Hi there!
Would you just like to learn a few songs on the piano, violin or guitar? Or you'd like your child be become next Joshua Bell or Evgenij Kissin? My lessons are designed with each individual student in mind. I will start my lesson with introduction and proceed with warm-up routine. I always make sure that the student is comfortable with the pace that I am offering. I am mixing elements of music theory, history and performance techniques in order to help my student to embrace the beauty of music making experience. All my students are ready to perform at the recital after just 3-4 months of lessons.

It was my first lesson and now I have some idea how hold the violin and the bow. My homework is to practice a few notes on each string and then to practice playing the A scale. I think I can do it in two octaves. What is challenging is to play the scale without hearing a screeching sound. I'm looking forward to playing like Sarah Chang (hopefully after five lessons).

Shannon is an active musician, who has been featured as a soloist, and in the flute and woodwind sections with various orchestras, chamber ensembles, opera orchestras and musical theatre within the United States, Italy, and Mexico. She is presently Principal Flute of the Baytown Symphony, Director of the Da Capo Chamber Ensembles, and is a substitute musician with the Orquesta Sinfnica

Shannon has been a faculty member at various colleges, is currently Adjunct Professor of Music at Brazosport College, and also has an active private studio, Leigh Studios. She is the College Music Society South-Central Regional President; and is an Advisory Board member for the Houston Flute Club.

Shannon received her Masters of Music degree in Performance from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She also studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and received her B.A. degree in Performance, and B.S. degree in Music-Business from Winona State University, and has studied with world-renowned instructors.

Shannon has received grants for her work, from the Minnesota State Arts Board, American Federation of Musicians, Rome Festival Orchestra, and the Winona Music Guild, and was the 1997 recipient of the Vivian Menees Nelson Music Award.

I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :)
I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. About Cory
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even
if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

Beginning band lessons on bassoon using the school's chosen method book

About Todd
Music is my life, and is something that I want to share with others! Because of that, I try my best to give positive experiences to all of my students. I have a byline that says "Music is Much More than Just Learning Notes." I believe that! Anyone can learn notes, fingerings, etc. What I try to do is add that "soul" element that each person has and cultivate that into meaningful music!

So, with all that said, here's what I try to instill:

A lesson is a place to share! I listen to students as well as teach. We all have something we can learn from each other!

While I want lessons to be fun and informative, I strive for complete understanding, which means any student will gain the needed mechanics with complete knowledge of why things happen and what they do to and for music. From there, I attempt to teach the "soul" of mu
sic and how emotion and spirit play a huge part in memorable music.

I don't believe in brow-beating, but I also don't want to pass over things. I don't believe practice makes perfect, but I do believe practice increases awareness!

I really try hard to help students move beyond the notes on the page. We may listen to music and describe how it makes us feel, or paint pictures both physical and mental of what the music is showing us. That is where I see the soul stepping in.

My Education

As stated before, I started on a little Magnus Organ. My grandmother told me years later that I would listen to television jingles and then try to play them on the organ!

Once we settled in our permanent home, my parents brought home a piano and I began working first with Robert Warnick, a local music teacher in the schools. He taught scales and chords. Then, Midge Bishop took me through John Thompson Grade 3, but then had to move away. Finally, I studied under Victoria Hope, lasting 13 years until I went on to college. She taught me the fine art of piano by continually challenging me to approach each piece as an artwork. She had me use the music to paint the picture. Naturally, the element of the soul came through as I put color to music.

My Experience

Throughout my elementary through high school days, I immersed myself in band, choir and drama. I played piano at church starting very young. I then began trombone in the band during 4th grade. Upon entering high school, I joined choir and participated in marching band, concert band, pep band and jazz band. During those years, I picked up the rest of the brass instruments as needed by my band director. In choir, I excelled both in voice and on piano through accompaniment. Later in high school, I joined up with the drama department where we ultimately had the opportunity to write our own musical. By the time I entered college, I had mastered all the brass instruments, piano and snare drum.

During college, I participated in the marching band, wind ensemble, jazz band, pep band, trombone choir, several pit orchestras, and the symphony orchestra. I also participated in the choir.

Since that time, I have mastered the woodwinds, organ, drum set guitar and bass guitar and a little violin. I have over 25 years experience teaching lessons. They occurred off and on throughout my younger days.

