I am an experienced, enthusiastic music instructor, who started playing piano around 8 years of age and participated in many musical activities. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Massachusetts, majoring in Music Education (voice and piano). I have appeared around the world as a soloist singing jazz and pop, including the Blue Note, NYC, and appeared as a guest soloist at the 2000 Southern California Summer Special Olympics. I also participated in ensemble groups such as the Masterworks Chorale in NYC, and the Verdi Opera Chorus of Southern California; and currently I volunteer at the Senior Center leading/accompanying the Sing-Alongs.

Inspired by my love of music, I have been teaching piano and voice for over 25 years from NY to LA and now Orange County. In conjunction with my teaching skills, I have

Upon our first meeting, the instructor gave my 12 year old daughter several breathing and vocalizing exercises to do at home for additional practice. Amber also quickly identified my daughter's vocal range and guided her on how to utilize various techniques to bring out her singing voice properly, patiently explaining the why's and how's behind each technique. Amber is also able to provide criticism/correction in a warm and positive way that the student is not left feeling embarrassed nor discouraged. We are looking forward to more lessons with Ms. Amber!

Reading the detailed "About" section below should give an aspiring singer all the information relevant as to how and what I teach, with regard to vocal performance and technique. I was classically trained as a vocalist, and from that training I was able to incorporate the various musical nuances necessary to navigate the world of Classical Voice. About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. Now we're getting into blocking and developing the physical aspects of a character. I'm learning a great deal and Glenn's patience and encouragement make him the ideal instructor to learn and grow. LESSON DETAILS

Whether you are a parent looking for instruction for your child, or for yourself, Rachel can customize the right program that best suits your needs. Her students come from all walks of life and have different goals, but they all have one thing in common. They love performing and have the desire to be the best at their chosen craft (singing/acting).

Some students want to sing/act for themselves, others want to sing/act for a hobby, and others want to be professional performers. That's where Rachel comes in. No matter what your goals are, she can help. Rachel teaches her students how to become true artists without tearing them down and without taking away the part of them that makes them unique. She teaches healthy technique that is based off of the human anatomy; the science of how the body/mind works and how the body/mind can work as efficiently as possible while singing or acting.

Learning how to sing/act is a process and doesn't happen overnight. Rachel's ultimate goal as a teacher is to not only make her students the best performers and singers they can be, but also give them all of the proper tools they need to have a more productive mind frame and become self-sufficient. Of course this can take years to master. It takes time and dedication.

OTHER LESSON INFORMATION

SINGING: Bel Canto singing technique for the modern singer is taught in private and group classes. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. Students are allowed to choose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student doesn't enjoy the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student. Gain a better tone quality, complete control of your voice, bigger range, more flexibility, and confidence. Learn healthy voice technique, how to fully take care of your own voice so you can sing for the rest of your life (even after lessons), and become a self sufficient performer for life.

ACTING: Stella Adler, Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and Meisner Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera is taught in private and group classes. All students are exposed to each technique and Rachel sees which technique each student responds to the most. Once the student and Rachel are able to identify the technique, Rachel continues to use the terminology of that technique for the remainder of the time the student is in lessons. Students eventually are able to play roles truthfully and realistically, even if the roles are opposite of the student's own personality.

BY THE TIME STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM LESSONS:

1. Gain a lifelong, solid, consistent, and healthy technique that they can always count on in practice and performance.

2. Gain specific technical and personal notes in a notebook and/or computer file that is organized and always accessible for review.

3. Gain artistry, performance skills, and a strong voice that will look/sound authentic; Singers will sound appropriate to whatever style of music they are singing. (No fake sound or look.) Actors will just be in the moment and truthful whether they are on stage or in front of the camera.

4. Gain the confidence to always put on a great performance.

5. Gain focus and a more productive mind frame.

6. Become self-sufficient by knowing how to assess a problem and then fix it without creating a new issue.

We specialize in Bel Canto voice technique for the modern singer. Each student can sing all genres without sounding too classical, "fake", and without losing their voice while singing for long periods of time.

STUDIO POLICIES-

CANCELLATION: 48 hour lesson cancellation policy and emergencies (determined by me) are handled on a case by case basis. If the student needs to miss a lesson due to an other activity or vacation, they or their parents/guardian if under 18, must contact Rachel Menconi at least a week from their next scheduled lesson in advance to prevent from forfeiting the lesson.

MAKE UPS: Make up lessons will be scheduled when time allows. No make up lesson or class will be given to ‘no shows’ or late cancellation, and no extra time will be given to students who are late to their lesson or class. If there is ever a time Rachel Menconi is running late, extra time will be given to make the lesson a full 60 minutes. If Rachel Menconi needs to reschedule, a make up lesson will be scheduled as close to the same week as possible. Make up lessons are scheduled at Rachel Menconi’s discretion.

