I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.
Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.
Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Fabulous! What a great teacher! And SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about all kinds of music! THANKS! looking forward to all my lessons!
Taught 41 years as a band director Principal Trumpet with Beloit/Janesville Symphony
I like to teach in a style that is functional and interesting. Students will be doing a variety of activities at each lesson. The focus will be determined by their needs.
As students become more proficient in music their enjoyment of musical activities will increase. The success of completing various levels of musical achievement will carry over to other lifetime skills.
*** Lesson Details *** I will work with each student depending on their individual needs. We will strive to produce steady improvement in player proficiency.
*** Travel Equipment *** Student should have a music stand and instrument
*** Specialties *** I like to teach based on the individual. I have taught group and private lessons. The materials I use are varied, with an emphas
is on scales, theory, and also some duet playing. I also like to incorporate some music history into each lesson. I feel that each student needs to work from known to the new areas. I often use supplementary materials (solos or small ensembles) to reinforce my teaching.
Kay is awesome. My daughter loved her. She is very patience and kept Victoria engaged.

Kay is very knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. She is very encouraging and never makes me feel dumb when I hit a sour note. (As a beginning beginner, that happens a lot!) I am amazed at how much I have learned in such a short time!
I played French Horn when I was a boy and now teach the standard French Horn in F plus the Double Horn in B flat. I specialize in the Mozart Concerti plus improvisation for working musicians.

My son enjoys his music lessons with Jonathan, who is infinitely patient teaching what can be a challenging instrument. My son responds well to Jonathan's instruction, and he appreciates having access to a professional performer as a teacher. Jonathan encourages my son to learn a variety of music, including both challenging classical pieces and more recognizable popular and jazz pieces, which helps to sustain his interest in the lessons.

This instructor is very helpful when learning new concepts and adjusts his lessons to match your skill level.
I have fifteen years' experience teaching all brass instruments. I will make sure you are playing music you enjoy while developing strong fundamentals with your embouchure and tone. Whether just getting started or preparing for that big audition, I can help you meet your goals!
I am a private music instructor with over 20 years’ performing and teaching experience. There is so much unique joy in playing a brass instrument, and it is my goal to help my students feel that joy! I tailor each lesson to each student's individual abilities and learning methods. For students in school bands, I try to provide lessons that complement what they learn in band class, focusing on areas of performance that may not receive attention in a group setting. For all my students, regardless of level or instrument, I try to find music for them to play that they are interested in learning while still covering everything they need to get a solid foundation on their instrument. I encourage and assist my students in finding opportunities to perform in solo performances and with other groups. I also pride myself in creating an environment w
here the students are comfortable asking questions to help improve their playing.
Over my teaching career, I have worked with over 200 individual students. Many of my students are not only successful in their bands but in regional honor bands and Solo and Ensemble competitions as well. While I now only teach part time, I have years of full-time teaching experience as well. When I was full-time, I worked directly with several Nashville-area schools, including the nationally-acclaimed Oliver Middle School band. When country musician Adam Sanders sought school musicians to accompany him at CMA Fest in 2018, 75% of the brass section was enrolled in my private lesson studio! Last year, competing against hundreds of students from all over the region, my students took second-chair trumpet and trombone at MTSBOA Mid-State.

Hired Kristen to help our son Eliot who was played French horn but was really interested in doing drum corps. I have to say, my husband and I eavesdropped on their lessons and Kristen really is a very patient and encouraging teacher. Our son was really happy and even I could tell he improved during his time studying with her. Would highly recommend.

