learn how to navigate Ableton as a producer and performer. learn how to use an APC controller as an instrument
I grew up in Glenside moved to Pittsburgh for school and came back because I love it here...I've been playing for 17 years and have a smorgasbord of influences from Zeppelin to the Beatles to Phish to Radiohead to the dirty projectors to Jay Z to Kurt Rosenwinkel & John Scofield. I have been composing and working with original bands for some 11 years and play regularly in the city and up and down the east coast. I have also been teaching for the past 11 years all over the Philadelphia area. i teach from a method I derived myself from years of learning both in and out of school. I think teaching music is both aural as well as visual and encourage students to listen to music a lot. most of all i feel that music is fun and the students should enjoy learning so i incorporate their favorite artists and favorite songs into our studies. for seri
ous students I love theory and love sharing what I've discovered over the years.
*** Lesson Details *** I'm a very laid back guy but I take my playing seriously. music is my life and there's nothing I enjoy sharing and expressing more. I learned to love playing guitar when I was 12 from the coolest guitar teacher ever. he had a vibe that i gravitated toward and encouraged me in just the right ways to get me believing in myself. I try to encourage my students the same way. music should be fun above all and sculpt my lessons to each students individual needs so that they are better equipped to succeed.
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect them to provide guitar/bass/piano
*** Specialties *** Jazz, Rock, Blues, Classic, Pop
Seemed a little disorganized. It might have been part of the "getting to know me" process and what I wanted to accomplish. The hour went by very fast!

I have taken lessons from Benjamin, and found him to be an excellent teacher. If you are looking for someone to teach you bass, or guitar you can't find a more patient teacher. I would recommend him to anyone seeking lessons.

Joey teaches music
lessons for piano, saxophone, composition, and production. He has taught all levels and ages for over 10 years. Joey has been playing the saxophone and piano for over 20 years. In addition to working as an adjunct professor at Mesa College, Joey has coached saxophone at Westview and Mt. Carmel High School, and taught college level courses in electronic music and music production at SDSU. Joey has a very adaptable approach when he teaches. He understands that all students have very different learning styles and interests. His broad range of musical and educational training allows his students to learn many styles and genres of music while understanding fundamentals like theory and technique. Students will be empowered to hone their craft as an instrumentalist, composer, producer, artist, or all of the above.
We love joey!!! He's a great teacher because he teaches the way that is right for the student. He comes to our house twice a week to teach our 5-year-old son, who wasn't particularly interested in learning the songs from the book, scales, etc, so Joey changed it up to make it fun for him by focusing on making up songs and improvising (while still sneaking in some of the technical stuff). Our son looks forward to his lessons so much! Joey is obviously a masterful pianist and could teach at any skill level.

Joey is a gifted musician and even more gifted teacher. My 14 year old has been taking piano lessons with Joey for about eighteen months now. We lived in San Diego for a year and my son started in person with him for close to ten months. Joey's teaching style and connection with my son was so effective that we decided to continue lessons via Skype. My son is a highly gifted kid for whom lots of learning comes easily. Not so with music, but he is inspired and motivated by Joey. Joey's ability to meet the learner where they are and push them beyond their normal comfort zone is impressive. I am very, very glad that we found him. Joey's teaching style is engaging and encouraging while holding the learner accountable to practice, development, and growth. I wholeheartedly recommend him for both in person and online lessons.

Joey has been teaching piano to our now 8 and 11 yo boys for more than a year. Although my kids aren't musical per say and don't tend to practice during the week, thanks to Joey their piano skills are impressive! Without ignoring the theory, Joey was able to adapt his teaching style to their personalities and has taught them to play their favorite songs. My younger son was so excited to to learn Fall out Boy's "Centuries" he would run to the piano to practice! Both boys are clearly proud of their accomplishments and love to show them off to their friends. Thank you Joey!
I've produced 100+ tracks using Ableton and my plugin library including Nexus, Serum, Sylenth, UAD, DadaLife, and Native Instruments.
Christiaan is a multi-talented performer in theater, opera, and pop music. He played Gaston in the Broadway tour of Beauty and the Beast. Something of a bad boy, he was kicked out of Opera School for singing jazz, yet he went on to earn three music degrees, and work with opera legend Marilyn Horne and avant-garde composer Jake Heggie. Now he's in New York studying with Lady Gaga's teacher and singing his own arrangements of Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, and John Mayer at Carnegie Hall while writing and recording pop songs in Nashville and the U.K. Look for his new single That's When You Know.
Christiaan enjoys seeing people succeed, so his approach to teaching is a combination of play and practice. Ultimately we sing because we want to bring people joy, yet to do so, we must hone our talents to perfection. By mixing the joy of music with disci
I just had my first lesson with Christiaan. He was amazing. Gentle, very positive, and really good at observing and figuring out my strengths and weaknesses. He's also inspired me to learn with his love of music and thoughtful approach.

I was blown away by his knowledge and assessment of the skills I should prioritize. My mind was blown several times. Excellent pedagogy and very personable!

