Fiddle is the best instrument! (Ok maybe I'm biased!)
I enjoy helping all levels and ages to learn awesome tunes while using great technique!

About Laura
Laura has taught throughout her musical career and loves nothing better than to introduce students of all ages to the magic of creating their own music! As a teacher, she focuses on balancing inspiration and explanation. Inspiration: because if you don’t love your music, what’s the point? And technique: because if it’s easy to play and sounds good, you’ll keep coming back for more!

Laura has a BA in Violin Performance and a minor in American Roots Music from Berklee School of Music, has taught privately for nine years, and plays in several bands. Laura has taken firsts in her age division at several fiddle contests, including the California and Nevada Oldtime Fiddle State Champions, Western Open Championships and top 5 in the National Oldtime Fiddle Championships.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I provide sheet music for new tunes, stick
ers, and a basic fix-it kit for common instrument issues. I also try to keep backup books and a shoulder rest around at my studios so if someone forgets their equipment we can still make good use of the lesson.

I expect the student to provide their instrument, shoulder rest/end pin stopper, notebook, device for recording music, folder/binder for loose papers, and books. I don't require lots of books - just ones you'll use!

*** Travel Equipment ***
See Studio Equipment, above.

*** Specialties ***
I love teaching oldtime, bluegrass, country and celtic fiddle - most of what I do as a performer fits in along those lines. I teach Suzuki method violin as well. My Suzuki teacher learned directly from Shinichi Suzuki!

I encourage all my students to improvise, to try different musical styles, and to experiment with composition. My goals are to share my own love for music, and enable students to discover their unique musical voice.

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. He likes to talk and demonstrate (nice and slowly if requested) so I would recommend hour-long lessons at first.

I work with students exclusively by ear, concentrating on development of rhythm and the syncopation of melody against rhythm.

About Cindy
Cindy has been making music for as long as she can remember. She was the assistant director of a synagogue children's choir by age 14 and has directed and sung with many community choirs and pickup groups since then. But it wasn't until 1996 that she discovered the autoharp and began teaching and performing in earnest. Now one of the best recognized autoharp workshop leaders in the US, she has taught and performed at festivals and private concerts from Pennsylvania to California, as well as Tasmania, Australia, England, aboard cruise ships, and an upcoming visit to Sweden. She also shares her knowledge of old-time West Virginia fiddle techniques and repertoire, and is known locally as a sympathetic and effective voice teacher for those who think they cannot sing. In addition to her teaching activities, Cindy founded and directs the Pi
ttsburgh Threshold Choir, a group of women who sing at the bedsides of people who are very ill or dying.

Lessons with Cindy are self-directed with coaching intended to help the student accomplish his or her personal objectives. She will ask you to provide examples of music that you love so much that you'd be willing to work hard to learn to play it, and you will find yourself working on that music right from the start. Technique is taught in the context of the music: if you need a technique for a particular song, you will learn that technique. And of course once you've mastered a technique it's yours to use on the next song or tune and the next. It's a constant process of enjoying the music and discovering and mastering the technique needed to recreate it in your own playing or singing.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons start with a review of the work you've been doing. We might take that song or tune to the next level with a new technique, or we might apply technique you've already learned to a new piece. Every lesson is different, customized to the needs of the student at that moment.

*** Studio Equipment ***

I recently approached Cindy for vocal coaching on songs that I perform on a regular basis with my duet. I am extremely pleased with her instruction. She was to the point, very clear and concise with her guidance. I know she improved my performance (I had a concert the very next day!). She gave me so much to think about. I really trust her approach with me. She made me feel very much at ease, which resulted in rapid-fire student/teacher give and take vocal direction. This is the way I like to learn! I loved my time with her and will certainly have another session with her soon!

Been fiddling Irish and Celtic for 2 decades now. Know tons of tunes, and can also help my students translate the notation into correct style execution in performance!

About Stephanie
I am a career musician, and conservatory trained violin, piano and vocal instructor with over 25 years teaching experience, and a resume spanning many pages. I also am a well endorsed composer. Furthermore, I LOVE teaching! I am a competition judge, member of National Music Teachers Association, and Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have proven results, as documented on my students YouTube channel. With my instruction, you will learn quickly and most importantly, correctly, saving you time and resources as you reach your musical goals. Fact: One of the only activities that activates, stimulates, and uses the entire brain is music, so let's get started!

Some people have difficulty reaching a teachers' studio. For this reason, I have perfected my ability to teach via Skype or FaceTime. It is an advantage for my students to b
e instructed by a quality teacher. It's worth a try, isn't it?

Please note: I only accept weekly lesson students. Also, due to my performances, I'm not always able to this calendar up to date....so when you request a lesson time, allow me to communicate with you, if we need to adjust it a bit. It almost always works out if you don't mind doing that.

*** Lesson Details ***
All the students on my Student YouTube channel who have studied under three years, are practicing 2 hours a week, and you will have a similar result. That's 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Students under 5 practice about 10-15 minutes a day.

Please have an assignment book that lies flat, and keep it next to your music books as you practice between lessons. My instructions are very detailed to insure your best progress.

*** Studio Equipment ***
For on-line lessons, you will need a quiet place, and please test your sound and video prior to beginning of lesson. For students under 13 or so, do have a parent or caregiver taking notes while we work together.

*** Specialties ***
I have much experience with various learning styles, and in fact, am featured in a documentary made of one of my autistic students.

It was truly a pleasure meeting Concetta for my first ever violin lesson. It is difficult to learn anything at the age 40, specially a musical instrument, but she made it comfortable and easy to understand. She's extremely patient a key quality when teaching a subject such a music to anyone. I would say, give her teaching style a try and you won't regret it. Very knowledgeable indeed.

