The ability to communicate and connect with each individual student is, for me, the only way to teach effectively. My approach to teaching applied voice is to lay a stable foundation, specific to each student and voice, while methodically eliminating obstacles and acquired habits which prevent the student from fully realizing their potential. I assess the needs of each student individually and seek to meet them where they are at any given point in their development. Inquiry is a vital aspect of my teaching practice as I seek to ensure that the student understands the concepts being introduced and that they are developing the critical thinking skills necessary to become autonomous in their singing.
I see my role of voice teacher as that of a facilitator, guide, and trouble-shooter. As such my primary teaching objective is to empower the student to internalize, apply, and find relevance in the information I am sharing.
From a technical perspective, my teaching remains firmly rooted ...

Julian has truly been a God-send for me. A brilliant, musician, technician and teacher. He is intelligent, patient, sensitive…so highly in tune with the voice. To say he knows the instrument well is an understatement.  And, just as important, he knows how to work with you as an individual. He has such a skillful way, as any great teacher should, of explaining what he is trying to convey in a variety of ways to help YOU as the student understand. Not all teachers are able to do that, but Julian can. And he makes sure that you understand so you can be your own technician and master of your instrument. I trust Julian. He has helped me and continues to help me understand and find MY voice.
Tara
I highly recommend Julian as a teacher. Before studying with him, my voice had a growth spurt, and none of the “well known” teachers I had studied with knew what to do with it. My voice was in pieces, and Julian was the only teacher that was able to help me. He rebuilt my voice, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Julian was able to find my true voice, and I love that I sound like ME! Everyone in the studio has very distinct and different voices from one another. He’s able to find your true and individual vocal potential; he doesn’t just “bandage” the problem. He truly is the best!
Joel
Julian Kwok is a technician's technician. He can take large, unruly instruments and whisper them into efficiently wielded, marketable product. He can develop voices of any type to their full potential, but his specialty is, arguably, large voices. He expects a high level of commitment, so my advice: do the work. Doing the work will maximize your experience. He's keenly sensitive and understanding. If you're serious about a career and developing your voice in a healthy way, this is the guy.

I am currently an undergrad student at ETSU studying Instrumental Music Education with my primary instrument being saxophone. However, I have also had an extremely active vocal career throughout college with 4 semesters of ETSU women's choir, and 2 semesters of the top auditioned classical vocal group, ETSU Chorale. I have also been a paid vocal scholar at a local church for the past 2 years. I am fluent in vocal literature and technique. I would love to teach any vocal student from the beginner to low-intermediate level. I hope to help you set goals and achieve them! Message me to see if I am the right teacher for you!

I have been teaching voice lessons since I was in college! People kept asking me to teach them, so I did. I teach both classical and musical theatre singing, so if you would like to learn to belt or sing in Italian, I can help! I am experienced in French, Italian and German diction. For musical theatre, I teach both classical style (high voice) and belt (lower voice). I have a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with a Music emphasis, so I can also help with aural skills like counting systems and solfege. Solfege will help A TON if you want to pursue music in college. For younger singers, I can help with picking appropriately ranged songs to build vocal agility and strength.

About NIcholette

I take a very positive approach to teaching. I'll encourage you and guide you to reach your fullest potential, whatever your goals are. I focus a lot on technique(breath, sound, vowels and vocalization) because that is foundational for everyone and it will help you no matter what you want to achiev

I like to teach each lesson, for both voice and piano, by spending equal time on ear-training/sight-reading (sight-singing), technique, and repertoire.

For singers used to singing along with their favorite recordings, matching sounds coming from the piano can be quite a challenge. Luckily, we live in an age of smartphones and tablets. I say this because if you go to iTunes or the Google Play store and search “intonation,” there are many apps that will help you learn to sing in tune (on the correct pitch). I’m new to using these apps, but I plan to use these in lessons regularly. Aside from counting steady rhythms, the ability to sing in tune is one of the most important skills for any aspiring singer. And while I’m thinking about it, download a metronome too. (I’ll explain how to use this after you book a lesson..he he :)

Also, training singers can be difficult because they can't see their instrument, and often singers don’t practice because they can’t see their ...

"I was honestly speechless during my first lesson! Daniel G is the person I have been looking for in a long time. Daniel G is a great teacher! He has such a powerful and controlled voice and what a great personable guy! I just recorded a song tonight and I can already hear and feel a difference. After my voice changed, I kept getting frustrated trying to find the right teacher. I actually think I learned and improved more from my first lesson with Daniel than weeks with others. I'm almost hesitant to write this review in fear Daniel will have less time with me. 8-)"

"Michelle and Robert are amazing! I've been taking voice lessons for only about two months and can already see the improvement in my voice, especially my high register which was pretty much non-existent. Unlike other voice teachers I've had in my past who string you along endlessly with no progress, Michelle and Robert truly, truly care ... they want their students to learn proper technique, and to excel and achieve their goals. And the results are quick. I can't say enough about Michelle and Robert. Definitely 5 stars!"

"I can not recommend Kathryn as both a voice and piano Instructor highly enough. She is an extremely down-to-earth and highly gifted instructor. She makes her students feel comfortable but will also challenge them to bring out the best in them. She has extensive knowledge of vocal repertoire as well as an efficient and fun approach to piano methods. Kathryn is also an active and professional vocalist which gives her an ability to guide students through auditioning processes, audition piece selection, and requirements for overall performance preparedness. Her background as a Celtic harpist and pianist also enables her to help singers approach their musicianship skills with the acumen of an instrumentalist; a truly important skill that will set you a part from other singers. Kathryn has specifically helped me work through issues with my vocal health. She has given me practical and tangible strategies to ensure that I develop a healthy vocal tone and maintain good vocal care habits. If you are looking for a teacher with a TON of experience, an unassuming demeanor, and the ability to help you reach YOUR unique musical goals and needs, Kathryn is just the instructor for you."
