Ableton

My name is Mark. I am a DJ, music producer, and instructor based in San Francisco, CA. I have been producing electronic music since 2008 and DJing since 2012.

My history includes: operating a music blog in 2008 to ride the wave of electronic music's popularization, co-founding an online community of house music enthusiasts in 2015, hosting a weekly radio show at KPSU in 2016, launching a podcast focusing on storytelling through melodic house & techno music, and more recently organizing music events & festivals in the PNW region. I have played in low-light bars and on elaborate festival stages. I have written music to dance wildly to and music to meditate calmly to. I have played music to friends at home and I have played music to strangers in a foreign country. I seek to share the insights I have gained along my journey.

I hosted a weekly radio show, featuring the latest releases in underground house & techno music, various local Portland DJs, notable record labels, and a mix of tracks from my personal library.

I can help to demystify the process of electronic music production for you. The first step is to learn how to navigate the software and execute its functions. The next is to understand the basic elements of electronic music. As we move on we will learn about recording, arrangement, sound design, mixing, and more.

Mark is a great teacher. Super patient. Very strong knowledge of Ableton and able to teach me effectively so that I could apply the techniques to my projects. I'm a beginner with Ableton and Mark was able to meet me at my level and train me from there.

I had the pleasure of working with Mark over the course of ten weeks recently as I wanted to radically improve my abilities as a DJ. From the moment we began, Mark and I connected over similar musical tastes, and he understood my goals that I was setting for myself. 

Mark worked with me by giving me stylistic feedback and walked me through technical details that gave me the comfort to start DJing my own sets. In this era where distance learning is the norm and virtual broadcasting is getting more commonplace, the work that I did with Mark has allowed me to operate with confidence. I began doing weekly streams (which had rough beginnings!) that became were the basis for work we were doing together. 

I would highly recommend someone who needs help getting started DJing and also needs someone to bounce music ideas off of as they're honing in their craft. Thank you again, Mark!