ONLINE LESSONS FOR IN-PERSON LESSON CLIENTS: In the event that the student is sick but still would like their lesson, an online lesson can be scheduled instead. Students can NOT come to their in person lesson sick, coughing, sneezing, with a runny nose, cold, flu, “allergies”, fever, etc. (This is to make sure no germs will be spread).

An online lesson can also be scheduled if there is bad weather, if a student is having car trouble, or any other reason for the student not being able to physically get to Rachel during their normallly scheduled lesson time. Online lessons are conducted through FaceTime, Google, Hangouts, or Skype.

SCHEDULE:
Lessons are weekly, on the same time/day of the week unless we have rescheduled or we have discussed in writing another lesson plan. If the student’s lesson falls on a holiday, we will either reschedule or if no other day is available, resume the following week.

LATENESS:
If a student is going to be late they need to contact Rachel Menconi as soon as possible, to let her know they will be late. Lessons will end on time unless she is able to extend the lesson due to a late student or her schedule allows for it though please understand, Rachel Menconi would be extending a courtesy and would not be obligated to do so. If on the rare occasion Rachel Menconi is running late, she will always make up the time.

SITTING IN:
Parents/Guardians are ONLY permitted to stay for the first lesson and are NOT permitted to sit in for any other lesson/class unless invited. This is to promote good/strong teacher-student relationship quickly and easily. Also, many times students feel more comfortable when their parents/guardians leave.
Of course there will be times when the parent will be invited back in at the end of some of the lesson to showcase progress.

My 9 yr. old daughter received singing lessons with Rachel. Rachel was SO wonderful, patient, and creative with every session with her. She was constantly coming up with different ways to keep her engaged and was always reassuring her to increase her confidence. Overall, very impressed. She is direct and doesn't tell you something you want to hear. Her evaluation process is well rounded and planned. She puts together a great curriculum to know what to expect in the coming lessons. Very easy going person and makes you feel completely comfortable at the initial lessons.

GENERAL: I enjoy getting to know my students and their specific interests and quirks, and incorporating those into lessons to help folks better connect with and get excited about the material. I specialize in confidence-building and will be with you every step of the way as you not only gain skills, but perhaps face and overcome some emotional barriers or frustrations. I like to make lessons playful, fun, and relevant to how you want to use these tools in the world.

SINGING AND MUSIC LESSONS: In addition to providing technical training, I believe that singing is about liberation and expression, and have had successes in helping students to find their unique voices through overcoming vocal anxieties. I both work with students who are preparing for auditions and who play in professional bands, and also with students who have only ev
er sung in the shower and just want to get more comfortable using their own voice for fun. I also specialize in teaching music theory (including how to read music, rhythm practice, and harmony), playing an instrument and singing at the same time, and songwriting coaching. I degree in music from Brown University, have been a professional, performing musician for 12 years, and have been teaching private lessons and classes for 8 years.

For those in bands: I specialize in harmony and can do consultation sessions with you and/or your band to help with blending, finding harmonies that work for your respective vocal ranges and for the flow of the song, and teaching skills for finding and building harmonies.

MATH: As a middle and high school student, I didn't believe I was "good" at math. It wasn't until I was an adult and was hired as a math tutor - and later promoted to Assistant Director - of a tutoring company that I realized that was a belief that had held me back. Many kids and young adults struggle with confidence around math, and having had experience with that myself I use tools that help meet students where they're at and support them in building enthusiasm for math and confidence in themselves. In addition to providing tangible math skills (I have not only been tutoring Algebra, Geometry, SAT prep, elementary and middle school math for 5 years, but have also helped run a math tutoring company in which I built year-long curricula for grades K-12), I help students feel that math is within their grasp and can be approached with curiosity rather than fear and low self-esteem.

I had no idea when we signed up for SAT prep lessons with Julie, the level of help we would get. Julie went so far above and beyond what you would expect a tutor to do. During the lessons, she was always incredibly encouraging and focused. She explained things in a way that just made more sense. And then in between lessons, she sent problems like the ones we had trouble with to help solidify what was learned. She sent links to other sample problems and communicated regularly about the progress being made. I couldn’t rave enough about Julie!

It was such a pleasure working with Julie! I'd never taken a singing lesson before and Julie made me feel super comfortable. She encouraged me to keep trying when I felt like I was messing up, gave me tips and tricks that worked for me, and also kept it fun! :)

I’m sure most people realize how hard it is to be so vulnerable in front of another, or worse, a group. And that is how singing was for me. I was scared beyond belief. My introduction to Julie was amazing. I felt 100% at ease and comfortable the second I walked through the door. She just has this incredible positive energy and warmth, that you can't help but feel comfortable to be yourself and ready to be open in front of a stranger. For me, this was the biggest step. Once we started singing (if you can call what I was doing that :) she never made me feel uncomfortable or bad about my voice. Just the opposite, encouraging, reinforced by smiles and laughing together. Her exercises are easily comprehensible and she puts everything on paper or in a recording so it's simple to follow for homework. She also helped me learn harmonies on songs my band was doing and created a bunch of fun exercises/games to learn harmony. If you are looking to take singing to the next level, whether starting out or stepping up your current range, Julie is a wonderful instructor and I would highly recommend her to anyone. One of these days I'll convince her join my band :)

About Lia
I am a professional jazz vocalist, voice teacher, session singer, and bunny mom. I grew up around music and have loved to sing for as long as I can remember. I believe that exposure to music is the best way to learn how to do it. My parents are both singers so, naturally, we sang together around the house, in the car, etc.

