I want you to feel good when you sing, both inside and out and I will help you find the best tone for your voice both from a pedagogical place but also from a place where you can sing from your soul.

I have been teaching voice professionally for 20 years. I have a long history in musical direction, currently finishing work on two shows for The New Group this season. And my work as a composer has been produced throughout the country. I also have a successful vocal coaching studio, from which my clients have worked Once On This Island (Broadway Revival), The New Group, Goodspeed Opera House, The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, and many other regional and industrial platforms.

*** Lesson Details ***
The thing that makes me different from most voice teachers is that I approach everything from an acting stand point.

I believe singing is an extension of the voice when speaking is not enough. The student will explore the breathing process, impulse and intention, and a work out for the body (including some simple Yoga, Pilates, and voice and speech work).

I also believe in text, melodic, and accompaniment interpretation. By the time you are done with a song you will understand every secret of it so that you can act the heck out of it.

All this is to make the process of singing as alive, natural, and easy as possible.

I will also teach you warm-up exercises that are go while you are waiting to go into an audition.

I have an extensive library of musical theatre to build your book for any occasion or style you may need.

So come on over and look at music and your voice in a whole new light.
*** Specialties ***
Building an actor's book to help them with auditions. Will then teach the song and work with the singer on interpretation of music and lyrics.

Learn classical vocal production for art song, oratorio, operetta, opera etc.

About Jessica
Jessica is a fun, patient, passionate teacher whose mission is to pass on the wonderful knowledge and love for music that was instilled in her onto a new group of eager young minds.
Jessica Winn has been studying and performing classical music for over 20 years. Her relationship with music started at age 9 with the Contra Costa Children's Choir and she has maintained her classical vocal studies ever since. Along with her vocal studies, Jessica studied classical piano privately with Keith Snell for 7 years, competing and achieving high marks in regional competitions. She went on to receive her Bachelor's degree in Music at Mannes College of Music in New York City and finished her education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she received her Masters, receiving training in vocal pedagogy and physiology, as well as vocal pe
rformance. Jessica graduated from SFCM in 2009 and immediately began perusing both a teaching and performing career.
Jessica has maintained an active voice and piano studio since 2011, leading her students to high musical achievements in both fields, and is a Master Vocal coach at Acalanes High School. Other teaching experience includes Musical Theater Camp Director for the Heads Up Program at Head Royce in Oakland and Village Center for the Arts, giving private lessons, leading In-School Outreach Programs throughout the Bay Area, and heading their Musical Theater program.
Jessica is an active performer in the Bay Area as well, performing with Opera San Jose, Phenix Opera, Berkeley Chamber Opera, Verismo Opera, West Edge Opera and Marin Baroque. Jessica has also been employed as a performer on the east coast, making her professional debut with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in 2011 and with The Manhattan Opera Studio.

*** Lesson Details ***
In my lessons, I feel it is important for my students to have fun and to and enjoy the learning process. However I believe in order for both student and teacher to get the most out of the lesson, practicing at home is extremely important and I expect my students to do so. I will always send them home with a goal or assignment that should be reached or completed by the next lesson to the best of the students ability.

For my voice students, we always begin with breath. Proper breathing is the foundation for all good singing. Then we move on to warming up both the voice and the body. During warm-ups, we will focus technical concepts such as breath control and support, vowel placement, and optimum vocal production. In most lessons (time permitting) we will work through a piece of music, one of their choosing or, if needed, I will recommend a piece. We finish each lesson with a review of the concepts we discussed during the lesson and practice goals for the week.
For my piano students, I begin with finger placement and keyboard awareness. Depending on the students age and level, we will use both a music book and a music theory book (for very young students, I will hold off on the music theory and focus mostly on finger placement and keyboard awareness). Each week, I will assign two pieces of music and pages in the music theory book (again depending upon student's age and level). Students are expected to prepare the assignments by practicing at home and have them ready at the next lesson.

