I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development. Great start. Ryann learned a lot already. She can’t wait to return.
As a professional opera singer and recitalist, Rachel uses her first-hand experience in the business to guide her students and to teach them healthy vocal technique. Her students find her to be energetic, warm, and one of her biggest goals is to make her students feel more empowered when they leave than when they arrived. Music is a transformative art form and she hopes to enrich her student’s lives.
Learning proper singing technique is essential for the health of singers of all ages and genres. And YES! Everyone can sing! Rachel personalizes each lesson to her students' needs and provides a safe and fun atmosphere that is essential to creative learning. Musicianship, better intonation, breath control, support, tone quality, freedom of sound, and a love of music are all topics covered in voice lessons.
Rachel S. is a Lyric Soprano that hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In July, she portrayed the role of Mother in Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel with the Miami Opera Institute. This fall, she recently worked as a Resident Artist with Utah Opera.
Last spring, she completed her Master’s of Music at Rice University, under the instruction of acclaimed voice teacher, Dr. Stephen King. There, she performed the role of Lady Billows in their 2014 production of Britten’s Albert Herring. Rachel made her operatic debut with Rice University in their fall of 2012 production of Volpone as Celia. With Rice University, she was also featured in their scenes programs as Mimi from La Bohème, Ilia from Idomeneo, Rosalba from Florencia en el Amazonas, and Mrs. Fiorentino from Street Scene.
Rachel has performed extensively with the Aspen Opera Theat
er Center. Last summer, she understudied Sybil Vane in Loehmann’s The Picture of Dorian Grey. In 2013, she performed the role of Suor Osmina in their production of Suor Angelica, and covered the roles of Fortuna and Venere in their production of L’coronazione di Poppea. She also portrayed Pamina, La Contessa, Ilia, Anne Truelove and Laurie Moss in their various scenes programs.
Rachel completed her Bachelor’s of Music at Mannes College in 2012. There, she performed in their Opera Scenes Workshop and their Rise of Modernism Festival, singing Canciones populares Españolas by Manuel de Falla.
She is an amazing instructor and I have already seen my improvement after the first lesson.

Rachel was great! She made me feel very comfortable and taught me so much about singing in the short time that we had. She is extremely knowledgeable about the human voice in general and teaches about proper technique that will not only boost your confidence but will keep you singing down the road. Definitely would recommend for all skill levels!
I like finding learning styles/approaches that best-fit an each individual student. I feel it is important that students feel comfortable asking questions and voicing concerns.
As an teacher/Instuctor: I believe it is important students feel they can communicate openly and honestly during lessons. As with many learning processes, singing requires practice, patience, determination, and enthusiasm!
As a singer/performer: I enjoy singing in a variety of 'classical' genres including Opera, Art Song, Early Music, and Broadway. While the majority of my performing experience centers in opera and music theater, I also enjoy solo recitals, chamber music, and choral performances.
Background: Originally I'm from Columbus Ohio. I obtained a Bachelor of Music at Ohio University, and a Master of Music at Texas Tech University. When not singing or teaching, I enjoy tai chi, meditation, making natural soap, cats, and being outdoors in nature.
As a bass opera singer and professional voice over artist, I am dedicated to creating a healthy and beautiful sound with my own voice and the voices of my students. I will not come into our lessons saying there is a single way to sing. In fact, many genres require a great deal of varying vocal techniques and stylized voices. What I will do is help to lay a foundation in healthy singing so that you feel comfortable singing any genre. We will start by ensuring that your breath and vowel placement feels comfortable and from there move into repertoire of your choosing or some that I recommend based upon your interests. You will leave your tenure with me empowered to continue your passion and career for singing long after your lessons end. Music is meant to be shared. Together, we will help you to share the music and passion that you hold so dear.
Hello, my name is Matthew F. and I am a professional opera singer based out of Philadelphia. As a current roster musician with Philadelphia Opera, I know what it means to perform at some of the highest levels houses in the country. My travels have taken me across the country, singing in over 20 productions in the last three years. Now, I am returning back to Philadelphia to teach full time as I once had. Previously a student teacher at the Masterman School, I have had a true passion for music education for as long as I have been a musician. My students have grown both personally and musically through our tenure together. This is because I offer lessons that not only grow your singing ability but help to enhance your comfort for performance, public speaking, and general engagement in the production of sound. Through our lesson plans, you w
ill even begin to see changes in how you speak as our core focus will be on breath control, vowel placement, and healthy vocalizing so that you may feel comfortable singing any genre of music. While we will focus on classical training, I want to work with you on whatever repertoire you’d like! If you’re preparing for your school’s musical, a great karaoke with friends, or just some fun shower singing, I will get you there.
I just started with Matt today! He seems great, and I'm looking forward to continuing our lessons!

Matthew has been excellent! He took the time to get to know my goals and really understands what I’m looking for. After just a few lessons, I’ve learned a lot about opera/classical singing from the ground up and have already developed a much deeper appreciation for singers. I can’t recommend Matthew highly enough.

"Brittany works hard to train her students well. She is herself a well-trained musician (I've heard her in multiple concerts) who is committed to producing
students who not only sing accurately and with good technique, but also with musicality. Brittany is gentle and loving with children and seems to know what "works". Brittany has always been very professional in her work (dress, punctuality, politeness, etc.)."
"The first lesson was a pleasure as Madeline is a well versed and engaging teacher."
"Holly is simply magnificent! She's incredibly talented and a wonderful teacher. My daughter took lessons from Holly for six years and had much success.
She placed in All State, Governor's Honors and Honor Choirs. The best part was when she received a scholarship for vocal performance, all four years of college (undergrad)! Now, she's studying for her master’s degree in vocal pedagogy and performance. Holly's influence went beyond vocal performance skills, she's a mentor and role model to her students. We have so much respect, admiration and love for Holly. I enthusiastically recommend her!"
"I'm having a fantastic experience with Randy. I am a lifelong musician- have studied Jazz guitar, classical guitar and voice- he's a great voice teacher-
very positive, and I feel I am progressing with him- I am more confident in my upper register, and he's helping to claim my singing voice!"
"Pedro Tirado is a gifted, insightful voice teacher/coach. He knew exactly what was hindering my vocal development and how to correct it. His explanations
were clear and on point. Within only a few lessons my voice was significantly healthier, it was bigger and more flexible. He got me to sing up to an E6, five notes I didn't know I had after a lifetime of choral singing, mostly as a soprano. Although I had taken voice lessons before, I made more progress in three months with Pedro Tirado than I made in an entire year with another teacher. If you want to uncover your voice's full potential, go to Pedro."
"I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Melissa. She is one of the most helpful and fun teachers out there! I was able to grow so much as a singer a
nd there was a huge difference in how I came to her and how I am now. I am working on pieces that I loved but never thought I could sing. She is really good with technique and shaping you into a better singer though working on the foundations of what makes a good singer. She is very knowledgeable. Not only was every lesson a great time but I left with something gained! Lessons can be challenging sometimes but they were always fun and I always felt encouraged and supported to do better. Also, she is very flexible as I often had a busy and changing schedule and we were always able to figure something out!"
"Wonderful teacher. Could not ask for more."
"Excellent! My son took lessons for two years with Ms. Holly and improved a lot!He got into GHP Singing and GHP Sight Reading every year, the latter only
has about 50 students that can pass each year in the whole GA state."
"Great instructor. Got me too understand pacing, breathing and projection very quickly."
