Classical voice technique is the foundation for all proper singing, and translates to all styles for the best sound, breathing, support and vocal stamina. My education, training, knowledge of the voice and vocal pedagogy, performance and teaching experience will help you to achieve your singing goals, proper care of the voice, and adaptation to all styles of singing.

About Judy
First of all, leave any fear or doubt at the door! We will work together to help you build and develop your voice for whatever your need. Whether you are a beginner just realizing you can sing, a high school student needing to prepare for your college auditions or a professional singer getting ready for an upcoming audition, I can get you where you need to be! My philosophy of voice instruction, developed over twenty-five years of teaching experience, personal vocal study and professional singing, focuses on three primary areas:
- Proper singing technique
- Key principles of voice training
- Breath development as a foundation for singing
- Care of the voice
- Varied and appropriate repertoire
In addition, voice training demands an exceptional ability to connect with the student on a personal level. Vocal in
struction is a highly individualized art. The melding of both the technical and the personal aspects of singing is the dynamic that creates an effective and successful teaching/learning experience. Augmenting my teaching experience, I have been heavily involved in productions with children and young adults, using my musical knowledge, vocal expertise and skill in dance and choreography.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University. I am a professional singer and actress and a member of Equity and SAG-AFTRA.

*** Lesson Details ***
I find that when a student arrives for their lesson, they usually are a bit tense, either because they were stuck in traffic, had a bad day at work, did poorly on a test at school, etc. So we always start with some stretches to loosen up and clear the mind. For voice students, we'll move on to technique building, working with breathing exercises, learning about good support and placement. Next, we'll continue the warm up with a series of varied exercises-think "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music-and then move on to songs. Your repertoire will be varied. You'll be singing classical music (really helps to build and strengthen the voice), music theater, pop, country and anything you may be interested in singing! That being said, since this is your lesson time, you may need to prepare for an audition, a solo at church or some other performance and may need to devote your entire lesson to that preparation. And that's fine with me. We need to be flexible to help you get the most from your time with me!

Whatever you are studying, always know that my primary goal is your growth as a musician and performer.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Open loft area with a black grand piano. Music. Cabinets. Seating for parents. Street parking available for those who are driving. 5 minute walk to subway. 1 small dog and one cat.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a digital recorder & cassette recorder. I find it is better for my students to have their own voice recorder but I can record for them.

*** Specialties ***
My experience as a performer has been varied, ranging from fronting a rock band in the 80's to cantoring for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to music theater (I am a member of Equity & SAG) to jingle & commercial work. I specialize in music theater and classical but am very comfortable working with pop & rock.

Judy is great! Very flexible! She's a great listener, so it's easy to explain what I think my weaknesses are (she's also good at pointing out things I didn't know I have a problem with) and she knows so many exercises to address them. She's also very patient, kind and positive, so I never feel down or hopeless about what I'm trying to accomplish. Definitely the best teacher I've had so far!

Classical Voice, Opera, Lieder and Art Songs, etc. is what I know best. I was based in Europe as an opera and concert soloist for many years and can also help you with your German, French & Italian in the songs. I will develop your voice and help you to find more power and freedom of expression. The lessons will start with vocalize and technique, and then we will work on your repertoire to make sure the technique holds. Should you eventually want to have an accompanist at one of your lessons, The lesson time would of course need to be coordinated with my pianist as well.

About Valerie
After a long and successful career as an opera and concert soloist and vocal pedagogue, Ms. G. returned to NY and has opened my studio to serious students of all ages. Having lived and worked all over Europe, she is fluent in German, Italian and French as well in the musical style needed for art song, oratorio and opera. She also teaches the €œbelt technique€ needed for musical theater, pop, and jazz. She has taught privately in the USA, Germany and Italy for many years, as well as on the faculty of the University of Koblenz, Germany.

During the summers, she offers voice lessons at her studio in Tuscany, Italy where she is also artistic director of the Camerata Colombaia Music Festival and director of "Casentino Voice" , an intensive vocal program for singers with masterclasses, private lessons, coaching and performance.