Learn Bluegrass styles, Celtic fiddle techniques, Arabian, Chopping, and more!

About Lauren
Lauren Douglas, a native of Chicago and former resident of Vero Beach, FL, fits into just about every genre of music with her fiddle playing. Her malleability within the industry has afforded her multiple opportunities performing and recording with artists who have styles ranging from Classical to Bluegrass.

Lauren’s latest release, Reminiscent + Relevant, features an array of talent from artists Nathan Taylor, Marc Greenspon, and Maggie Chafee. The eight-track album encapsulates the soul of traditional, Old Time fiddle, while incorporating a cheeky, bluesy element. The album also includes hints of Celtic fiddle, as well as Dance from the Black Sea, an Indian-influenced tune. The tracks take listeners on a journey through time, as well as exploring the different cultural possibilities of string instruments.

Before moving to Nashville t
o pursue music performance studies at Belmont University, Lauren was concertmaster of the Vero Beach High School Orchestra for two consecutive years. She has won multiple concerto competitions within her hometown, as well as fiddle competitions. Lauren founded the classical string quartet, Seaside Strings, in her hometown, and folk/fiddle trio, Elle & the Rootabega Boys. Since living in Nashville, Lauren has had multiple opportunities to participate in local, multi-style recording sessions and performances. She has played most regularly with local Kansas-born singer-songwriter, Savanna Chestnut, and together they toured Florida last Spring to play the 2016 Strawberry Festival in Plant City. Lauren founded and hosted Jamboree, a monthly jam session for students, as well as fiddle video series, Rootabega Sessions.

Currently, Lauren is apart of a classical quintet, a multi-style wedding trio, folk/Americana band, Michelle Knopick & the Screwdrivers, World Fiddle Ensemble, the Belmont University Symphony Orchestra, and most recently, the Nashville-based Bluegrass band, Almanac Ridge. Other notable musicians Lauren has performed with include Belmont alumni, Brave Town, and Kentucky-based Irish band, Feckless Fear Dearg in 2015 and 2016. In October 2016, Michelle Knopick & the Screwdrivers played the Neewollah Festival, Kansas’ largest Fall Festival. Lauren kickstarted her solo recording career by releasing a cover of Natalie MacMaster’s Volcanic Jig in 2015, followed by Reminiscent + Relevant in 2016. She studies privately with Juilliard graduate and protégé of Dorothy Delay, Elisabeth Small, and Grammy Award-winning Tammy Rogers-King of The SteelDrivers. Lauren’s influences include Hanneke Cassel, Brittany Haas, and The Punch Brothers.

I am a fiddler and vocalist for internationally-touring and award-winning folk groups, Tullamore and Brackish Water Jamboree. In addition to my performance schedule, I am also honored to play first violin for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic. I run a thriving online teaching studio, which has been kicking since 2003, after earning my degree in violin performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. I teach traditional classical, using either Suzuki or Essential Elements, depending on your learning and self-motivational needs, and I also teach fiddle music, including Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, and alternative styles. **PLEASE CHECK MY AVAILABILITY BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR LESSONS, AS MY TIMES ARE QUITE LIMITED NOW** I look forward to meeting you! Call Take Lessons today to sign up!

About Rachel
If you are ready to take on music lessons, your life will never be the same. Music enriches our minds and lives in many ways, including expanding our expectations past what we think is possible for ourselves! I've taught hundreds of students over the past 15 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I've been described by students as encouraging and fun, and my teaching style is warm, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... It's what I love about what I do.

I began my violin studies at age 9, with my humble public school string program
. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.

In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.

In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.

In 2015, I began playing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.

Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, FaceTime, and Google Hangouts, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

In addition to giving classical violin lessons for over 6 years, I love teaching traditional Scottish fiddle music. This genre compliments classical training exceptionally well, and offers students a unique creative outlet. Not only is Scottish fiddling fun, but it allows for a great deal of individual interpretation within the style. Stylistic ornamentation, tune types, tune structure, and developing sets of tunes will be highlighted in lessons, and tune composition will be encouraged.

About Miriam-Rose
Hello! My name is Miriam-Rose, and I have been teaching violin/fiddle to students of all levels and ages for over six years. I was trained classically in the Suzuki method from a very young age, and also have a significant background in traditional music, specifically Scottish fiddle. During my time at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, I created my own degree with a focus on Scottish music, and also became the third place winner of the 2012 National Scottish Fiddle Championship.

In addition to my background in music, I have a degree in Ballet Performance from the Jacobs School of Music. I have been teaching ballet since 2010, and have taught and danced professionally here in the Chicago area since 2013.

Thanks, and I look forward to working with you!

The violin sings, but the fiddle dances. Or so the old saying goes! In teaching fiddle, I love to bring essential violin technique together with the various styles of diverse music. In the first few lessons we'll explore the style of fiddle you'd like to play and create a path towards that sound. As time goes on, you'll be ready to jump into a bluegrass jam circle, start a ceili or shred like Lindsey Stirling! The direction you take is up to you, and I'm excited to help you meet your goals!

About Elias
At 5 years old I was struck by the incredible beauty of Vivaldi's music, and ever since I've been playing violin. I hold a BA from Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences and attended the Baroque Performance Institute in 2005 and 2006. Apart from teaching, as a professional musician performing in Southern California I am well versed both in classical violin and various fiddle styles ranging from bluegrass, Celtic and old-time to rock, pop and blues. I also play viola and mandolin and write music.