I've had a great experience taking lessons with Christiaan! I've had about 10 lessons total now. As someone who doesn't have a background singing, I was definitely a bit nervous going into it, but that didn't last long -- Christiaan's friendly and extremely talented. I especially appreciate that he provides context about posture, history, anatomy, etc. and that he took time early on to learn about my goals. Last but not least, I'm happy with my results so far!
If you want a lesson longer than 30 mins you can combine lessons to make them longer.
Max was a former instructor at Dubspot, the renowned electronic music production and DJ school in New York. You can watch his production tutorials on the Dubspot YT channel. He has been featured on the Ableton blog, and performs and teaches with his Ableton setup around the world. Max's lessons are individually tailored to each student, according to their musical tastes, personal goals, and skill level.
***THINGS YOU WILL LEARN*** We will always focus on the things you want to learn, but here are some of the concepts I often teach: -Layout of Live -Session View and Arrangement View -Programming beats with Drum Rack -Playing with a MIDI controller like PUSH -Sound design with Analog, Operator, and Wavetable synths -Using plugins -Sampling -Arrangement and song structure -Mixing and mastering
Hi, my name is Max. I have been teaching for over 15 years, teaching a range of instruments from saxophone, clarinet, and flute, to jazz piano. I also teach music theory, ear training, song-writing, and electronic music production. I teach students of all ages and skill-levels and hold a Masters degree in jazz saxophone performance from Manhattan School of Music, where I am currently on faculty to teach Music Theory and Eartraining at the Precollege Division. I also direct the jazz band at Gill St. Bernard’s School in New Jersey.
I love helping students achieve their goals, and I think learning music should be something fun and enjoyable. I also believe every student learns in a different way and at a different pace. With this in mind, I tailor my lessons towards each individual student and help them set achievable goals, making sure
they are having fun in the process.
Besides playing and teaching the saxophone, I also teach the clarinet, and flute, as well as music theory and electronic music production with Ableton Live. From my wide experience as a performing musician I can teach in a variety of genres, including jazz, classical, pop, and World Music.
I have been fortunate to have taught students all over the world, including Singapore, Africa, and the UK, many times performing along the way. I have led my own band for many years, with performances around the world, and with which I have recorded numerous albums, which can be found on Spotify and iTunes.
When I am not playing or teaching music I love to hang out with friends, be outdoors, and travel to places I have never been before.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you realize your goals in music.
Great instructor, he’s very knowledgeable and also patient when teaching. Highly recommend.

My first lesson was extremely productive. I am an adult student and hadn't played in many years and Max focused on techniques to help me with my weaknesses, and to quickly surpass the level of playing I was previously at. He is patient, encouraging and an excellent teacher.

Max is a fantastic teacher! As a parent I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a very experienced, kind, and fun teacher. Max is all of these things plus more. What I really like about him, besides that he is very knowledgable and amazingly talented, is that he always has a positive attitude! Lila loves to go to her lessons and she learned so much during her time with Max.
Berklee College of Music student who majored in Electronic Music Production & Sound Design, as well as Music Business. I was also mentored by a platinum selling producer. I love helping others and giving back the knowledge I have in music. I grew up classically trained on the clarinet. I can help you take your career to the next level by understanding audio, mixing, production, mastering, and more.
I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music with a dual major in Electronic Music Production & Sound Design, as well as Music Business. I actually learned from this site in the past and it taught me so much about music and production. I discovered the joy of giving back and teaching, and would love to pass on what I have learned from Berklee and my teachers outside of school to you. I specialize in contemporary production and engineering with an emphasis in making music that is practical and ready for radio. I can teach you all you need to know about audio engineering and production, as well as how to make your music relevant to the marketplace and heard. EDM music, hip-hop.rap, pop are my specialties, but I also can work outside of those genres. I have taught for about a year now before coming back to this site, so I am excited to meet n
ew students and pass on my knowledge.
In March of 2019, my career took off by signing my debut single to Black Hole Recordings. Since then, I have seen tremendous and continued success with my music and hope to help apply all that I have learned in the industry to my students as well.
My first session with Jarod was great! Lots of great information, very focused session, and great experience in a very well put together studio. Jarod was also very welcoming and open to conversing about personal manners that influence my music experience. Even after our first session, I feel much more confident in mixing practices which I had not before. Looking forward to our future meeting and I would highly recommend Jarod as an instructor for anyone looking to improve their knowledge and practices in regard to production and mixing/mastering!

