Jessica is an amazing teacher! A few months ago I was having trouble learning the ukulele and I decided to start lessons with her. It was a great decision because ever since then I have learned way more than I could on YouTube! She is everything you want in a teacher, so helpful, supportive, fun, easy going, and kind. Kevin is wonderful to work with. Very knowledgeable, very calm, pleasant personality. He wanted to know first what I wanted to do, but was prepared to start me with the basics - scales - which is where I want to be proficient, so that I can master the instrument. I have no doubt that I can do that with Kevin. Just spent a few minutes practicing my C-major scale using the L-R-R-L-L method. Works great! I just checked email and he'd sent me the printouts he promised. Looking forward to next week!

Mariano was an amazing percussion and drum set teacher. His lessons were engaging and productive, and he was always able to communicate an idea or musical concept in a way that I was able to understand and connect with. After about 2 years of lessons I was accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts for percussion and I owe my success to the lessons I took with Mariano. I continued lessening throughout high school and my skill level contined to grow. What I loved about Mariano's teaching was his unique ability to take very simple exercises and make them more difficult and therefore much more beneficial. Along with stressing the importance of basic technique, he would constantly inteoduce me to new things - Afro beats, traditional grip, Latin beats, new ways to sight read, and 4 mallet marimba technique. I would highly suggest taking lessons with Mariano if you are looking for a fun, encouraging teacher who has lots of experience with a variety of percussion performance!

A modern pan is a chromatically pitched percussion instrument made from 55 gallon industrial drums that formerly contained chemicals. The pan is struck using a pair of straight sticks tipped with rubber; the size and type of rubber tip varies according to the class of pan being played. The student will learn the basics of notes,
reading, rhythms, how to play songs, theory and improvisation.

Karen was not prepared for the lesson. She spent 15 minutes trying to send me photos from a beginner Tabla book available on Amazon. She did not own a set of Tabla drums. She ensured me she could teach anything, but could not pronounce the words used for proper Tabla technique, knew no history and could not even teach me to tune. She literally was reading out of the book figuring it out along the way. I lost a lot of trust from this and asked for a full refund for future lessons.

Drums are such a great instrument to start on. Having a solid foundation of rhythm goes a long way in music. It transfers to all the other instruments. I like to begin with the basics stick control and rudiments. Drumset is a great place to go after that or hand percussion such as djembe, conga, or hand drums. I also teach steel drums.