Communication is something very important to me as a teacher. I want my students to feel comfortable expressing their needs and/or concerns, musically or otherwise and hope they would appreciate me, as the teacher, to do the same.

*** Specialties ***
Classical voice is definitely my specialty. I believe good classical technique is the basis for all good singing and can be applied to ALL musical genres.

Patient and encouraging

I'm always impressed with how Jessica is patient with our 7 year old daughter and still is able to draw her out and motivate her when she is tired from school. Jessica always finds creative ways to be inspirational. Both my husband and I drive 15 miles to be able to have Jessica teach our little girl. We think she is worth it. She has been flexible and always tried her best to work within our schedule and has even driven out to our house to cover a lesson when things didn't work out in the schedule.

Wonderful teacher

Jessica is teaching piano and voice to my 10 year daughter, and I am so impressed with her skills as a teacher. She is patient, encouraging, and inspiring, and her love for both music and teaching is apparent. She is also extremely knowledgeable about music theory and uses a teaching method that's very effective and gets students actually playing music right away, without shortchanging their long term development as musicians. Jessica is a rare find, plus she comes to our house for lessons!

About Beverly T.

I believe in a naturally solid vocal technique through a relaxed larynx, free and steady airflow, and active yet easy support. The bulk of the work should be from the body below the neck, involving the abdomen, back, and sides, but leaving the larynx uninhibited. This results in a warmer, more beautiful sound and guarantees longevity in the singer's career, protecting them from vocal damage. Other important factors I work on include erect yet relaxed posture, an open jaw, and raised soft palate

About Beverly
I believe in inspiring long term results in students through constructive feedback and a healthy and strong technique to serve as a solid foundation for any musical style. I enjoy sharing my love of music and watching students progress in both their musical development as well as their appreciation for music.

I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Indiana University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University. I have experience teaching voice as well as advanced sight singing to students with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences privately and in group settings. In addition, I have played the piano for over ten years.

I am an extremely enthusiastic and dedicated teacher, and I go out of my way to ensure that my students receive the tools they need to take their abilities to
the next level and achieve their goals. For me, the focus is entirely on the student and what I need to do to help their development.

As a voice instructor with over 20 years experience in the private studio, college environment, church ministry, high school chorus master teacher, and as a free-lance performer, I understand that each student requires tools and techniques unique to their needs to grow and improve. Focusing on the basics of breath control, efficient support, and healthy vocal production, my gift of hearing and assessing each student's strengths and weaknesses allows me to create lessons catered to each singer's specific needs.

With a Master of Music in vocal performance from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, an appreciation of various styles of music, and my personal investment in each individual singer, I am able to successfully share my knowledge of the vocal instrument and my love of music with my students. I am proud of my student success rate with many singers pursuing degrees in music at the collegiate level, winning competitions, earning roles in local and community ...

About Holly
As a professional performer, teacher and master teacher with a Master's degree from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Chico, I have performed with orchestras, chambers groups and choirs throughout the United States and Europe.
Comfortable in both classical and musical theater genres, my knowledge of vocal production and the musical skills needed to succeed in music make me an excellent teacher. I pride myself in having a great ear and instinctual understanding of each student's individual instructional needs.

Before relocating to Houston, I owned and operated a successful full-time private teaching studio in the Atlanta area with voice students succeeding in All-State Chorus, the Governor's Honors Program, college auditions, local competitions, community thea
ter, and school chorus auditions. As a successful soloist and vocal instructor, I pride myself in teaching proper technique, nurturing each student's vocal development, helping singers develop a true love of music, and gaining an appreciation of their unique vocal gifts. Many of my vocalists learn the skills of reading music by learning keyboard and basic theory through piano lessons, which I am also able to teach.

With a creative and personable teaching style, I am able to connect with each student where they need to be met. My students of all ages see an immediate improvement when applying the techniques that I share with them. Focusing on healthy vocal production, good breath support, and proper techniques of support and vowel placement, I am able to help students reach their musical goals through vocal exercises and drills, direct application to selected music, and assigned home practice between lessons. After learning the basics of vocal production, we can further focus on interpretive elements of the songs and students will feel the rewards of making beautiful music with their own free and unique sound.

