My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.

About Paul
Paul M is an American born, New York-based Piano teacher, Vocal coach, Pianist, Composer and Artist. As an educator, Paul is part of The Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, College Music Society and Music Teachers National. He has been an Adjunct-instructor at New York University (NYU). Paul also conducts master classes and seminars in The United states and South America. For the past few years, he has implemented classes in composition and music history in the coastal area of Ecuador and New York. His music studio in New York City is in high demand. He works with piano, composition and vocal performance students of all levels and styles, which include classical, jazz, blues, Tango, and Broadway. Paul also works with all different types of students such as those who want to learn for personal enjoyment or for professional reasons. He prepares h

This yearly student recital gives students the opportunity to perform in one of New York City’s most sought after recital Halls located in midtown Manhattan. In July of 2014 Paul became a Steinway Educational partner. In 2008, Paul received a Masters Degree in piano performance from New York University. In 2006, he received a Bachelor Degree of Music from Stony Brook University.
As a Pianist, In 2006 Paul was a prizewinner at the Music Club of Douglaston Piano Competition. For two consecutive years, Paul was awarded The Suffolk County Piano Forum Prize. XLNT Music recently wrote, “Paul is a fine pianist that performs with superb pianism and great sensitivity.”
 His recent public performances include Ecuador South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters NYC and The Staller Center. Paul has performed with The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The New York University Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with well-known piano teachers including: Martin Canin, Morey Ritt, Tina Dahl, and Anita Gelber. In 2011 he released a record consisting of his performance of original compositions for solo piano that is available in bookstores and on iTunes.
As a composer Paul has composed music for the feature film Documentary Between the Shades, directed by Jill Salvino and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in 2017. In 2014, Paul was the composer for the radio show Ackerman Associates Meets Dracula written and directed by Peter Stass. In 2014 he wrote the score for, Lies People Tell, a short film that premiered at the san pedro film festival. In 2011, he released his first solo record Succession of images, a song cycle for solo piano. In 2017, he released his second record Hope, a chamber music work recorded with clarinetist Thomas Piercy and Violinist Patrisa Tomassini. Recent public piano performances of his music include Ecuador in South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Spectrum NYC, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters in NYC and The Staller Center in Stony Brook NY.

As an artist, Paul is known for creating large instillations, paintings and live performing art pieces. From 2014-2016, he was the artist in residence at Spectrum Gallery in NYC. In 2014, he completed the Elevator Time Machine, a large instillation made of elevator parts that responds to sound. He also wrote and produced a 20 minute live art piece called Static in Movement for piano and video. His acrylic on canvas works have also been presented at Spectrum NYC, The Art Bar, The Gallery at Logos and Ward-Nasse gallery.

While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and competitions.
I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

About Asuka
I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.

I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams.

As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days.

As a versatile singer, I was presented as an aspiring opera singer on the website of Maybelline New York. Her voice was featured in short films for the Japanese technology company NEC. I appeared as a soprano soloist for the opera, Jazz and theater collaboration of "TAKE ABITE" by David Antonio Cruz. I also sings Broadway songs and continues her musical theater studies. She is an active recitalist and also performs Oratorio works.

I was also a finalist at the Opera Idol Competition at Lincoln Center in New York City, The Hariclea Darclée Voice Competition in Romania and the Mario Lanza and Elaine Malbin Vocal Competition in New York City. Ms. Uchida was selected as a vocal scholarship recipient at Savannah music festival.

My upcoming engagement includes singing the role of Gilda in Rigoletto and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera in 2018 in New York City.

Besides being an opera singer, I have been teaching piano and voice for 11 years. I would like to share my skills and experience with you. Since I perform often, I can coach you how to perform on stage in addition to building solid technique and languages. Also, I have taught various kinds of music, such as Rock, Broadway musicals, Pop music, so we can work on all kind of music.

I believe that learning music is fun and enjoyable. However you also need to be serious and focused.
I can demonstrate various and specific techniques, phrasing, and interpretation and will always coach on how to develop your skills. My daughter started taking online signing lessons with Asuka a few weeks ago and we have seen dramatic improvements in her voice. Asuka was able to guide my daughter away from singing in a way that would potentially damage her voice towards a strong technique with a beautiful tone. Her voice is now well supported and getting better every week. My daughter really adores Asuka as she is really easy to get along with and is great with kids.

Rebecca is not only professional and patient but she is an expert at identifying the best vocal exercises to address your specific weaknesses. She would make a perfect teacher for beginners, experienced singers and anyone in between. I've been a student for about 10 lessons and have noticed a big difference!

A lesson with me will include a warm-up, where we discuss basic concepts of technique, vocal physiology and sound. You will learn the fundamentals of healthy singing and increase your vocal stamina. I'm having the greatest time taking lessons with Jessica. It's definitely the highlight of my week. She's extremely personal, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable. I love that she doesn't just teach you how to sing properly but explains the science behind the technique.She's great at finding what's unique about your voice and cultivating that. She teaches healthy technique that is based off of the human anatomy; the science of how the body/mind works and how the body/mind can work as efficiently as possible while singing or acting.