Some Tes
timonials from my students:
"At last, someone who's willing and able to understand the individuality of my voice. Ms. G. is a great teacher for the professional singer, though I regret I didn't study with someone like her when I was a student. She does not require that you start from the beginning again with 'her' technique. She is creative and intuitive and has the skill to help you immediately improve upon that which you already have. I am very excited that I have found her!"

"Valerie can teach you how to sing without pressure while still producing a strong sound".

"A good teacher, must be able to help you significantly in the first lesson. Valerie is one of those".

"Since I've been studying with Valerie, my voice has gotten richer and more even. Singing feels a lot easier now"

"I've studied with so many teachers, Valerie is the first one to focus on my problems, solve them and make me feel good about my strengths at the same time".

I am classical singer and voice teacher living in NYC. I help students develop range and ability while assisting in picking out repertoire and building performance skills.

About Angela
I am a professional opera singer and voice instructor in New York City. I have an opera, musical theater, church and choral background. I am comfortable teaching all styles of music.

Our singing voice is the instrument that we were each born to play. My goal is to make singing effortless and enjoyable and to help my students build confidence in themselves by developing their instrument.

Together we will work on breathing, speaking and vocal exercises as well as appropriate repertoire singing with beautiful Italian vowels, free of tension and with emphasis on emotional purpose.

It would be my pleasure to work with my students on basic music theory. I can also help students prepare their voices for public speaking engagements.

I told two formal degrees, one in vocal performance and one in lyric opera. I teach my students the core of all classical singing-- the bel canto technique, which I learned from the world-renowned baritone, Vladimir Chernov!

About Taylor
An active tenor and music director, and a champion of vocal performance, I pride myself in offering students comprehensive musical training. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from the California Institute of the Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Opera from Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. In addition to my performance credits, I am a frequent collaborator of Off-Broadway and touring musical theatre productions.

I am passionate about creating meaningful, accessible art, which is what fuels my teaching. My students have gone on to book international gigs and earn acceptances at prestigious music programs nationwide!

Taylor was the music teacher at CAP and Plaza De La Raza's Theatre collaboration in 2014 and I was one of the students who was lucky enough to work with him. I helped with sound effects and he always helped us stay in order and be creative while doing it. One of my fondest memories of being Taylor's student was when I was an understudy for a singing part in the production. It was a piece higher than I had ever confidently sang before, so I was nervous. All the days leading up to the performance he rehearsed with me and helped me hit the notes and be confident. I was still completely nervous when the show came along and Taylor was so helpful and calming, and definitely real. He got me to talk myself up and be confident and that is what made the performance so fun in the end. When looking for a vocal teacher, you always want someone who will make you comfortable and also be honest with you, Taylor is both of those things and I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

I have been literally to 4 youtube teachers and though I have nothing bad to say about any of them, i know that I need a long term teacher that I can see myself growing with as a singer. Our personalities just meshed. She knows how to make one feel comfortable. She is very encouraging to students with zero self confidence like me. I think I have found the teacher I’ve been looking for in Elena! i’m excited to see what she can do to transform my voice. Her resume as well as her reviews( students spoke highly of her character) are what stood out for me out of thousands of teachers online! It is also important that I love to listen to my teacher’s voice and i love her voice😊

My students will learn the keys to a healthy, vibrant sound! I teach my students important and personalized vocal techniques and nuances that fit their range, style and skill set. My students will be able to produce a healthy, resonant and unique sound that fits their musical interests and personal strengths as a singer. I will guide them in choosing music and vocal literature that compliments them while appeasing their musical tastes and preferred genres. I will encourage them not only in the physical act of singing, but also the act of performing- as portraying the character or expressing an emotion is just as important as a beautiful voice! We will also dive into the important basics, such as breathing technique and exploring the vocal anatomy, as well as approaching more advanced topics about the singing voice, in order to make them a more well-rounded and knowledgable vocalist.

"I am very proud to pass along the rock-solid technique taught to me by master teacher Carol Kirkpatrick. It is the most secure, healthiest way to sing that offers the singer the utmost range of expression. I opened a voice studio which I keep small and extremely personalized because I think it is extremely important to pass along this technique to singers of all ages. I hope you will contact me to discuss working together further!"
