Oboe:
A family of double reed woodwind musical instruments, they are usually made of wood, but there are also oboes made of synthetic materials. The Oboe is commonly used in concert bands, orchestras, chamber music, film music, in some genres of folk music, and as a solo instrument, and is occasionally heard in jazz, rock music, pop music, and popular music. I will begin by teaching the basics of breath control, apeture, fingering, the reed, notes, rhythms, reading, songs, theory, and soloing.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

*Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, please note I am only accepting students for online lessons until further notice*

I have 10 years of experience teaching oboe and customize lesson plans for my students. I focus on listening, musicality, and technique. My lesson plans include a warm up geared to establish a solid daily routine, technical studies, a piece from oboe literature, and sight reading duets. I also teach reed making and recommend students learn to make their own reeds if they intend to play oboe beyond high school. I believe that good, new reeds are critical to a student’s success-both for tone and embouchure development.

About Linnea

I am a freelance oboist, reed maker, and music teacher in the Seattle area. My teaching studio is currently based in Everett. I have eight years of teaching experience and love working with students of all ages. My primary instrument is oboe, but I also have a passion for teaching beginning viol

Phillip was an excellent oboe teacher for our middle school daughter. He determined what was causing problems with her instrument and was very focused on helping her with her band assignments.

I am a double reed (oboe and bassoon) specialist and have played both for over 16 years. I tutor the double reed students at Hughson High School and Ross Middle School during the school year. Proper oboe embouchure, technique and selection and adjustment of reeds is something most public school teachers overlook. Trust a specialist!

I teach oboe primarily through the tried and true Rubank method and the Ferling studies. Students will learn how to properly care for the instrument, how to read music, music theory, instrument technique, practice techniques, ear training (how to play by ear), reed adjustment, and repertoire. I also employ custom exercises specifically for oboe to help my students progress the fastest.

About Kyle

Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. Teaching private music lessons is my primary job, so I have much experience and wisdom compared to teachers who teach "on the side." Students of all ages stay wi

Kyle is a great piano teacher! He is very patient with my 12-year old son. Just yesterday he referred to him as “fun Kyle” because he teaches him small songs on the side that he can show friends and family or are for upcoming holidays. He’s always punctual and respectful of our family and home. I’m grateful to have found him!

"Rina taught my son oboe lessons for two years. She was the perfect mix of being approachable, friendly, knowledgeable, and serious about teaching oboe. When I was looking for a teacher I was especially concerned that I find someone who would go beyond teaching how to play the notes, and would get deeply into the technique - the real details of articulation and all of the performance points specific to the oboe. My son always ended lessons being motivated to practice and enjoying the experience. He also mentioned that he learned more in a single lesson with Rina than in months with other teachers. I recommend Rina as an oboe teacher without reservation."

"My daughter wanted to learn the oboe to complement her clarinet playing. We found Angela on this site and took a chance despite the limited reviews. Angela is awesome. My daughter loves her and she has learned a lot over the several lessons she has had with her.

Angela's location is in the heart of Koreatown, which means an abundance of great food and tea nearby if you need to kill time waiting for your child's lesson to complete. But it also means that it's really hard to park. It's worth figuring out the parking situation though, for a teacher this good."
