Ali has had music in her life since she was in the crib. She has performed professionally in the musical theatre world and she has studied in several universities for Musical Theater, Jazz, Pop, Blues, and R&B. Since the age of sixteen, she has been selected to sing as a guest soloist for venues such as Spivey Hall, Georgia World Congress Center, and Georgia Tech Hotel Conference Center. Ali has also sung for many movies and recordings, and recently recorded a demo for David Foster, Barbra Streisand, and Andrea Bocelli and recently toured as a pianist for "The Women of Ireland." She is a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music and earned her BM in Music Business and Vocal Performance cum laude studying under Magi Scott, Jeff Ramsey, Jerome Kyles, and Carolyn Escoffrey, Donna McElroy, Livingston Taylor, Joan Lader, and Charlie Sorrent

Ali is also known for playing piano. She received her minor in Piano Performance within a year at Shorter College under Helen Ramsaur. She has been playing since she was five years old and has accompanied many people and musical productions.

Ali loves to share her passion of music to the world and especially through her students. She loves to share new ideas and nuances along with the basics and fundamentals of technique. Although practice can be boring for the student, asking a student to pick at least one song to work on can help the student and the teacher have fun and learn at the same time. After a few months, not only will her students have fun, but they will learn how to be a better person and musician.

One of my favorite instruments to teach-- I often say that my specialty is convincing people that they should play double reed instruments! Generally seen as more of a challenge, double reeds like the oboe can be frustrating for beginners, but don't worry-- I can guide you through any troubles and help you learn this beautiful instrument.

About Cory
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even
if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

After learning the basic symbols of music notation, breathing, and simple rhythms the students will continue learning the techniques and fingerings on their chosen instrument. My background in acting also contributes basic vocal projection techniques to vocal training. I am comfortable with all genres of music, including pop, rock, soul, R&B, gospel, jazz and opera. In instrumental studies, I am a woodwind doubler, reading fluently and transposing on-the-spot . As a jazz and gospel artist I improvise primarily on the flute and saxophone. My piano skills are equivalent to a second-year college piano major. I can improvise accompaniments as well as read piano scores. In addition to being a certified teacher in Georgia, I attained national certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2004.

My daughter has truly enjoyed having Letha as a clarinet teacher. She has been able to strengthen and improve my daughter's tone, scales, posture, transitions between low to higher notes, and overall technique. This has led to her improvement and enjoyment of the school band. Letha's teaching style has fit well including providing positive feedback on the spot. 'Having Letha come to our house is also a great benefit to our schedule.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

Dr. Carl S. will be teaching at Oklahoma State University as a Lecturer of Saxophone and Music Theory during Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert's sabbatical beginning August 2017. His responsibilities included Assistant Director of the KU Jazz Festival, directing Jazz Ensembles II-III, directing Jazz Combo III-VI, assisting with the KU Jazz Festival, directing Saxophone Quartets II-III, teaching private saxophone lessons, assisting in saxophone studio class, and teaching the music education woodwind methods course. His Lecture Recital Document, A Performer’s Analysis of Selected Jazz Works for Saxophone Quartet, featured an interview with Bob Mintzer. Carl was a member of KU Jazz Ensemble I, KU Saxophone Quartet I, and KU's Helianthus New Music Ensemble. As a member of KU's Jazz Ensemble 1, Carl has performed with Dave Douglas, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Alex Sipiagin, Steve Owen, Gary Foster, Steve Houghton, Clint Ashlock, David von Kampen, Peter Epstein, Jeff Miley, James Miley, Roger Shew, and Brian Hamada, Brandon Draper, Rich Wheeler, Beau Bledsoe, Jeff Harshbarger, and Matt Otto. In July 2014, Carl went on a European tour with KU Jazz Ensemble I featuring Steve Leisring and Deborah Brown. Together, they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Vienne Jazz Festival in France, and performed in several cities in Germany. Recordings by this band resulted in KU winning the DownBeat Student Award (Graduate College Large Jazz Ensemble Division) in 2015.