I offer vocal training with a classical emphasis for beginning students of any age!

I am happy to work short term with students who would like audition or concert guidance.

About Courtney
Hello, I am Courtney!

As a teacher I strive to meet each student where they are at so that our lessons can suit their strengths and needs. I can be a little silly with my young students and believe that music, while sometimes hard work, is most importantly for our enjoyment and emotional expression. I am very patient and love nothing more than a student's "aha!" moment, when something that seems difficult finally makes sense. I've been told by administrators that I have a very calming demeanor with students, which I believe has helped me to create a open and welcoming classroom.

I grew up in the mountain town of Stowe, Vermont, where I participated in music activities from the time I was a young child. I was part of our school's band, jazz band and chorus as well as participating in school and community theater both on and off stag
e. I've wanted to be a teacher since the age of 10, when my youngest sister was born. I loved babysitting, and took every opportunity I could to work with children as I grew up, including teaching Sunday School and being a music leader at a yearly camp. I chose to combine my two passions and become a music teacher, because I believed (and still do) that not only could I assist in their education, but that music is a wonderful tool to help students grow emotionally and socially as well. I now have been a licensed music teacher since 2012 and have a Bachelor's in Music Education from Hartt School of Music and a Master's in Music Education from Boston University.

After teaching in Connecticut for a number of years, my husband and I moved to our current home in Santa Monica, CA. We have a five-year-old fluffy corgi named Duke who lives a double life as a spoiled baby and a hard-working service dog. If you are in the Santa Monica area you may see us out and about at parks, people watching downtown, or generally enjoying the sun.

I have spent the last 5 years developing a 10 step program that all of my students work through when they begin with me! During that time, I was also a part of a performing arts group where I had the opportunity to teach, perform and travel all over the world to countries like Germany, Poland, and Japan. I have worked with students of all ages and skill levels to develop their technique. My goal as an instructor is to help you to become the most prepared artist, no matter where you are. During your time with me, we will address topics like: vocal health, audition technique, rehearsal technique and etiquette, the proper way to approach new music and music styles, and more! Once you have completed the initial ten step program, the lessons are then tailored around you and the advancement of your skills so you can take your career as an artist to the next level.

About Jacqueline
Jacqueline is a young artist who discovered her love for performing in her very early years. From the time that she was able to speak, she was singing; often giving private (and typically mandatory) performances for her family in the living room. As she grew older, the fireplace was replaced by a stage, and her Barbie microphone was replaced with a real one.

When she graduated high school, she decided to embark on a journey that would change her life in more ways than she thought possible. The first step on this journey was moving to California to be a part of The Young Americans College of Performing Arts. During her time here, she learned how to be a better vocalist, dancer and actor. However, she also discovered that she has an affinity for managing costumes for a production, as well as learning how to properly write, produce, and
manage a show. With this group, Jacqueline had the opportunity to travel, perform, teach, and experience life and culture in wonderful ways. In 2017, she spent three months traveling from town to town in Europe; specifically the countries of Germany and Poland. Then, in 2018, she had the opportunity to be in Japan for 6 weeks as part of an advanced cast. During this time, she and the cast would work to put on workshops for students there. Some workshops would be three days in length, while others were only a day.

Regardless of time, the students were given the opportunity to see performing in a new light, try some skills they might have never done before, and then put on a full performance of their own for their parents, peers, and community. After the six weeks were over, she was a part of a select cast which performed at a dinner theatre for the remainder of the summer. Each evening brought its own challenges alongside its own magic. Getting to hone her skills and make memories with cast and audience members alike were her favorite parts of this experience. Throughout her career with The Young Americans, Jacqueline was part of roughly 150 performances around the world.
Jacqueline has since moved home, with hopes of pursuing a full career as a vocalist, musician, and teacher.

"Find something you are passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it."
