Recording techniques, input and output, audio theory, plug-ins, compression, EQs, multi-tracking, noise reduction, mixing/mastering... What's it all mean? What is it about? I've recorded on many formats and programs over two decades, from a pocket tape recorder, to a 4-track, to digital workstations, to PCs with everything from MIDI to USB and Firewire interfaces. I have recorded drums, guitars, bass, vocals, keyboards, pianos, harmonica, clarinet, tap dancing... just to name a few. I can show you how to get the most out of your equipment and how to master what to do effortlessly, without the dreaded "killing the vibe" once things get rolling. I can show you how to pick out the right microphones, then where to place it, rig it, and take into account sound absorption/reflections. Noise reduction, isolation, gain, equalization, and theory can be discussed. I can help you find materials and even software to create a better recording environment. I can give tips on playing live or being in a band, as well as marketing yourself. I can also tell you what apps and programs to try, or websites and videos to watch. I currently use Adobe Audition CS6 and a Focusrite Clarette 8. However, much of my knowledge and experience can be adapted to many setups. We should have a consultation session first to see what equipment you have to help determine what services and education I can provide you with.

I've been teaching Music Recording and Production for over four years. For beginners, I utilize the software Audacity on PC and GarageBand for Mac to teach the basic underpinnings of a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). We learn how to record, play with a software instrument, mix, cut, splice, copy, paste, and use basic effects for recordings and productions. For intermediate music recording and production students, I utilize Logic Pro X for Mac and Ableton Live for Mac and PC. We learn how to utilize MIDI instruments; edit and arrangement techniques, user-created key commands; automation; mixing; and creating a final mix for mastering. For all students, we also learn how to use microphones for vocal and instrument recording. We'll learn sound damping, portable vocal booth utilization, and acoustics. I'd love to help you begin your journey on music and audio engineering! I can't wait to get started.
