Hello!

I have my Bachelor's degree in Music from Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon. I can make and adjust reeds, to best help my students produce a sound that they are happy with. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree at Longy School of Music, in Boston.

Lessons can be as relaxed or fast-paced as they need to be, I take a very individualized approach to meet the needs of each student's abilities. I love to give my students choices in their musical path- making music should be fun and enjoyable! Despite that, we still get to business when we have to.

Let's make some music together!

Oboe:
A family of double reed woodwind musical instruments, they are usually made of wood, but there are also oboes made of synthetic materials. The Oboe is commonly used in concert bands, orchestras, chamber music, film music, in some genres of folk music, and as a solo instrument, and is occasionally heard in jazz, rock music, pop music, and popular music. I will begin by teaching the basics of breath control, apeture, fingering, the reed, notes, rhythms, reading, songs, theory, and soloing.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

Although the oboe can be a difficult instrument at times, I always found joy each and every time I picked up my instrument to play and I hope to pass along this enthusiasm to my students. I believe in building a solid foundation through long tones, scales and etudes to build endurance and train the ears to recognize intonation and intervals. At the same time, lyrical solo works helps support the students musicality and phrasing. I believe a healthy balance of both will put any student on the right path toward progress, while also building confidence and enthusiasm.

About Lindsey

I am Lindsey, a professional freelance Oboe/ English Horn playing in Boston MA. I have been playing oboe for 19 years, in which time I have won numerous solo competitions, studied with world-renowned oboists, and performed internationally. One of my favorite instruments to teach-- I often say that my specialty is convincing people that they should play double reed instruments! Generally seen as more of a challenge, double reeds like the oboe can be frustrating for beginners, but don't worry-- I can guide you through any troubles and help you learn this beautiful instrument.

About Cory

I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!). I

Clare could not be more supportive, patient, and willing to facilitate changes to schedules. If you are new to this instrument, or already proficient, you will have a nice experience under her instruction. I am an adult student, and I have unique challenges. She has accommodated me in a way that has motivated me to write this review without her asking me. That should tell you something.
Layla
Clare is not only a wonderful oboist but a wonderful oboe teacher. She takes the time to put technique first which made a huge difference in my playing. I would definitely recommend her as a teacher!
Todd
Clare is a wonderful oboist who plays with emotion and that same energy transfers into her teaching.

"Grace was on-the-dot punctual, and had me play what I could for her. Right away she locked in on my intonation, which I have been having problems with. She asked several questions, which was a good thing. She followed up with a printed list of things for me to work on. All this was done with a pleasant gentleness which has me looking forward to the next lesson."
