My name is Noel B., and I am a musician living and working in New York City.
When teaching a new student I employ many different methods. To me, music is about playing with people. Its important to be able to play by yourself but there are things you just can't learn unless you play with people. I liken it to taking soccer lessons but never playing on a team. Also, its important to perform. All of my students are invited to perform at a venue with a grand piano that professional musicians in the city play. This really helps the students and I set goals, and achieve them. I also use some method books, theory and other things, but just making it about playing makes the lessons much much more fun and inspiring for the students.

I also teach DJ/Turntablism along side DJ 4our 5ive (he has worked with Notorious BIG, Jay z, and is the current tour DJ for Lil Wayne). We have also started working together on performing at the venue near the school.
I hope to inspire others to pursue a musical life. No matter how serious and long, or short and light.

Noel has an extremely diverse background in much that goes well beyond the guitar - He's an awesome drummer as well. This made the lessons even more interesting since he could offer perspective from the drummer's point of view, stressing how important rhythm is to becoming a solid guitarist.
On top of everything else, one of the things I like the most about taking lessons with Noel is that sitting down with him is like sitting in on a jam session - a pretty cool feeling for someone who's somewhat new to music, but has always wanted to learn.

My teacher is amazing. A master professional in his musical field. He teaches like he's done it for decades, even though so young. I would dare to say he can teach with his eyes close. I love all his teaching techniques, from theory to scale, to practicing the Hanon Studies, to ear training and on. I like how he plays along with me while teaching me a new musical score. He completely dedicated to teaching his student and making sure his pupil is satisfied with his performance. He'll even help you with preparing you for an recital or musical event. He knows how. I highly recommend for teaching any pupil from age 3 to 92. He'll ask me what I want to do next, and then we look for scores that I can learn according to my level.. You may not know it yet, but you will like learning how to play the trombone. It’s held firm that some of the most important life lessons can be learned through music—especially about learning who you are, what freaks you out, and what really motivates you.
About the classes / What you will learn:
I welcome all students who are curious to learn and committed to practice. All levels and all ages are welcome; whether you’ve never touched the instrument before or you just need a little help fixing an embouchure issue, or even out those lip slurs (the never ending battle!!!). If needed I will provide a trombone for you to play during in-person rehearsals, as you find an instrument to rent or purchase.
These classes embrace a holistic teaching method, where principles of music are interwoven with observations about life on a larger scale. They can be taken taken in-person, in a rehearsal studio in New York, at your home, or virtually.

I first picked up a trombone when I was 12, and have not put it down for the past 18 years. After being awarded an “Excellent Player” Award by the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society which led to the opportunity of performing with a professional Jazz Band, performing with a number of honor bands in middle and teaching at a music camp 3 summers of high school career. I decided to pursue music in College. I received a Bachelors of Music Classical Trombone Performance from California State University, San Jose. I’ve been performing professionally for 7 years and have played in every genre I could get my hands on (Classical, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Musicals, Ska, Electronic).

The classes are structured around my own interests (specific songs, breath control, body technique, etc.), and she’s always ready to answer questions. I don’t have any formal background in musical theory, but I’ve been able to still learn so much from her. I should also mention these classes have been a god-send for my public speaking (I don’t lose my voice anymore and can project easily now).
Rachel is easygoing and has been flexible with me and my schedule changes (you just have to give her some notice). I would definitely recommend her to anyone just starting out like I did—she’s experienced, knowledgeable and professional. :)

I no longer cringe when my child offers to sing for me - in fact, it's enjoyable to listen to her now! My child now claps and sings in beat and with a crowd - something they weren't working towards but has clearly come from this work. It is amazing how much she grew throughout this period not only in singing but also in acting and stage appearance. Hello! I'm Miguel, I have been playing the guitar since I was eleven years old and have not stopped since. I specialize in rock, blues, funk and acoustic guitar but I enjoy all sorts of music and playing as many styles as I can find. I graduated from Berklee College of Music and I also play Bass Guitar, Accordion and I am a music producer as well. My main hobby other than music is sports of any kind, I am a fan of Soccer (Manchester United), Basketball (Boston Celtics) and Football (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) however, I also enjoy superhero comics and action movies.