I believe this exposure is what gave me the drive to become the performer and teacher I am today. Hands Down. I started out singing show tunes with my dad and classic rock/rock with my mom. I taught myself how to play guitar in middle school and this is when the solo-performer in me really started to develop. High school gave me choral music and folk/pop and college gave me jazz. Jazz is my main gig. I have been singing jazz music since 2010 and transformed into a full fledged jazzer along the way.

I'm a female heavy metal singer and took 12 years off to raise a family so I needed help with pitch, power, control, strength, and development with my upper range and Lia delivered. What I was not expecting--and was pleasantly surprised by--was her additional instruction on adding more emotion through specialized breathing techniques and helping me move out of my comfort zone and attempt to tackle much tougher material. For someone so young in years, she is an old soul and has so much amazing experience to teach from. I've also seen her perform live covering extremely difficult songs and was blown away...even brought tears to my boyfriend's eyes when she sang his song request perfectly. I did not know her prior to my lessons. I met her randomly by emailing my local music store and inquired about lessons. She is worth every penny and I highly recommend her.

I truly love being a part of their journey furthering their love for music and helping others find their voice . Throughout my singing career I've been involved in state vocal completions, multiple choirs, musical theater, acapella groups, background singing and having a blast singing with live bands. Hello All!

Vocal lessons are about so much more than just learning to sing a scale correctly. When teaching I love to see my students gain self confidence, knowledge, passion and grow from where they started.

I enjoy all genres of music and love exploring many different vocal techniques to adapt to each genre and tune. My love for music stems from growing up in a musical family, my mother playing flute and my father being a vocalist and an actor. I started sing at 5 years old and began taking lessons myself at the age of 6 years old. Growing up I found that music has so many layers and while in college getting my degree in Social Science I also learned to compose music and work in sound design. Besides singing and teaching I also work for a music publishing company which keeps me update on the constant changing world of music.

I am a current student at California State University Fullerton studying Vocal Performance. I am Latino American, currently 19 years of age, and I am respectful of people from all backgrounds. I am friendly and great with children as I have four nephews of my own who I frequently babysit.

I started singing around the age of 7 by first listening to my mother sing to me as a child and then singing those tunes to myself later or hearing the radio play every Saturday mornings as the whole family would get ready for the weekend festivities and family gatherings. Singing has been a part of my life that has had inexplicable effects on everything else I do. Although I am still trying to perfect my own instrument, I want to share what I know with the world and with people of any age so that they too can discover the beauty and awe inspiring abi
lities of the human voice and specifically, of their own voice.

**FREE LESSON**
The first lesson I have with a new student is free and within that first lesson my objective is to first get to know the student and then progressively get to know their voice on that first day and in turn that student can see if they enjoy the voice lesson or not.

**Cancellation Requirements**
I expect at least a 72 hour notice in advance when cancelling a voice lesson either by e-mail or phone.

**Age Requirements**
For students ages 17 and below, a parent may choose to stay and observe the lesson, if it is in their best interest.

Coachella Valley resident, Ana, is a performing soprano beginning new endeavors at University of Redlands. Eager to learn and discover new musical lines of knowledge, she will pursue a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Dr. Susan Mohini Kane. While studying at CSULA, Ana was cast in Hydrogen Jukebox, Die Fledermaus as Rosalinda, and CSULA’s original opera Expectation. She has also been a soloist for choral ensemble works such as Vivaldi’s Gloria, Pergolesi’s Magnificat and Benjamin Britten's Missa Brevis. She has had the honor of partaking in the Angels Vocal Art opera intensive summer program in Los Angeles in 2017, under the direction of Kristoff Van Grysperre.

In her final year as an undergrad student, Ana worked for Saturday Conservatory of Music, a no
n-profit music school organization, as Lead Vocal Coach and Choral Director. Additionally, she carried on the role of choral librarian and assistant to the choral director for her university. She also became a crew member for the theater department, and student assistant for the College of Arts and Letters office. All while being stage manager and performer for the university’s opera.



Prior to Ana’s studies at CSULA, she decided to embark on a new journey and pursue a music degree at College of the Desert. While at COD, she was cast in the school's production of Les Miserable. For a few semesters, she became an enthusiastic “choral-ographer” for the jazz singer’s ensemble. While attending her community college, Ana was awarded an internship for two years with California Desert Chorale, where she has been invited to sing for several fundraising events, including the most recent benefit concert for Eisenhower Medical Center, Songbirds and Showmen and the 25th anniversary concert for the chorale, Let Music Live!
