I focus on creating a safe and free sound. Alignment is the basis a great technique. Each person is different, and knowing how to help them release unwanted tension is critical.

The vocal folds are the core of the sound, and must be given the utmost care and consideration. Proper hydration is essential. They are also muscles, that need strengthening exercises and time for them to change. This will improve your vocal endurance and range. As a highly trained voice teacher, I can hear if the vocal folds are behaving in a healthy and efficient manner. It is essential that your teacher understand how to care for these delicate components of the human voice.

Vocal resonance is how opera singers are heard without amplification. It can be enhanced through awareness and coordination of the various portions of the vocal tract. There are two main components that help magnify the sound. The pharynx, also known as the throat, and the soft palate. Having an open throat and lift ...

RE: Advanced Classical Singers (College and older...and in some cases High School)

ALL CLASSICAL SINGERS after time will slowly chip away at all languages and classical styles. It depends on the level. Fach presentation is important. We will pick out relevant arias that reflect this. Mozart, Bel Canto, French, German, American Opera etc; (ARIAS only).

For some, we will want to have a mix of arias and art songs in Italian, French, German and English (minimum).

Having representation in all languages is important so you are ready for any audition requirement.

RE: Young Classical Singers (Middle School-High School)

Serious classical singers of all voice types will work from the 24 Italian Arias book.

Other repertoire depends on voice type & development expectations/goals.

Young sopranos will get some Debussy Chansons as it sits quite a bit higher & it's great for technique. With young mezzos, we will find pieces that address the chest & mixed voice head-on. ...

As an inexperienced singer, Mary is helping me find my voice, and so far, I love it! She is very clear and concise when it comes to teaching, and there is a level of expectation when it comes to practicing, which I love, as it holds me accountable for my progress.

Very good introduction. Looking forward to next week.

I am a college student going into my first year as a music major and Mary has been extremely helpful! I started voice lessons coming from a choral background and Mary was able to help me better understand the qualities of my voice and helped me make my technique more consistent. She has also recommended many great arias and pieces for me to work on to expand my repertoire. Overall, I feel much more prepared for college and confident as a vocalist due to these lessons!

"It's my pleasure to recommend Tania as a voice teacher without reservation. I had the pleasure of working with her as her accompanist/vocal coach for several years while we both lived in Florida. Tania possesses a beautiful soprano voice, is quite a talented actress and is quite facile with French, German and Italian diction. She's an excellent teacher; I've had the pleasure of hearing some of her students sing. If you're looking for a voice teacher, Tania would be an outstanding choice."

"Michelle and Robert are amazing! I've been taking voice lessons for only about two months and can already see the improvement in my voice, especially my high register which was pretty much non-existent. Unlike other voice teachers I've had in my past who string you along endlessly with no progress, Michelle and Robert truly, truly care ... they want their students to learn proper technique, and to excel and achieve their goals. And the results are quick. I can't say enough about Michelle and Robert. Definitely 5 stars!"

"Olga is very passionate, patient and persistent voice teacher who strives to bring the best in her students. My daughters 10 and 12 started taking lessons with Olga an year ago. We saw phenomenal difference in both of their singing abilities in just few classes. Moreover my 10 year old daughter passed with flying colors ‘The certificate of merit -level 3’ exam and got selected to sing at the MTAC convention. Thank you Olga for your persistence and hats off to your patience. If there is tiny bit of constructive feedback it would be to seek help on organization skills, but being a mom myself I totally can discount that for your caliber of music."

"I have had the opportunity to both study voice with Emilia, and observe her direct the children's choir at a local church I work at. Emilia is like a ray of sunshine and children just seem to gravitate towards her. She is very patient and encouraging and is able to connect well with her students. Having studied voice myself many years ago I decided to refresh my skills by studying with Emilia. She was able to pin- point some bad habits of mine right away and help me to overcome several obstacles I had been having with my voice. I highly recommend Emilia Lopez-Yanez to any prospective student, she is a delight to work with."
