It has been a delight taking lessons with Omar. The sitar is a foreign and old instrument, and Omar was very patient with getting me acclimatized to the instrument itself - all the nuts and bolts of putting the instrument together, tuning and playing the strings. Omar adapts very well to my pace of learning, and teaches with depth, instead of rushing through material. Lessons are always fun and easygoing, and I leave with not just technical knowledge, but with also a feel for the background and vibes of Indian classical music.

A plucked stringed instrument used mainly in Hindustani music and Indian classical music. The instrument is believed to have been derived from the Vena, an ancient Indian instrument. Besides learning how the instrument is held and plucked the student will learn how to tune, play and read notes, rhythms, songs and the basics of music.

Karen was not prepared for the lesson. She spent 15 minutes trying to send me photos from a beginner Tabla book available on Amazon. She did not own a set of Tabla drums. She ensured me she could teach anything, but could not pronounce the words used for proper Tabla technique, knew no history and could not even teach me to tune. She literally was reading out of the book figuring it out along the way. I lost a lot of trust from this and asked for a full refund for future lessons.

"There's not enough stars for Omar. Omar taught me Sitar, Guitar, Ukulele, Vocals and Indian Classical music. He is super patient, supportive, professional and tailors lessons to your goals. Plus he makes his own videos to support his students! I have never met a more passionate music teacher and his knowledge of music comes from all over the world.
I know someone who started taking lessons from Omar who couldn't afford more then the broken guitar he had. Omar traded him a guitar he BUILT for the broken guitar [and later on fixed it up].
If that's not enough because of Omar I've been on tour. No one else has been able to help me in understanding and appreciating music as much as Omar has."
