I have been a musician for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor of Music and have taught guitar for over 9 years. In addition to guitar, I'm a vocalist, composer and arranger as well as a music publisher. I actively perform as both a classical guitarist and singer-songwriter. I love teaching guitar and find it so exciting to see kids (and grown-ups!) learn an instrument and be part of the magic of creating music! The earliest age that I recommend for a child to start learning to read music is age 7. Learning an instrument teaches focus, develops self-direction and how to reach a goal, plus the added benefit of developing the brain for academic achievement. And, it's just plain FUN!! ***NOTES ABOUT SPECIAL NEEDS*** There are stairs to my home studio. Please take this into ...

GUITAR: I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week for at least a 1/2 hour per day. I use the Suzuki method for young students ages 8 to10. We continue learning basic folk songs by ear and then start reading standard notation and basic theory within 6 to 8 months along with classical guitar duets. For older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method. After 3 months of lessons students can expect to know the basic open position chords and strum patterns to some basic songs as well as some famous guitar riffs and also be able to read some basic melodies in standard notation. After 6 months students will be able to play a 12 bar ...
I started playing guitar at age 11, taking lessons at the local music studio in Hackensack, NJ. I became heavily influenced by The Beatles after hearing their music and as a teenager played in local rock groups, having some success being in the bands Jona's Ark and The Yorkshire Pudding, opening for artists Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, John Mayall and backing up Gary U.S. Bonds. I started playing piano at 19 when I took a group piano class in college. I attended Berklee College of Music and studied guitar with Bill Leavitt and Pat Metheny. That's where I started learning about all the great jazz artists from Duke Ellington to Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery to name a few. While at Berklee I also developed a love of the classical guitar and it's repertoire. After Berklee, I

My name is Chris B. and I've been playing music for most of my life. I started playing guitar when I was in my early teens and, like most kids, just thought it would be cool to play in a band and have fun. Along with my brother Jon (on drums), we immediately started to jam with some neighborhood friends and quickly honed our cover song skills. We then progressed towards writing original music and eventually formed a new band. As time went on, we both started listening to more complex styles of music and spent countless hours improving upon our playing chops to match the advanced techniques of our favorite musicians. The best lesson I've learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument, or ...
