speak can learn to sing! I teach based on music theory, technique, and repertoire building. The three register method I use can be applied to any style of singing from Opera to Pop. I have an Artist Certificate in Voice, a BA in Voice Performance, and an MAT in Choral Conducting. My specialty is Vocal Pedagogy, which means that I teach students the correct way to sing to ensure a safe and healthy instrument. I have been teaching private voice for ten years, and have a proven track record of students who have gone on to be successful in achieving their goals.

About Andrea
I began singing in a local children's choir when I was ten, and haven't looked back since! I attended the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, SC where I studied Opera and Musical Theater Voice. I then went to the College of Charleston where I completed a BA in Voice Performance and an MAT in Choral Conducting. I love singing, and love teaching others to love singing as well! I teach music full time and am the Musical Theater Director at Porter Gaud in Charleston, SC. I teach voice using registers and correct technique so that my students can sing whatever style of music best suits their interests. I am an avid Vocal Pedagogist and I present at State and National level conferences in the field of healthy singing.

About Troy W.

I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected from the western classical rep based on the student's learning needs and with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

A Note From Francesca:

My official bio is listed below, but perhaps more important than the things I have done are the things that I am doing. I am now approaching my 15th year of teaching. I love to teach! I carry a minimum of 30 students, but have carried more then 80 at one time, and have never once complained. My waiting list cycles based on my performance schedule and recording schedule. If you don't see a time that works for you, feel free to reach out and see if we can find something that works, as an artist, my schedule can be quite full but also quite flexible. I love my students, I get to do what I love all day and I am sure it shows. I have a blast discovering new ways to experience music with "my kids." I call all of my students kids even though most of my studio consists of young adults. I try to have a young air in my classes at all times as it just makes the process so much more fun for everyone.

I've seen it all in through years: kids, adults, beginners and advanced students. I am personally very interested in being the most versatile musician possible and I love being able to share my knowledge with my students. We can study anything and everything from Classical Guitar to Electric Guitar Shredding; from Opera to Kelly Clarkson; from Tchaikovsky to Little Richard! I love getting students to dabble in little bits of all genres, often getting even the most skeptical student singing and playing comfortably in a matter of just a few weeks. My students will be able to read music for their favorite tunes and understand how to improvise from the start. Once you come in, you'll be hooked. You will have fun because I am having fun!

I encourage all of my students to share their favorite music with me. It affords me the opportunity to learn more about what they desire to learn and what types of music they enjoy. We will learn with your music often. After all, isn't that why you are coming to see me? I will introduce you to new sounds and styles, but will foster your love for music, and do my best to never force my music on students. I feel I learn as much from my students when I truly listen to them and their music as they do from me.

On site lessons are available for artists recording demos, rehearsing bands and setting up their own studios.

On a side note, I love seeing students at my shows! I am a full time musician and can be seen playing with my band, in my own solo project and in various choral settings. Check out my website and see what I do outside of the classroom. My students get a kick out of the idea that they can buy a CD with their teachers face on it, and to be honest, so do I. Many of my students have their own music out on iTunes and YouTube. Many more can be seen performing around town in solo projects and professional ensembles.

Francesca on Artist Development:

I feel obligated to share my joys and experiences-

Not many people have been blessed to sing alongside as many renowned musicians as I have - I've been lucky to be welcomed in both the commercial and classical worlds and they have both afforded me venues to use my voice and express the most vital corners of my soul. To find your purpose through art is one of the greatest gifts you can receive. And to be able to do that in front of thousands of music lovers live or over the airwaves is a surreal experience.

It'€™s funny, my classical cronies are impressed to hear my stories of packed rock gigs at the House Blues and national touring festivals like Warped Tour and my rock buddies ask to hear my stories of Disney Hall performances with the LA Phil. To be honest, Iâ'm impressed to be there too. Sometimes, I look around and think, how did I get here? How did I get lucky enough to live the dream, to find a home in music?

I've been luckier than most. I've had GREAT mentors who have always pushed me forward and shared their wisdom freely with me. Part of the classical musician's central goal is to educate. That'€™s a value I carry into my rock projects and production studio. Work smarter, not harder. Take the needed skills, create art, teach others how to do the same thing, move forward together to live happier, more productive lives filled with purpose.

I have come to be known as one of the top Musical Mentors & Artist Development Experts on the west coast. A behind the scenes- diva of dream building with the skills to push artists to the next level- the ace up the sleeve of many of today working talents. In my award winning studio, I spend time coaching the young voices and faces of today hottest TV shows seen on ABC, Nickelodeon, and the Disney Channel, but I still have a soft spot for up and comers in the indie music world. Having written and performed my own music for decades, I not only lived the collegiate experience of the elite classical performer singing for presidents and world leaders, but also the dingy road of the rock musician who'€™s showed one night to a packed stadium full of fans and showed up another, thousands of miles from home to play to a coffee shop of 5 people. Music has brought me to nearly every continent and introduced me to some of the most talented and diverse people you can imagine. I feel compelled to share these experiences with those around me so that they my develop the vision, the salt and the skills to persevere.

I am, above all, an artist & creator- living the dream, helping people- like you find their voice and write their songs. Turning raw emotion into art.

Each one of us has a story, our truth. Being an artist is about finding ourselves, our song and expressing it publicly so that we may heal, so that we may grow.

It doesn't take a ton of experience to write a hit song. It doesn't take a fancy education or a family line of talent (though it can help). We can all find our voice, our place in the spotlight, what it takes is the courage to take the next step forward.

You've already had the genius to be in the right place at the right time. Here. If you've made it this far, chances are you are smart enough, hungry enough and ready to take the plunge.