While at OSU, Carl was a GTA for the saxophone studio and music theory programs. His responsibilities included Music Theory I-IV tutoring and grading, sight-singing grading, piano labs, classical and jazz saxophone lessons, saxophone quartet coaching, saxophone studio Webmaster, and saxophone studio class. Carl was a member of the OSU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1. He had a regularly performing jazz trio and played in OSU's X2End saxophone quartet. The X2End quartet performed locally at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Washington D.C., at the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and has won the state and division rounds of the 2010-2011 MTNA Chamber Music Competition. The X2End quartet went on to win the 3rd place prize at the national final round of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. They also were the Division II Chamber Ensemble winners at the 2011 Hubbard Music Competition where they were awarded the 2nd place prize in the overall finals. Carl's final degree paper at OSU was a study of composer/performer collaboration. He traveled to Texas, Michigan, and Ohio to interview saxophonists and composers including David Dees, Peter Fischer, John Sampen,Marilyn Shrude, Joe Lulloff, and Charles Ruggiero. He has presented his lecture at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and the 2012 OSU Single Reed Summit. As a member of OSU's Jazz Ensemble 1, he has performed with Bob Sheppard, Conrad Herwig, Wayne Bergeron, and Andy Martin.

While at SWOSU, Carl performed as a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, Jazz Ensemble A, saxophone quartet, and his own jazz combo named Five-Seven. As a member of SWOSU's Jazz Ensemble A, he has performed with Dan Haerle, Bob Bowman, Jack Mouse, Fred Forney, Janice Borla, Eddie Daniels, Pamela York, Lynn Seaton, Carl Allen, Dr. Michael Cox, Tom Williams, Dr. Robert Chambers, Dave Hanson, Drori Mondlak, Delores Williams, Byron Stripling, Frank Wess, Kenny Drew Jr.,Dennis Mackrel, Bill Watrous, Rich Eames, Jennifer Leitham, and Randy Drake.

At the 10th Annual SDSU/Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival in 2015, Carl directed SDSU Jazz Ensemble I's premier of Dog, Tired by David von Kampen.

​Dr. Carl is a Conn-Selmer Endorsing Artist. He hosted the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 3 (ND, SD, NE, MN, IA) Conference at South Dakota State University on March 17-18, 2017. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Carl performed Dreams in the Dusk by David Biedenbender with South Dakota State University's Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Jacob Wallace. On Monday, February 6, 2017, Carl will be performed the premiere of Lhotse for alto saxophone and percussion by Steve Danyew with Dr. Aaron Ragsdale.

I am a double reed (oboe and bassoon) specialist and have played both for over 16 years. I tutor the double reed students at Hughson High School and Ross Middle School during the school year. Proper oboe embouchure, technique and selection and adjustment of reeds is something most public school teachers overlook. Trust a specialist!

I teach oboe primarily through the tried and true Rubank method and the Ferling studies. Students will learn how to properly care for the instrument, how to read music, music theory, instrument technique, practice techniques, ear training (how to play by ear), reed adjustment, and repertoire. I also employ custom exercises specifically for oboe to help my students progress the fastest.

Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass,weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

Hello!

I have my Bachelor's degree in Music from Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon. I can make and adjust reeds, to best help my students produce a sound that they are happy with. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree at Longy School of Music, in Boston.

Lessons can be as relaxed or fast-paced as they need to be, I take a very individualized approach to meet the needs of each student's abilities. I love to give my students choices in their musical path- making music should be fun and enjoyable! Despite that, we still get to business when we have to.

Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

I have taken oboe lessons myself for six years from many different teachers. I have been able to compile the best attributes of each of my teachers to make me the best teacher possible. Throughout middle school and high school, I was continually the top player in my section. I participated in many other ensembles outside of school, including regional band/orchestra and the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra. My senior year of high school, I was awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award for exemplifying superior musicianship and leadership. I only teach beginner/novice players at the moment, so I am able to focus solely on how best to help beginners progress and reach specific goals that will take them to the next level in their musicianship.

About Sophie
I have always loved making music. Every chance I've gotten, I've been involved in an ensemble, or many ensembles. During marching band season in high school, since oboes can't march, I was on the color guard. This allowed me to obtain a lot of leadership and teaching experience. The way you teach music is similar to the way you teach and practice a color guard/dance routine. I've also had many great mentors that helped me learn the best ways to practice and how to teach someone else how to practice; tools that I pass to my students.
When I started college, I was a music major in the oboe studio. However, I ultimately determined that my greatest passion was helping people pursue a healthy life, but music is still very dear to me. I am now majoring in integrative health at Arizona State University, but I practice with and perform in the co
ncert band on campus. I've always had a passion for helping others learn more about and gain a greater appreciating for music. I firmly believe that listening to and making music possesses healing qualities and I love for my students to find that for themselves.
