Brian C. Mountain Lakes, NJ

Guitar is one of the most popular instruments around. From the electrification of the instrument back in the early 50s to todays high power screaming effects, Guitar lessons help develop an understanding of todays music using the classics of yesterday. The perspective guitarist may find that there is a learning curve that exceeds piano but with a little practice can excel quickly to become a phenomenal player.

About Brian

Brian has been performing for over 10 years. He is experienced in genres from hip-hop to classic rock, and delivers a style all his own. He is an honors graduate of Berklee College of Music with a dual degree in Music Production and Engineering and Music Business Management. Prior to Berklee, Brian was classically trained as a vocalist by Georgia Marandino. He fine-tuned his skills at Berklee with Joey Blake (performs with Bobby McFerrin). Brian learned guitar and piano from his father a semi-pro guitarist and an educator of educators. As a producer and sound engineer, Brian has worked with musicians spanning different genres and cultures including Grammy Award winning sound engineer Hector Ivan Rosa (Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, El Gran Combo). He currently offers voice, piano, guitar, ...

Cheryl C. Mount Tabor, NJ

Learn repertoire that ranges from pop to contemporary, fingerstyle, and jazz, with a bit of blues thrown in.

You can use a pick or fingers, learn to read music or tab, learn technique idiomatic to the guitar as a melodic or accompanying instrument.

We can explore song writing and recording as well!

About Cheryl

I have been a musician for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor of Music and have taught guitar for over 10 years. In addition to guitar, I'm a vocalist, composer and arranger as well as a music publisher. I actively perform as both a classical guitarist and singer-songwriter. I love teaching guitar and find it so exciting to see kids (and grown-ups!) learn an instrument and be part of the magic of creating music! The earliest age that I recommend for a child to start learning to read music is age 7. Learning an instrument teaches focus, develops self-direction and how to reach a goal, plus the added benefit of developing the brain for academic achievement. And, it's just plain FUN!! ***NOTES ABOUT SPECIAL NEEDS*** There are stairs to my home studio. Please take this into ...

Cheryl is an excellent teacher and I am so glad I started my guitar lessons with her. I have played guitar on my own for a few years but I felt stuck at my current level and wanted to expand my guitar skills. Cheryl is very patient and encouraging. The exercises she gives me are challenging but she teaches me everything I need to work on them and I am making so much progress. Cheryl is very knowledgeable about guitar and extremely qualified. I would strongly recommend her to any level guitar player!

Robert H. Cedar Knolls, NJ

As a teacher I am very patient with students and enjoy helping them reach their own musical goals. I emphasize knowing the basics and encourage students to study music theory and basic reading of standard notation. I always ask my students to bring in songs they want to learn as a way to motivate them to practice more.

*** Lesson Details ***
GUITAR: I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week for at least a 1/2 hour per day. I use the Suzuki method for young students ages 8 to10. We continue learning basic folk songs by ear and then start reading standard notation and basic theory within 6 to 8 months along with classical guitar duets. For older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method. After 3 months of lessons students can expect to know the basic open position chords and strum patterns to some basic songs as well as some famous guitar riffs and also be able to read some basic melodies in standard notation. After 6 months students will be able to play a 12 bar ...

About Robert

I started playing guitar at age 11, taking lessons at the local music studio in Hackensack, NJ. I became heavily influenced by The Beatles after hearing their music and as a teenager played in local rock groups, having some success being in the bands Jona's Ark and The Yorkshire Pudding, opening for artists Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, John Mayall and backing up Gary U.S. Bonds. I started playing piano at 19 when I took a group piano class in college. I attended Berklee College of Music and studied guitar with Bill Leavitt and Pat Metheny. That's where I started learning about all the great jazz artists from Duke Ellington to Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery to name a few. While at Berklee I also developed a love of the classical guitar and it's repertoire. After Berklee, I

Mr. Rob has been teaching my 6 yrs. old son piano for a few months at our home. He is reliable, patient, and an effective teacher. In a relatively short time, we were impressed at the progress our son had made. Our little one keeps a manuscript book with his practice assignments and has been able to play recognizable notes from children's songs with both hands. The 30 min. sessions are perfect for this age and go by both quickly and enjoyably. We are looking forward to more sessions and continued growth.

Robert has been reliable and patient with our 12 year old. I asked her opinion for this review and she said, "He shows me exactly what to do and makes it fun. I wish he taught my language arts class."

I find Mike to be a professional. His understanding of the mechanics of vocalizing is an asset and his easygoing manner of getting it across an asset.

I have been singing w/ bands now for about 15 years and Mike has helped me understand how to maximize my range and power. I would highly recommend Mike for anyone looking to learn to sing for the first time and/or anyone looking to improve on their existing talents.

About Chris

My name is Chris B. and I've been playing music for most of my life. I started playing guitar when I was in my early teens and, like most kids, just thought it would be cool to play in a band and have fun. Along with my brother Jon (on drums), we immediately started to jam with some neighborhood friends and quickly honed our cover song skills. We then progressed towards writing original music and eventually formed a new band. As time went on, we both started listening to more complex styles of music and spent countless hours improving upon our playing chops to match the advanced techniques of our favorite musicians. The best lesson I've learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument, or ...

I've been taking lessons from Chris less than a year (I think), and it has been a very positive experience. He is well-versed in many styles of music and has a excellent grasp of music-theory, which he is happy to share and apply to my style. I've been playing guitar for several years, and the fact that Chris will adjust his teaching methods to fit my style is invaluable.

On a professional-level, these lessons take place in my home, and Chris is super-punctual, and is never late, which helps with my hectic schedule. His communication is excellent, and he responds quickly to all messages via text and email.

Great experience. Great guy. Highly recommended.

I am a 64 year old woman who wanted to learn to play electric guitar blues lead. I have worked with musicians who teach and have been very disappointed. As soon as I read Chris' profile, I knew he would be a good teacher. I am a professional tutor and I could tell by the way Chris wrote about teaching that he would be skilled. I was absolutely accurate. Chris knows a lot about music and guitar playing, and he is also thoughtful and very present to the student. He is flexible and can move with a student who needs that. He also can work from a theory based place if the student needs that. To help me, he has written tab guitar licks for me, recorded Mp3 examples, and chord diagrams. I cannot speak highly enough about Chris as a teacher and highly recommend him.
