Oboe Lessons in Lithia. Amazing Teachers.

I am a double reed (oboe and bassoon) specialist and have played both for over 16 years. I tutor the double reed students at Hughson High School and Ross Middle School during the school year. Proper oboe embouchure, technique and selection and adjustment of reeds is something most public school teachers overlook. Trust a specialist!

I teach oboe primarily through the tried and true Rubank method and the Ferling studies. Students will learn how to properly care for the instrument, how to read music, music theory, instrument technique, practice techniques, ear training (how to play by ear), reed adjustment, and repertoire. I also employ custom exercises specifically for oboe to help my students progress the fastest.

I have been teaching oboe lessons for seven years, and although the oboe is a difficult instrument, I believe you can learn to have a good sound early on with the right instruction! I am a professional oboist who loves sharing the fun of oboe with others. All experience levels are welcome and lessons will be catered to your needs and feedback on what you want to be able to play. I put a lot of emphasis on good tone, technique, sightreading, and some music theory. I really do look forward to working with you!

I am an experienced teacher and performer. I have a Doctorates degree in music (Yale, University of Southern California, and University of Texas at Austin). I have been teaching kids and adults for more than 10 years. Anyone wanting to play the oboe is welcome! I have over 10 years of experience teaching oboe and customize lesson plans for my students. I focus on listening, musicality, and technique. My lessons include a warm up geared to establish a solid daily routine, technical studies, a piece from oboe literature, and sight reading. I also teach reed making and recommend students learn to make their own reeds if they intend to play oboe beyond high school. I believe that good, new reeds are critical to a student’s success-both for tone and embouchure development.
