I've been teaching the bassoon for over ten years, and I love it. It is my main instrument as a performer, and in the last few years I've specialized in helping students switch to the bassoon from other instruments. Whether you've never seen a bassoon or you're preparing for a professional audition, I can help you with the intricacies of this wonderful instrument.

About Cory
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even
if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instruments and music.

I have been playing the bassoon for 14 years, and have extensive experience in a wide variety of ensembles, including orchestra, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist. I believe that we each experience music in our own way, so I try to relate the music to you in a way that is personal to you. We will work through standard method and etude books to improve literacy, technique, and musicality, and then apply these concepts to repertoire that inspires you and that you want to play.

I am a double reed (oboe and bassoon) specialist and have played both for over 16 years. My instrument of choice was bassoon in college and I continue to play for community orchestras. I tutor the double reed students at Hughson High School and Ross Middle School during the school year. Proper bassoon embouchure, technique and selection and adjustment of reeds is something most public school teachers overlook. Trust a specialist!

I teach oboe primarily through the tried and true Rubank method and the Ferling studies. Students will learn how to properly care for the instrument, how to read music, music theory, instrument technique, practice techniques, ear training (how to play by ear), reed adjustment, and repertoire. I also employ custom exercises specifically for oboe to help my students progress the fastest.

About Kyle
Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. Teaching private music lessons is my primary job, so I have much experience and wisdom compared to teachers who teach "on the side." Students of all ages stay with me a long time because I am very flexible in my teaching and know how to interact with many personalities and learning styles, producing great results and progress. My specialties are piano, woodwinds, and music technology (i.e. recording and production). You can find more information about me and what I do at caseymusicservice﮳com.

Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass, weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

My beginning bassoon students will learn bassoon playing basics, care, as well as how to read music. Basic music theory will also be taught (time signatures, note durations, etc.). Students will learn technical skills as well as musical skills in a comfortable, fun environment. :)

About Elyse
Hi, Everyone! Thank you so much for taking a moment to read my blurb! My name is Elyse, and I can't wait to meet you! I've taught music in small ensembles since July, 2007 by helping out marching bands. It was so much fun! Teaching and music are my biggest passions.

**If you're going to make a mistake, make a loud one!!**

I want my students to know right off the bat it's okay to make mistakes! My philosophy is: You make mistakes. Mistakes don't make you. :) We fix them and learn together.

I have classroom taught since 2010 - General Music and Choir. I have been teaching private lessons since 2014, and I have absolutely LOVED helping my students read music, excel at playing or singing songs that they enjoy, and seeing their happiness and excitement when they realize how much they have achieved.

In 2009, I graduated from Kent S
tate University, located in Kent, OH, and I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I'm definitely a fun-loving, outgoing person, and my teaching style is tailored to my students; a think-outside-the-box style, and hands-on.

Let's get together, reach for those stars, and grab your goals!

My son's first 2 lessons with Katie were very positive experiences. Katie is patient and kind and very efficient with the lesson time. As a beginner, there is much to know just to get the proper sound out. When my son's tone is not quite right, she tries to problem-solve with him to ensure proper technique, use of the reed (or simply, how to correctly put the instrument together). Katie knows how to use the video screen effectively so that my son can clearly see her fingerings. She has provided him tasks to work on in between lessons and is willing to help him with his school band music. She has even offered to be available to answer questions in between lessons. This is our first experience with online lessons and it is as good an experience as it can be when not in person. We highly recommend using Katie if you are learning bassoon.

I played bassoon in concert band all throughout college and have a degree in Instrumental Music Education.

About Dana
It has been a dream of mine for a long time to be a full-time piano teacher. I have been playing piano since the age of five. Teaching is in my genes, both of my parents teach special education. My father is a music nerd as well! He shared his joy of music with me and I want to pay it forward.

Some of my strengths include patience, humor and compassion for others. I want to figure out what makes you tick. What do you want to learn about piano? I am always looking for new and exciting ways to teach piano. Did you know they make color by note coloring books? At the end of the day if I can share even a fraction of my love for music with you and you are able to learn something, that is what gives me true joy.

Lesson content depends on the individual student, as I structure our time together depending on individual needs. Lessons can be relaxed or fast-paced, depending on what you desire to get from them.
All lessons include some combination of warm-up, scales and basic exercises, and solo literature appropriate to level. For more advanced students, we will discuss basic theory and ear training.

About Alyssa
Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

I'm looking forward to working with you!