Inside my studio you will find the help you seek. I can impart you with proven techniques to strengthen your sound, develop your tone through strong technique, develop strategies to share your art and develop a plan to turn pipe dreams into reality. Some desire to sing on the worlds brightest stages, others strive to lead others through teaching themselves, and some wish for nothing more than to experience music in a confident manner among friends. All can be lead on this personal journey of the artistic soul and all can make their offering to the musical gods. There is a place at the table for anyone seeking an answer.

I had never had a voice instructor before and I wasn’t very confident with singing, but these sessions are really helping me work through that! Francesca is very encouraging and she creates lessons around the music that interests you! She taught me some really useful exercises to help me improve with range, pitch, etc. also, gives tools and homework to take home and practice! I’m stoked I found such a great voice instructor! Wow. I've always felt a little guilt for never picking up an instrument and I'm glad I finally fell through and contacted Francesca a couple months ago. She's amazing. There's been a few times where I've been overloaded with work, haven't practiced, or needed to reschedule and she's been incredible at finding a solution for each of these inconveniences. Francesca's Music Studio; incredible! You really get into the "zone" when you're in there and the atmosphere definitely sets that mood. As for her teaching style; I feel like she understands a persons particular "vibe" and teaches accordingly. There's been a few times where I've been high energy and she's matched that energy to where we have a great lesson; and there's also been times where I've been low energy, and she still finds a way to motivate you without over doing it and becomes a great lesson. I'm still new, but there hasn't been a time I've left thinking "I wish I never came". Not once! If you're apprehensive about taking that next step, don't hesitate and just contact Francesca. You won't regret it. Thank you Francesca for everything! See you soon

As a voice instructor with over 20 years experience in the private studio, college environment, church ministry, high school chorus master teacher, and as a free-lance performer, I understand that each student requires tools and techniques unique to their needs to grow and improve. Focusing on the basics of breath control, efficient support, and healthy vocal production, my gift of hearing and assessing each student's strengths and weaknesses allows me to create lessons catered to each singer's specific needs.

With a Master of Music in vocal performance from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, an appreciation of various styles of music, and my personal investment in each individual singer, I am able to successfully share my knowledge of the vocal instrument and my love of music with my students. I am proud of my student success rate with many singers pursuing degrees in music at the collegiate level, winning competitions, earning roles in local and community ...

About Holly
As a professional performer, teacher and master teacher with a Master's degree from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Chico, I have performed with orchestras, chambers groups and choirs throughout the United States and Europe.
Comfortable in both classical and musical theater genres, my knowledge of vocal production and the musical skills needed to succeed in music make me an excellent teacher. I pride myself in having a great ear and instinctual understanding of each student's individual instructional needs.

Before relocating to Houston, I owned and operated a successful full-time private teaching studio in the Atlanta area with voice students succeeding in All-State Chorus, the Governor's Honors Program, college auditions, local competitions, community thea
ter, and school chorus auditions. As a successful soloist and vocal instructor, I pride myself in teaching proper technique, nurturing each student's vocal development, helping singers develop a true love of music, and gaining an appreciation of their unique vocal gifts. Many of my vocalists learn the skills of reading music by learning keyboard and basic theory through piano lessons, which I am also able to teach.

With a creative and personable teaching style, I am able to connect with each student where they need to be met. My students of all ages see an immediate improvement when applying the techniques that I share with them. Focusing on healthy vocal production, good breath support, and proper techniques of support and vowel placement, I am able to help students reach their musical goals through vocal exercises and drills, direct application to selected music, and assigned home practice between lessons. After learning the basics of vocal production, we can further focus on interpretive elements of the songs and students will feel the rewards of making beautiful music with their own free and unique sound.

Having experienced playing Princess Jasmine, Mrs. Lovett, and Peter Pan (to name a few) in my musical theatre journey, I want to teach you how to do the same by getting the lead role in your next audition! There is so much to learn in how to use proper technique when singing and I am so excited to get to teach you the Do’s and Don’t’s of singing that so many people aren’t aware of! Let’s get started on your musical journey today!

About Maria
I am a professional vocalist, pianist, and guitarist.

Having played many lead roles including Princess Jasmine, Mrs. Lovett, and Peter Pan (to name a few) in my musical theatre journey, I want to teach my students how they can do the same by getting the lead role in their next audition!

Not only have I performed in lead roles, I have also lead worship at several churches, accompanying myself on the acoustic guitar and/or piano/keyboard.

I enjoy playing an array of other instruments as well including the violin, ukulele, mandolin, flute, saxophone, djembe, and whatever else I can get my hands on. (I love music!)

I have sung in Carnegie Hall, and have toured South Africa on a musical service learning opportunity with the elite choir at Mississippi College, Singers. I have performed on stage longer than I can remember, and am
the third generation of piano teachers in my family.

In my classroom (whether online or in-person), students can expect a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere in their lessons where mistakes can be had, but corrections will be made in both a respectful and caring way. I am here to encourage and correct, not to criticize.

All lessons begin with music theory training. Whether you are learning to sing, play the piano or guitar, music theory is the foundation of learning to play all music. The lesson will then go into the lesson curriculum I require for the specific instrument, and will then continue to the student’s performance pieces. Piano lessons have an added bonus at each lesson which includes a time of improvisation with the teacher!

I look forward to teaching and encouraging you along your musical journey that you are sure to love!

Maria is an amazing teacher who puts a lot of emphasis on building correct vocal technique and making sure singers are using their voice properly and not damaging their voice. She has been trained by the best teachers and has quite an extensive resume with performances in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York. As well as touring South Africa. She builds on what she has learned and shares that knowledge with her students. I highly recommend Maria!!!