Learning how to sing/act is a process and doesn't happen overnight. Rachel's ultimate goal as a teacher is to not only make her students the best performers and singers they can be, but also give them all of the proper tools they need to have a more productive mind frame and become self-sufficient. Of course this can take years to master. It takes time and dedication.

OTHER LESSON INFORMATION

SINGING: Bel Canto singing technique for the modern singer is taught in private and group classes. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. Students are allowed to choose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student doesn't enjoy the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student. Gain a better tone quality, complete control of your voice, bigger range, more flexibility, and confidence. Learn healthy voice technique, how to fully take care of your own voice so you can sing for the rest of your life (even after lessons), and become a self sufficient performer for life.

ACTING: Stella Adler, Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and Meisner Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera is taught in private and group classes. All students are exposed to each technique and Rachel sees which technique each student responds to the most. Once the student and Rachel are able to identify the technique, Rachel continues to use the terminology of that technique for the remainder of the time the student is in lessons. Students eventually are able to play roles truthfully and realistically, even if the roles are opposite of the student's own personality.

BY THE TIME STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM LESSONS:

1. Gain a lifelong, solid, consistent, and healthy technique that they can always count on in practice and performance.

2. Gain specific technical and personal notes in a notebook and/or computer file that is organized and always accessible for review.

3. Gain artistry, performance skills, and a strong voice that will look/sound authentic; Singers will sound appropriate to whatever style of music they are singing. (No fake sound or look.) Actors will just be in the moment and truthful whether they are on stage or in front of the camera.

4. Gain the confidence to always put on a great performance.

5. Gain focus and a more productive mind frame.

6. Become self-sufficient by knowing how to assess a problem and then fix it without creating a new issue.

STUDIO POLICIES-

CANCELLATION: 48 hour lesson cancellation policy and emergencies (determined by me) are handled on a case by case basis. If the student needs to miss a lesson due to an other activity or vacation, they or their parents/guardian if under 18, must contact Rachel Menconi at least a week from their next scheduled lesson in advance to prevent from forfeiting the lesson.

MAKE UPS: Make up lessons will be scheduled when time allows. No make up lesson or class will be given to ‘no shows’ or late cancellation, and no extra time will be given to students who are late to their lesson or class. If there is ever a time Rachel Menconi is running late, extra time will be given to make the lesson a full 60 minutes. If Rachel Menconi needs to reschedule, a make up lesson will be scheduled as close to the same week as possible. Make up lessons are scheduled at Rachel Menconi’s discretion.

ONLINE LESSONS FOR IN-PERSON LESSON CLIENTS: In the event that the student is sick but still would like their lesson, an online lesson can be scheduled instead. Students can NOT come to their in person lesson sick, coughing, sneezing, with a runny nose, cold, flu, “allergies”, fever, etc. (This is to make sure no germs will be spread).

An online lesson can also be scheduled if there is bad weather, if a student is having car trouble, or any other reason for the student not being able to physically get to Rachel during their normallly scheduled lesson time. Online lessons are conducted through FaceTime, Google, Hangouts, or Skype.

SCHEDULE:
Lessons are weekly, on the same time/day of the week unless we have rescheduled or we have discussed in writing another lesson plan. If the student’s lesson falls on a holiday, we will either reschedule or if no other day is available, resume the following week.

LATENESS:
If a student is going to be late they need to contact Rachel Menconi as soon as possible, to let her know they will be late. Lessons will end on time unless she is able to extend the lesson due to a late student or her schedule allows for it though please understand, Rachel Menconi would be extending a courtesy and would not be obligated to do so. If on the rare occasion Rachel Menconi is running late, she will always make up the time.

SITTING IN:
Parents/Guardians are ONLY permitted to stay for the first lesson and are NOT permitted to sit in for any other lesson/class unless invited. This is to promote good/strong teacher-student relationship quickly and easily. Also, many times students feel more comfortable when their parents/guardians leave.
Of course there will be times when the parent will be invited back in at the end of some of the lesson to showcase progress.

My 9 yr. old daughter received singing lessons with Rachel. Rachel was SO wonderful, patient, and creative with every session with her. She was constantly coming up with different ways to keep her engaged and was always reassuring her to increase her confidence. Overall, very impressed. She is direct and doesn't tell you something you want to hear. Her evaluation process is well rounded and planned. She puts together a great curriculum to know what to expect in the coming lessons. Very easy going person and makes you feel completely comfortable at the initial lessons.

Justin Pollinger is a vocal coach, singer, performer, and educator based out of Jersey City, NJ.

During his high school years, Justin discovered his passion for music and education. Kenneth Brown, his former choral teacher, and mentor recognized Justin's untapped potential. He taught him the fundamentals of choral conducting, vocal technique, music theory, ear training and repertoire selection. Justin was a member of the award-winning Edison High School Choi
rs, NJ All State Choir and the NJ Region II Chorus.