Kristen was my horn tutor during my year of study abroad. I arrived in the country with one goal, to march in a drum and bugle corps for my age out year. It would be an understatement to say she really helped me make the most of my musical experience in the country.
I was really impressed. Kristen draws on the richness of her own performing experiences and she has a natural talent for teaching. I always left her lessons with fresh energy, a new challenge and just enough technical and musical direction to be pushing beyond my comfort zones as a musician.
I don't want to hammer the zero-to-hero story, but with Kristen's help I went from no marching experience, to marching on mellophone in a world class drum and bugle corps that summer. It was the most amazing year of musical development, both outdoors and in a solo and concert ensemble settings, and I owe a large part of that to Kristen for her supportive approach, flexibility and, of course, her expertise.
I should add, she's really relatable and I had great fun during lessons. 10/10 would take lessons again if I were in the right country!
A graduate of the famous Curtis Institute of Music, Lori A has played all over the world. She has played with greats such as Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Pavarotti, and Leonard Bernstein. After being invited to the White House, she performed for President Reagan. Lessons incorporate fun songs plus technique.
Hello! Thank you for your interest in my profile. I teach piano, horn, trumpet, theory & ear training, and coach ensembles, performance class as well as music and movement class for ages 0-6, and drum circle and cultural literacy for adults.
I am a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and I've played all over the world. I've played with soloists from Frank Sinatra to Diana Ross, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons to Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. I still perform and consider this important to my teaching as well.
Some major accomplishments include an invitation to the White House, over 50 solo performances with orchestras starting with The Philadelphia Orchestra at age 15, a performance for the Princess of Thailand, and early television performances starting at age 7. In order to accomplish these things, I had great teach
ers, a regimen of discipline and practice, an expectation I have of my students, and all the rewards that have lasted a lifetime. Properly taught music lessons are life lessons and are never a waste. I incorporate fun into the lessons as discipline and fun must be combined for success and enjoyment at all levels.
My teachers included Eleanor Sokoloff, Susan Starr, and Dale Clevenger.
I've taught for 29 years, and have a proven track record of success. I've taught at Universities including The University of Notre Dame, The University of Tennessee, The Chinese University and the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong. I adore my students. Each one needs to be assessed and taught differently. Something you cannot learn in school, only through years of experience!
I teach in Avondale-Kennet Square-Chaddsford, Hockessin-Wilmington,, DE, Newark, DE, with possibility of travel 10 minutes away. Please note: If you want in home piano lessons, you need a working instrument, and must maintain the tuning.
While I had previous experience playing an instrument MANY years ago, I never played the piano and started taking lessons with Lori as an adult. In almost no time I was able to read the bass clef (left hand) notes and within the year I had learned all the scales (majors and relative minors - both harmonic and melodic) and arpeggios (root and inversions). I was also playing "real" pieces of music.
Lori stresses good technique and good practice habits and can suggest more than one way to master a concept. She also makes learning the piano fun.

She taught me some important techniques on the piano.

I love working with my students. Watching them succeed at what they do is what makes my day great. I always love to have a fun atmosphere around me and enjoy every minute it. Music is great for self expression a great Escape or an easy pass-time. It's nothing that should be stressful, but the opposite and that is what my lessons aim to do. Provide an educational, but fun and expressive learning experience to carry with you or your child throughout your lives.

Hello! My name is Phillip M. and I have been playing the Horn for 15 years now. I started back in elementary school and haven't looked back since. After high school, I went to Central Michigan University where I earned my Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance while studying under Dr. Bruce Bonnell. While I was at CMU, I performed with the Symphony Band, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band, Horn Choir, and a Horn Quartet. I then went to Western Illinois University where I studied under Dr. Randall Faust and earned my Masters in Horn Performance. While at WIU I performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, and Horn Ensemble. I also played with several local organizations while at WIU including the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Monmouth Civic Orchestra, Quincy Community Theatre, and
the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. I also have solo experience and have put on a junior recital, senior recital, two graduate recitals, and I performed the Hindemith Horn Sonata with the WIU Symphony Orchestra as a Concerto Competition winner as well as participate in many horn studio recitals during my college career. I am willing and happy to teach all levels of musicians and I hope you consider me if you are interested.
Great first lesson with Phillip! Looking forward to many more.

Phillip was on time and professional, introduced himself and coordinated with us appropriately. His first lesson made our twelve-year-old feel comfortable and she really got a kick out of when he asked her what she thought SHE needed to work on. He did a wonderful job expressing her creative outlet and was very comfortable in the mechanics of the French horne. Would recommend any time!
"She was so great working with my pre-teen daughter. She was so good at answering my daughters French Horn questions and with finding those areas that she
needed added help. I love her personality and can tell this will be a great fit for my daughter"
"My daughter started French horn lessons a few weeks ago with James, and not only is he fantastic with her, she really enjoys it and is already making prog
"He wrote us a list of what Erik needs for music, he said that he is going to write some music as well, and recommended us to have our instrument tuned and
cleaned. He had his instrument out and ready to play with him when we arrived."
"Nathan is great. Very conscientious and patient."
"My son Garrett says "It was a great first lesson, and I learned more in this one lesson than I have in all of my school lessons so far this year!" Devlin
was a lot of fun and very patient, and we're looking forward to the next lesson. (Garrett is brand new to the French horn this school year). Thanks Devlin!"
"Great knowledge and kindness!"
"As a musician, Zac is above and beyond talented. Because of his proficiency and excellence, he offers great insight and helpful hints on how to play prope
rly and with support, two extremely important parts of being a musician. Lastly, it is quite obvious what music means to him. His passion is inspiring, and makes me want to continue to pursue and practice my instrument. His lessons helped me develop from a second part to a first part, enabling me to play higher and more challenging parts for my band. Knowing that I was able to leave better than I started makes myself feel lucky and appreciative that I was able to take lessons with a person like Zac. Overall, one of the best music instructors I have had the pleasure of working with."
"Miss Jennifer has been teaching my daughter french horn durning rhe last school year. She is very patient, goes over the music my needed to learn for UIL
