This instrument may sound like a duck at first but with a little instruction and practice can be a beautiful instrument. This is also great if you are looking for a scholarship to either high school or college.

I have been playing and teaching oboe for over 35 years. Many of my students have gone on to play in universities with scholarships, but more importantly have developed a love of music. I was the founder and co-artistic director of an award winning chamber group having two on-going subscription series. Within the first few lessons you will be able to read musical notation, understand basic music theory, and play simple songs. Depending on your ability, I will choose the right method book for you. I love working with students of all ages and can't wait to meet you!
My teaching style is relaxed, but highly structured. My former students made great advancements with my guidance. However, no advancement can be achieved without the student putting in the necessary time at home to practice their instrument.

I specialize in the all levels of oboe students! Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Not only will you be performing in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of reed making, note reading, sight reading, technique, and more. Let's get started!

I have over 10 years of experience teaching oboe and customize lesson plans for my students. I focus on listening, musicality, and technique. My lessons include a warm up geared to establish a solid daily routine, technical studies, a piece from oboe literature, and sight reading. I also teach reed making and recommend students learn to make their own reeds if they intend to play oboe beyond high school. I believe that good, new reeds are critical to a student’s success-both for tone and embouchure development.

The oboe is an amazing instrument! The oboe is unique because it uses a double reed.. I am so excited to teach you more about the oboe I am an interactive teacher who can assist you in many ways in regards to learning how to play the oboe including; correct posture, new breathing techniques, correct fingerings, alternative fingerings, half-hole technique, improved sight-reading skills, greater music theory knowledge, and performance skills. I recommend using the Essential Elements for Band book series. Once we connect and I can find out more about your playing level we can find the perfect book for your. I hold a Master's Degree in Oboe Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. During my studies I studied with Carolyn Hove and Humbert Lucarelli.