Justin has spent 14 years studying under some of the best vocal coaches in New York and New Jersey, including Sarah Bachman­ Krieger (Manhattan School of Music, The Juilliard School), Steven Schnurman (The Juilliard School) and; Katherine Wessinger (University of Michigan). He currently studies under Melissa Perry (Westminster Choir College, Temple, and post-graduate work included 750 hours with Maestro Vittorio Rosetta of La Scala) While doing studies at Westminster Choir College, he studied with Tenor Eric Rieger (Eastman School of Music).

Justin founded and directed The A Cappella Choir of Middlesex County. After a successful first year and a full-length album, The A Cappella Choir sang at Carnegie Hall for the premiere of Eric Whitacre's electronic opera "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings"

Justin was the head of the choral department at the New Dover United Methodist Church in Edison, NJ. He directed and musically directed production's of The Rocky Horror Show at the Villagers Theater in Somerset, which subsequently moved to The Den Nightclub and ran for 2 consecutive years.

Justin has organized, directed and performed in fundraisers for the Edison high school Choral program, the program that first honed his raw talent and a place that to this day he still can call a home.

As a performer, Justin was seen as a back­up singer in the Bryan Hansen band. He has participated in theater all over NJ and is frequently hired for studio session work. He recently contributed backing vocals for Mike Wells' upcoming third studio album.

Justin has been teaching privately since 2007 (Justin Pollinger Vocal Studio). His Students have been accepted to some of the top music programs in the country including Westminster Choir College, Boston Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Mason Gross School School of the Arts, The Hart School and AMDA.

I went to Rutgers: Mason Gross School of the Arts for Vocal Performance as a freshman in Fall 2008; by the Spring of 2009, I was no longer a music student. Singing quickly became a laborious activity instead of an enjoyable past time; I felt as if I became incapable of adequately expressing myself because I was bogged down by a pretentious atmosphere and a teacher who lacked any sort of gravitational pull. Justin is the complete opposite.

I started studying with Justin in September 2013. He's so incredibly realistic. He lacks any form of pretense and his personality is so magnetic. Every time I walk into my lesson, I'm ready to go. He creates an atmosphere that is just so easy to adjust to, and he listens. I'm so grateful to have found him. In a little less than a year, he's helped me restore confidence in my vocal ability and gain back years of lost discipline in such a short time. He will hold you accountable without alienating you and for me that's invaluable. If you're looking for someone warm, but disciplined, Justin is your guy.

I'm an opera singer who's been making music since before I could talk, and I can't wait to share my love of music with you! I graduated from Vassar College with my BA in Music and Italian in 2016 and recently moved to New York to pursue my career. I have experience teaching Voice, Piano, and Early Childhood music lessons.

I began taking voice lessons at age 11. I had wonderful teachers who taught me classical technique to keep my voice healthy, supported, and controlled. Though I later chose to pursue a career in classical music, I initially was interested in musical theater. Through my own training, I have discovered that having an amazing teacher – one who is supportive, caring, and hard working, and who will push you and work with you to be better – is the most important tool an aspiring musician can have. I believe that every student is different, as no person's body is the same, and no vocal instrument is the same. Based on my performance in the Teaching of Singing course at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, I was selected to be a voice teacher to non-Conservatory students at Oberlin College. I have now had several students, two of whom, with my assistance, have just been accepted to prestigious summer programs in classical voice. Rachel was extremely patient and could figure out how to help a new singer like me navigate their body and find a true sound. Her positive feedback encouraged me to do better along with her comforting wit and humorous exercises that really made me open up. I believe she was the absolute best person to help me along and open up more than I had ever before and I think if she continues educating that she will do amazing things, and have fun all the while!

I took lessons with Rachel through the secondary lesson program at Oberlin College and it was a great experience! What I loved was that her teaching goals extended beyond how I sounded in the lesson itself, but also focused on trying to give me the tools for being able to properly and productively practice on my own. I also love her emphasis not just on proper technique and musicality, but also on expression.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read more in depth about my teaching. Before I became a teacher I was unsure of what to do. Just as many of my friends were going off to school I was still stuck. Luckily I found a singing teacher who taught me the proper way to sing and I’ve had a passion for it ever since and that passion grew into teaching my own students and being able to share the gift of singing!

With the method of Belcanto, you will not only develop a powerful voice, increased range and an understanding of the mechanics behind singing. But also how to maintain that power and keep your voice healthy and injury free. There are many voice teachers in New York. However, there are only a handful of good ones that truly wish for you to pursue your dreams and ambitions through music. I was taught by one of those teachers and now I
wish to teach the same way and share this wonderful technique with my own students! If you are injured you waste valuable time you could be using to better you’re voice and obviously no one wants that! Why not give yourself the gift of singing just as I have received? You lose nothing by trying, but you lose everything by not giving yourself the chance to do so!

The method I teach works for modern day music and also classical. It doesn’t confine you to a certain niche like other techniques tend to do. On the contrary it frees your voice to practice certain genres that you would never of thought a classical technique could be applied to!