I ask lots of questions so I can get to know you better. This is also an opportunity for you ask questions of me. At the beginning, I encourage parents to attend so they can see what these lessons entail. I give you assignments to work with and then you play them for me to receive praise and constructive suggestions. I also try to challenge my students to move beyond the normal curriculum to play other things that interest them.

Depending on the instrument and the experience you have helps me determine what curriculum I want to use. Again, I cater my lessons to the needs you have and by how you like to learn!

After 3 to 6 mos, I hope you have a good working knowledge of how music works and are now moving into intermediate level work. However, each student is different and work a different speeds. My main goal is for you to feel successful whenever you leave my studio!

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

I am a double reed (oboe and bassoon) specialist and have played both for over 16 years. My instrument of choice was bassoon in college and I continue to play for community orchestras. I tutor the double reed students at Hughson High School and Ross Middle School during the school year. Proper bassoon embouchure, technique and selection and adjustment of reeds is something most public school teachers overlook. Trust a specialist!

I teach oboe primarily through the tried and true Rubank method and the Ferling studies. Students will learn how to properly care for the instrument, how to read music, music theory, instrument technique, practice techniques, ear training (how to play by ear), reed adjustment, and repertoire. Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass,weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

My son's first 2 lessons with Katie were very positive experiences. Katie is patient and kind and very efficient with the lesson time. As a beginner, there is much to know just to get the proper sound out. When my son's tone is not quite right, she tries to problem-solve with him to ensure proper technique, use of the reed (or simply, how to correctly put the instrument together). Katie knows how to use the video screen effectively so that my son can clearly see her fingerings. She has provided him tasks to work on in between lessons and is willing to help him with his school band music. She has even offered to be available to answer questions in between lessons. This is our first experience with online lessons and it is as good an experience as it can be when not in person. We highly recommend using Katie if you are learning bassoon.

I'm a bassoonist and woodwind doubler based in the Las Vegas area. I am available to work with all ages and of any skill level, including beginners, intermediate students, and amateur adults. Many bassoonist switch to bassoon after starting on another woodwind instrument. Being a woodwind doubler, I am more than happy to facilitate the transition to the bassoon for students looking to learn.

Students receive the guidance they need in an individualized lesson plan that is unique to each student. I work with the student to determine and set goals that we will work towards through our lessons.

I received my Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Wyoming, and I am currently pursuing my Master's in Multiple Woodwind Performance from UNLV.

Matthew is a bassoonist and woodwind doubler located in the Las Vegas area.

Matthew has performed with or been a part of multiple ensembles including the University of Wyoming (UW) Symphony Orchestra, the UW Wind Symphony, the UW Jazz Ensemble II, the Flatirons Community Orchestra, and the KKΨ & TBΣ National Intercollegiate Band. As part of these groups, Matthew has been able to perform and work with reknowned composers, soloists, chamber ensembles, and conductors including the Boston Brass, Julie Giroux, P.D.Q. Bach, Clint Ashlock, Gerard Schwartz, and many more.

Matthew’s primary bassoon instructor is Kaori Uno-Jack. He has also taken masterclasses with Dr. Brian Jack, Dr. Yoshiyuki Ishikawa, Dr. Saxton Rose, Dr. Kristen Wolfe-Jensen, Darrel Hale, and Dr. Susan Hess. His primary saxophone instructor is Dr. Jennifer Turpen. His primar
y clarinet instructors include Dr. Blake McGee and Dr. Mara Plotkin.

As an educator, Matthew has upwards of five years of experience working with students in the public schools, at the collegiate level, and in private lessons. As a student at the University of Wyoming, Matthew taught the bassoon section of the woodwind methods course to undergraduate music education students. He student-taught in a small school district in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming where he taught K – 12 students in general music, band, and choir. Matthew has served in staff and counselor positions at different summer music camps including the University of Wyoming Drum Major/Leadership Camp and the University of Wyoming Summer Music Camp. Students that have taken private lessons or coaching with Mr. Fox have gone on to receive superior ratings at solo/ensemble festivals.

Starting in August 2017, Matthew will attend the University of Nevada – Las Vegas pursuing a Master of Music in Multiple Woodwind Performance. Matthew graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2017 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education.

Matthew currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada with his wife, Allison Fox. They are recently got married this summer and are ready to begin their lives together in Las Vegas!