I’ve worked with Jarod over the past few months, and I can unconditionally say that he’s the real deal. He has an excellent command of the entire music production process and how to navigate the music industry; not surprisingly he’s now a signed artist. Unlike a lot of instructors, Jarod is a naturally gifted mentor who actually takes time to figure out and plan out the best way forward. He is willing to share any insight and experience he has with his students. If you’re thinking about learning music production, Jarod is the perfect mentor to help you get to the next level.
Ableton is an incredibly powerful resource for all music activities. It can help you learn music theory, help you practice your instrument, create compositions, and so much more. Let's hang and make some music! We can make beats, new compositions, record new projects, make backing tracks for practicing, you name it!
Hi! My name is Ryan McNulty and I am a professional musician for the past 10 years! I have my Bachelor's degree in Music Education and my Master's in Trombone Performance. I am also certified in New York State to teach music!
My teaching style is informative and fun. We will learn music basics along with your favorite songs. To find out more about me and my music please visit: blacktiebrass.com or ryanmcnultymusic.com
For a little bit about me: I am a brass recording specialist having played trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, and tuba on numerous recordings, I am also a producer for many different styles from Sinatra swing to lofi hip-hop.
My last album I produced for Sal "The Voice" Valentinetti hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz, iTunes Jazz, and Amazon Jazz charts.
I have a lot of experience using Ableton both as a recording DAW and a live performance tool. I can help you realize your needs or just teach you the basics about how to use the software.
HI! I love teaching and I have many different areas of expertise. I am happy to teach combined lessons- Ableton mixed with synthesis, piano and accordion? Whatever your needs are, I am happy to find a way to teach you what you need to learn!
I take time as a teacher to get to know my students and the way that they learn. Everyone is different. The most important aspect of having a teacher is being able to learn from them.
PIANO- I studied for a long time with German Diez. (his principal teacher was Claudio Arrau) I have found a way to integrate the piano technique I learned from him into an engaging process of learning the piano- this is NOT limited to classical music.
ABLETON- I have used Ableton as a DJ, to create live dance music, as a device to perform as a multi-instrumentalist. I have used it to score a theater piece whic
h was triggered in real time. I use it to record- from a compositional tool to feature length soundtracks.
ACCORDION- I have been playing accordion since 2005. What drew me to that instrument, as a pianist, was the portability and being able to crescendo on one note. If you play piano and are interested in this instrument, the crossover takes a couple of weeks but, the results are immediate. If this is your first instrument, you will have a BLAST learning it!
COMPOSITION- I am trained (via Bard College, Joan Tower) as a "classical composer". Meaning, I write the notes on the page. However, it is 2019 and there are many ways to write music. In my career as a composer, I dedicate my life to exploring all the ways that one can be defined as a composer. I am more than happy to share my experience with you as a mentor to your creations. I will never tell you what to write- I will offer suggestions and be a vehicle to help you realize your music. Sometimes it takes a support system to "find one's voice". I am especially sensitive to people who are shy and/or late bloomers.
SYNTHESIS- Did you just get a new synth and can't figure out how to get it to make a sound? :) I am here. As a musician- whether seasoned or not, if you don't understand the basics of synthesis you are literally missing out on a WHOLE sonic universe.
Jil Christensen is a superhuman who comes down to Earth on occasion to help us mere mortals become better musicians. Having pushed Ableton to its limits, she is able to troubleshoot almost any issue a budding producer/composer will come up with and has a seemingly endless bag of tricks to help the student explore different possibilities for a composition. At the same time, she is able to break down the most basic concepts to get the beginner started (I didn't know what an oscillator was at my first lesson, nor had I ever used Ableton or any other DAW). In addition to being an expert in Ableton, Jil has extensive knowledge of synthesizers and other equipment both for the studio and live music production. Jil also has an encyclopedic knowledge of modern compositional techniques and years of experience implementing them. She is sure to take your music production and composition skills to the next several levels. Highly recommended!
As an engineer and producer I've used Ableton for all of my sessions and can help you if your just beginning to use the program or have specific questions you need answered.
Hello potential students!
I'm a drummer/producer/improviser/composer from Atlanta and based in Brooklyn. I studied jazz at New England Conservatory in Boston with legendary drummers Bob Moses and Billy Hart and have been performing professionally for over 20 years. My experience on stage and in the studio is deep, and I want to share it with you!
Any student from beginner to advanced is welcome! We can dig into the fundamentals of the instrument if it's your first time or more advanced concepts if thats your thing. I look forward to meeting you!
"Taylor is an amazing teacher! She really knows how to break down complicated subjects for people like me who have no idea how music theory works and why i
t's important. My class is divided into theory and actual use of the software which is really a great way to learn the concepts and apply them yourself. We also had a lot of fun jamming out to little songs we made!"

"Lauren's expertise and creativity really shines through during the lessons!! It's the perfect mix of a thorough, methodical lesson but also fun and extrem
ely engaging, with room for our individual visions and artistry to shine through on Ableton. I can't recommend her enough, She's the best out there!!!"
"Kyle is an excellent teacher. My son learned so much from him and loves his lessons. He is very knowledgeable, patient and kind."
"Josh is always easy to be around and is able to form any lesson around what I wanted to do, as well as teach me loads of new ideas if I hadn’t planned any
thing. He has greatly helped improve my own production and give me insight into what professional producers do to set themselves apart. He’s great to work with and always in an uplifting mood."
"Lauren was informative and organized but best of all, she explained each step of the recording process in a way that was easy to follow and understand. Sh
e used concrete examples and had me practice them on my own Ableton session to reinforce my learning."
