I began singing when I was five years old in church. I continued singing exclusively inspirational music until I was a teenager. At that time, in addition to the second soprano part I sang in a five-part harmony
a Capella (without instrumental accompaniment) Gospel group, I also sang in a couple of bands (Rhythm and Blues, and Jazz). My undergraduate studies were completed at the American University, where I majored in Communications (B.A.), and minored in Music, voice being my instrument. I teach and practice a classically-based technique that crosses over into many genres and styles of singing. Lessons are meant to make each student a better all-around singer. I ask a lot of questions in lessons because I want students to leave each lesson having learned something new, but also being able to evaluate their voice, and monitor progress between lessons.
There are many dimensions that have to be attended to while singing properly and we must simplify these aspects in order to focus on our true intent, to express ourselves.
It is my goal to not lose sight of this and to stay true to a student's unique instrument as well in the process.
