I have been singing in public since 1976 (professionally since 1993).

I use a very practical and simple approach. I like to teach the natural voice.

I am an energetic, efficient vocal coach and performing artist. I hold a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Peformance; with my training, I have the ability to teach effective vocal techniques at every skill level. I am known for taking an engaging, therapeutic and creative approach to my teaching style by incorporating the student's input to include fun activities or stress management techniques. I make sure that my students are at ease during my sessions which will allow them to tap into their "sound" and sing with passion. I am also serious about their vocal development and set an individual plan to make sure each student's goals are met.

Ms. S. has a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Eastern Michigan University and has performed with regional opera companies. Singing is a complex coordination of breathing, phonation, resonation and articulation, overlaid with musical and performance layers. Classical singing also requires an acting component, as intent alters and influences the sound.

I have been teaching for 8 years, directing choirs of all ages, teaching in music classrooms, and working with students one-on-one. In my studio, I use my knowledge of the voice, repertoire, and styles to meet the needs of each student. I love to sing music in the classical repertoire, but I work with students on a variety of styles, from original songs to arias. We will apply the principles of healthy singing to whatever styles of music you are interested in singing. I am passionate about helping my students reach their goals, while also helping them become stronger musicians. My love of singing has made me a life-long musician, and that is a love that I strive to foster in all of my students.

"I can't sing." That's something I hear from a lot of people when they find out that I'm a singer. My response: EVERYONE can sing. That's why I teach singing with three easy basic concepts: Breathe, Imagine, and Trust. Breath is the foundation of singing on which all other elements of healthy technique are based (vowel, enunciation, phrasing, etc.). Imagine is all about learning what's possible with your instrument, and Trust is what allows your body to make your Imagination a Reality. Whether you want to sing in your living room or in front of thousands of people, I'll work with you to make sure you have the technique and the confidence to do so.
