I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree at the Eastman School of Music in vocal performance and literature. I believe in empowering my students so that they can sing in all styles of music that interest them with ease and freedom. Good singing is good singing and I am comfortable teaching classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, country etc. I like to set up my students with a strong foundation for singing so that they can practice efficiently and overcome vocal obstacles without my instruction.
Hello everyone, I am Michael - I am currently in school at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY pursuing my doctoral degree in vocal performance and literature. I have sung all over the world in operas, musicals and with professional choirs. I enjoy teaching all levels of singing and love to inspire my students to reach their full potential. Singing should be fun and it can become even more exciting when the fundamentals start to fall into place. I am a casual but professional teacher and like to tailor my teaching to each one of my students. I like to make singing a very concrete and sensation based learning experience so students can rely on more than just their ears to guide themselves. Good singing is good singing, period - any genre ,any style... it all stems from the basics and setting up a strong foundation on which t
o build the voice.
American baritone Michael most recently performed the role of Lieutenant Audebert in Silent Night by Kevin Puts with Buffalo Opera in New York. Other recent credits include: Sam in Trouble in Tahiti by Leonard Bernstein at the Aspen Opera Center, Marcello in La Boheme by Puccini in San Diego, CA and Tom in Gershiwin’s, Blue Monday with Opera de Tijuana in Mexico. Michael will return to the Aspen Opera Center this summer to sing Frederick Egerman in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. Most recently on the concert stage he was the baritone soloist for the Monteverdi Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop and Haydn’s Seasons with the Eastman Philharmonia in Rochester, NY. In 2016 Michael received the second-place award in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Rossini Competition adjudicated by the famous Rossini tenor, Rockwell Blake. Michael is currently pursuing a doctorate in music performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where in 2019 will sing the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Great teacher - funny, patient and understanding. I look forward to more lessons with Michael in the future!

I started lessons with Michael having done both contemporary voice and years of choir. But prior to training with Michael, I'd never really been coached as to how to properly sing in a classical style. He's allowed me to find an entire element of my voice I didn't know I had and made it incredibly straightforward to progress. I now absolutely love singing in a way I didn't previously think I would.

Michael is knowledgeable, funny, and thoughtful. I am a wind instrumentalist, and Michael tailored voice lessons to discuss topics specifically related to my areas of experience. I would highly recommend Michael for voice lessons!
I am an experienced vocal teacher of 13 + years available for passionate students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn the style they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of breathing, posture, placement and classical fundamental skills. I specialize in musical theater, belting, classical, jazz, christian/worship and pop. I typically use specially selected sheet music and tracks, and also use a metronome and piano during the lesson.

I am an experienced musician and performer with a variety of teaching skills gained over 20 years of study and action. Lessons in my studio are about so much more than just learning to sing a song or write music. Students are instilled with business knowledge, work ethic, and confidence so that they can truly accomplish whatever they set their minds to. We go deep and focus on how to develop new mental and physical habits that can help the student better express his/herself. We work hard on a curriculum that is specifically catered to the student's needs, and of course, is fun too!
I've worked with students from ages 6-65, with varying backgrounds and interests. From complete beginners to professional performing artists. All students are guaranteed to see improvement in their technical skills within the first month of lessons. Let's do this!
Jameson is a recording artist, songwriter and producer. He is a graduate from the University of Oregon, and holds a BA in Theater Arts, Music and Business.
As a vocalist, Jameson sings regularly in a wide variety of styles. He has studied the Alexander Method, Body Mapping, Singing by Speaking Voice, and Vowel Isolation as well as the application of this technical work through text and emotion. He completed the classical vocal performance pedagogy and created an extended fusion technique for Gospel, Pop and Musical Theater singing which utilizes similar principals. As an actor, his training includes work with both the Stanislavski Method, Meisner Technique, Shakespeare and Lyric Performance, Clowning, Improvisation, Dance/Movement for actors, and exposure to Stella Adler, Uta Hagen and Lee Strasberg's work. Jameson has also writ
ten three fully produced musicals for the stage, and continues to write and produce blues and pop music.
Firstly, Jameson is not a voice teacher for money. I do not know anyone who genuinely loves music and singing more than him. Jameson's passion for performing is evident from the moment you meet him. His rates are very reasonable considering the top-notch quality of the lessons. He focuses on the fundamentals of releasing your authentic voice rather than specialized techniques to mimic other performers. He listens carefully to your thoughts and feelings throughout each lesson, adjusting accordingly. He challenges you to express how your body is working with your vocals after each try so that you are able to be aware of your voice outside of lessons as well. He ensures that the lesson is fun and fast-paced so that you can feel great strides in vocal improvement with each time.
Thanks to Jameson, my voice has been freed. I sing strongly, with control, and with passion any chance I get. The confidence Jameson has giving me in my singing voice is quite honestly, priceless.

"Jameson is incredible. During my junior year of high school I was not selected for the All State Choir and it devastated me. Jameson was a fairly new vocal teacher in the area and was so accommodating to me when I reached out. Under his guidance I was able to further my confidence as a singer and a performer. Jameson's focused optimism really drove me to push myself. I am so thankful for my time with him and I would recommend him to any student who is ready for the "next step" but isn't quite sure where to go."

"Before Jameson, I had tried out a few other vocal coaches that worked for semi large companies. These vocal coaches only focused on making each individual song sound good, but didn’t actually help me improve my voice at all. This wasn’t what I was looking for. However, my first lesson with Jameson was eye opening. I remember on the very first day he got me to come out of my shell and make my voice do things it hadn’t done before! I remember being amazed at the vocal range that Jameson helped me uncover and the different ways to help give my breath support; allowing my vocal chords to resonate smoothly and on key. Not only did he give me coaching in both pop and classical, but he gave me confidence in my voice and many opportunities to showcase what I had learned.
Other than the concerts that Jameson sets up himself, he also gave me an opportunity to try out for The Voice. This experience was one of a kind! It was a several day experience where me and a select few other people came to the Tabor Studio and worked on our songs together with multiple coaches to critique our voices so that we would improve for the following day when we actually got to professionally record the songs that we practiced to send to the voice! In addition to this, Jameson helped me place top 10 in the final for Portland Teen Idol, which hosted a few hundred singers. All in all, I regret nothing about my relationship with Jameson. If someone was looking for a vocal coach, Jameson Tabor would be the first person that I would point to."
I have been studying vocal technique for four years and will be continuing my studies at the undergraduate level. I view our voice as the most powerful tool we have. From speaking to singing, our voice is what connects us with those around us. I take a holistic, dynamic, and singer-specific approach that is well grounded in the enduring bel canto technique to enable singers to access the full palette of expressive capabilities in their individual instrument. Whether you are looking to be on Broadway, sing at the Met, improve the clarity and presence of your speaking voice, or just want to sound better in the shower, I can help you access the beauty and power within your own voice, As you learn the many tools professional vocalists use, you will be free to sing in any style at any venue with confidence, and will have a blast doing it!

I've been singing all of my life and am vocally trained with 20 years of teaching under my belt. I don't believe in 'one-size-fits-all' teaching and love creating custom exercises and activities to help you reach your singing goals. What I DO believe is that music should be fun. I'll teaching you how to sing solo, in a duet, with background tracks, or with a simple guitar or ukulele accompaniment. Let's have fun making music together!
