One of my favorite instruments to teach-- I often say that my specialty is convincing people that they should play double reed instruments! Generally seen as more of a challenge, double reeds like the oboe can be frustrating for beginners, but don't worry-- I can guide you through any troubles and help you learn this beautiful instrument.

About Cory
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even
if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instruments and music.

I can help beginning students on oboe learn the basics.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

About Bonnie
Bonnie started piano at age 4, clarinet by third grade, and oboe in the 8th grade. In High School, she played oboe, bagpipes, and saxophone in the jazz band winning the Best Jazz Soloist Award. She also won the Young Artist Competition and played with the Tampa Symphony. While attending USF, she continued to perform with the Tampa Symphony and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then attended the University of Michigan and received her Master of Music degree and performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and many chamber groups in the area.

In 2003, she created the Pop Oboe series with 4 CDs, a member of the Recording Academy and had her cds on the Grammy Nomination list.

Now in the Orlando area, she is a freelance musician and has performed at Universal, The Museum of Art, The Winter Park Art Festival, and many mor

In 2012, she created a piano curriculum that uses animals to teach note reading and piano. Creating this curriculum makes learning music FUN!

Bonnie did a great job with my daughter. She had just taken up the oboe during the school year and we wanted to keep up her skills during the summer. Bonnie was great helping my daughter learn additional oboe techniques that will help her when she returns to school. I was very impressed with Takelessons and the convenience of doing lessons in our own home. Bonnie was very flexible with our summer schedule too.

My 6 y/o daughter just started studying piano this summer 2017 for 30 minutes/session a week and I am so pleased for her progress. She can now play simple songs like happy bday, twinkle twinkle, jingle bells, lullaby, hornpipe, swan lake and she's currently learning " Largo" from the theme song of Little Einstein. Everyday, she's getting better with her finger coordination and ability to read notes. Miss Bonnie has been using animals with the piano notes for my beginner daughter to easily read piano notes. She's very good in encouraging, engaging and teaching beginners to learn how to play the piano! I highly recommend her to all piano enthusiasts out there:) Thank you Ms. Bonnie for patiently teaching Danielle!

I am an adult who has no experience with any type of instrument and was very nervous and intimidated at first. Then I met with Michael, and though there was a ton of information we had to go through, he really made me feel at ease. He has the knowledge, patience, and understanding I was really looking for in a teacher and I'm so happy I found him!

My goal is to help my students use the oboe as an expressive outlet through focusing on technique, performance strategies, and musical-emotional development. I hold a B.A. in Oboe/English Horn Performance from Canisius College, and have studied under renowned oboist, Anna Mattix of the Buffalo Philharmonic, and Euridice Alvarez of the Eastman Community Music School. I meet students at their level, and tailor my lessons to each student's individual interests, skill, and goals. I recognize how intimidating music performance can be, and teach skills to overcome performance anxiety, and help students realize that music is more about having fun, and less about being perfect.

About Daniel
My primary goal is to make music a fun, stress-free, expressive outlet for my students. I hold a B.A. in Music Performance from Canisius College and have extensive performance and teaching experience in concert band, orchestral, musical theatre, and chamber ensembles. I have served as principal oboist of the Canisius College Concert Band and Canisius College Chamber Orchestra, as well as served on the faculty of the Community Music School of Buffalo, and the Canisius College tutoring center (as a music theory tutor). Currently, I am pursuing a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Oswego, specializing in emotional struggles faced by musicians, including performance anxiety, stage fright, muscle tension, and fear of emotional vulnerability. My students will gain confidence in their performance ability, learning not only the techni
ques of their instrument, but strategies to reduce performance anxiety to perform music as it should be: fun, expressive, and moving.
