*** Lesson Details ***
I have experience teaching since 1995 while I was still in college. I primarily use Alfred and "Faber & Faber" piano methods for beginners. I teach how to read music, understand the theory behind the music, and the technique needed in a patient atmosphere at the pace of the student. I also teach you how the piano works and the different types of pianos as well as the history of keyboards used for different classical music. The lessons are geared toward the goals of the student no matter what level is desired.
In teaching singing, I will teach you the basics necessary to create a healthy and relaxed sound through technique. With experience singing music ranging from classical to contemporary church music to musical theater, I can teach you how to use the voice in a way that will promote a long time of singing without adding stress to the voice. I will work with any style of music and will give you the technique and confidence needed to become a better singer.
*** Studio Equipment ***
In my home studio is a piano and books with big windows to look out. Pianos are an upright piano and an Alesis Synthesiser. Seating is available for parents as well.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have a piano or an electric keyboard at home for piano lessons. For voice lessons a keyboard is not required but is helpful.
*** Specialties ***
I primarily teach piano in a classical style using either "Faber & Faber" or Alfred Methods for piano lessons.
For voice, I teach all my students to sing in a way that will be the most beneficial to the health of their voice. Doing this is helpful to all styles of singing.

About me!
I am a Westminster Choir College '11 Alum who graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. I also have my master's degree in music therapy from Drexel University. I am also a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a Board Certified Music Therapist. During my time at school I performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center, and did music therapy work with older adults, as well as disadvantaged children and parents.
I also have my own parent/child music class I host every Thursday September-May. It's never to early to start a music education!
I have been teaching for over four years and now have a studio of more than 70 happy students. Teaching music is my passion, and I love seeing students grow!
I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development. My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

My studios are equipped with keyboard, guitar or piano, as well as a sizable repertoire of classical, broadway and popular music. ' I also have a mirror for voice students to see how their body is moving when singing and visual tools for students like scarves, whiteboard, markers, crayons...ect. The most important aspect of vocal training that I will emphasize is breath support. Connecting to the body when singing will ensure vocal protection and prevent unwanted vocal strain. I will also focus on gaining control through scales and breathing. I would like my students to gain consistency in their lessons each week by providing them with new challenges and helping them to gain new tools when practicing. Applying these fundamental elements of healthy singing into each student's repertoire is the ultimate goal in these lessons.
About Christina
Along side opera and other genres of singing, I believe basic knowledge in piano is extremely beneficial in improving musicality and an understanding of each piece. Piano greatly improves sight reading and ones ability to learn music quickly and efficiently. It can allow one to develop an understanding of harmony and context within each unique piece of music.
I would love to help and guide those interested in music, specifically classical voice, opera, musical theater, and piano. I would love to share the gre

Drawing from his experience as an opera singer in venues throughout out the US, including the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Carnegie Hall, I address proper posture, vowel placement, pronunciation and interpretation.
About Steven
Online lessons allow us to work together without having to waste time traveling to my studio, not to mention wasting money on transit, tolls, gas or parking. Additionally, it has allowed me to offer my lessons for considerably less than I did "in-person." In addition to singing lessons, I've also worked with online students on monologues, on-camera instructional videos and voiceovers.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Olivia also auditioned for the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Conservatory and was accepted for their August Intensive program. I have no doubt that it was Steven's teaching that helped her with her audition that gained her acceptance.
Olivia is now 12 and as a young person, needs to learn how to interpret a song so that she can perform it well. Steven takes the time to teach the MEANING of the words and explains the story that is trying to be told. This was very important for Olivia to learn.
I highly recommend working with Steven. He is a fabulous teacher with a lot of knowledge and insight.

I have been providing caring coaching since 2001 for more than 150 students across 6 local school districts in the South and West Hills of Pittsburgh, plus from Bishop Canevin, OLSH and CAPA. I offer personalized private instruction in voice and music theory for ages 12 to adult, beginners to advanced. (Younger students may be considered after consultation with parents.)
I have a broad background, stretching from musical theater to opera to
contemporary Christian worship. I studied opera in college with Claudia Pinza.
However, currently I mostly utilize my gifts in a church with a contemporary music style. I have coached many young people in their development as worship leaders as well as worship vocalists.
I believe that the fundamentals of good singing technique translate across all genres of singing. Therefore, I don't mandate that my students sing opera; however, we can certainly do that if a student is interested! I believe that my job is to help you fulfill your ...

I have always used my music in my church. For most of my adult life, this has meant a contemporary Christian music setting, being a worship leader for our church's worship team, directing and fronting a full band. I can help to develop you as an effective worship leader, in addition to being a solid worship vocalist.
My former students include professional actors, opera students, and a Best Actor and Best Actress award winner at the Gene Kelly Awards for High School Musical Theater.
And parents, you can rest easier, knowing that I have my PA Background Clearances. I teach in my in-home studio. The studio has glass doors, so your student is always visible. Parents may sit in on any lesson; they're also welcome to wait in my living room, right outside the studio room. My home is conveniently located 10 minutes from Waterdam Plaza on Route 19, in McMurray, PA.
