*** Lesson Details *** If you are just getting started, or if you already have some experience playing, there is always room to grow, and it is NEVER too late to start! I like to get to know the student in the beginning, using various methods that I used for my own development. Once I get to know the student's individual needs, I customize their lessons in order to accommodate their goals. I am a patient teacher, but I expect results.
I like to keep a fun and positive environment during my lessons. Practicing is really up to the student. I don't mind if the student wants to come in and play every week without practice, but we all know, that if someone wants to learn and develop on an instrument, practice is necessary.
I am able to teach Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet. As I mentioned before, I like to customize my lessons toward the individual student's needs, so I do not go by any standard method. I draw from materials that I've used in my own educational process, and I am always keeping current with modern trends in teaching. With my expertise in teaching, you will develop fundamental skills on your instrument, as well as general music skills, including music theory, sight reading, ear training, and improvisation. I am open to teaching all genres of music, whether it be jazz, blues, rock, hip-hop, pop, or classical. I am open and flexible.
Whether you want to start a new instrument from the beginning, or get better so you can win auditions/competitions, get into the school/regional band, or maybe you are just doing this for fun, I can definitely help you succeed!!!

Bram is inspiring me to continue playing the clarinet.
Bram is very patient and helped me to re-start playing the clarinet within only a couple of months. He addresses my weaknesses in playing nicely and with professionalism, is following my expectations about the lessons pointed out at the beginning and is inspiring and motivating me to play my instrument.

Bram has been a great teacher. He has patience and has been able to get my son quite far along in a few short weeks.
I work with beginners through intermediate students
Hello, my name is Cindy and I am a vocal and instrumental instructor. I received my BA and MAT degrees from Pepperdine University. I have taught privately for over 25 years in the San Fernando Valley, along with Pasadena and Simi Valley areas. During college I performed in several operas including The Magic Flute and Hansel and Gretel with the Burbank Symphony Orchestra. After college, I was a member of Musical Americans, a select touring group from Southern California under the direction of K. Gene Simmonds that toured South America and Japan. I also served as a minister of music at a loc
al church for several years.
I began playing the piano at the age of 7. My mother and sister were taking lessons and, when they had finished practicing I would go into the piano and play what they had just played. My mother figured that I was the one with the talent so I got the lessons. When I was 9, I became interested in the violin. Back in those days, it was required for you to take private lessons if you were going to be in the school orchestra. I started lessons on the violin while continuing lessons on the piano. I began taking voice lessons while in Jr. High and for a while, I took lessons on all three. I was also very involved with my church music department, which was very large and well known in Southern California. During college, I had the opportunity to participate in The Living Christmas Tree . This was a great experience, one I will never forget. I not only sang in the tree but was able to play in the orchestra for a couple of years as well.
Being a classroom teacher for over 30 years, I have had the experience of bringing the joy of music to hundreds of students. I put a strong focus on musical theory so that my students understand not only how to play or sing, but understand the WHY of different musical concepts. Presently I have students attending CSUN majoring in music. I have a love for music that has been with me since the age of 7, when I started taking my first piano lessons. I took private lessons on piano, violin and voice till I graduated from high school, continuing while I earned my BA and MAT degrees. I have experience with students of all ages, ranging from the young kindergarten student to the adult student. I believes that there is a hidden talent in everyone and that if there is a desire to learn, I can teach them!
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are designed to bring a maximum level of enjoyment while giving a strong musical theory foundation. Being a classroom teacher for over 30 years, I understand what a student goes through regarding homework during a week's time. I always take that into consideration when making assignments. I find out what the student's musical likes are and use those in selecting songs to work on with them.I use different curriculum, depending on the needs of the student and the instrument being taught. With the wealth of my experience I can teach and guide the student through any performance and musical interest they may have and bridge the gap between genre's that so many are unable to do.
I teach beginning and intermediate voice, flute, guitar, sax and clarinet. I am able to teach up to the advanced level for violin and piano. I enjoy working with all levels of students, from young children through adults.
*** Studio Equipment *** Living Room, room for parents to wait.
*** Travel Equipment *** They must have their own instrument. If they are taking piano, I am able to teach them on a keyboard that has at least 4 octaves. I have had great success with working with keyboards, especially with younger students. Students purchase their own materials. I will give you the names of the books and locations where you can buy them.
*** Specialties *** I am from the old school of thought and teach the basics with a great deal of theory thrown in. My students that have gone on to major in music in college have done very well because of the foundation I have given them.

Method of teaching is excellent! Cassidy has improved a lot... She picks up the guitar with a smile! I'm so glad we found Cindy as a teacher:)
My name is Ray - I'm 26 years old, born in Queens NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. Here I was also introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.
I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for over 12 years now. I can say with pride that it is my passion, and I antici
pate teaching being a very important part of the rest of my life.
I enjoy reading science, math, and philosophy, and in addition to teaching am currently working as a pop music producer.
*** Lesson Details *** I consider my music lessons unique because of 3 main reasons:
1. I have a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, considering it one of my native languages.
2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.
3. I have the patience to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for the individual.
*** Travel Equipment *** Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials upon my request. I can purchase them for you for full and immediate reimbursement.
*** Specialties *** Classical music is my training background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively fulfilling music. That said, I'm a big fan of pop music, and enjoy teaching students their favorite songs from the radio.
I have an extremely thorough understanding of music theory, and am happy to incorporate as much or as little of that as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to fully enjoy learning music and the instrument.

My son and daughter both take from Ray and they love him!!! My daughter started with him after she had had 2 other teachers and she improved immediately. She loves going to Ray because he teaches her to play the songs that she likes. Now she plays so many songs for memory!! My son loves going to piano and is always excited to see Ray.
Sebastián M. March 7, 2014
When I started taking lessons from Ray I was playing the electric guitar, although I had a classical guitar in my house I did not play it that often. I took my classical guitar once to class and then I started to learn how to play the classical guitar. I went from playing basic peaces of music to playing Minuet in G in a short time. From playing electric guitar about 3 or 4 years to playing classical music in about 1.5 to 2 years. Ray has helped me to increase my knowledge of music.
I've been teaching clarinet for five years now. I specialize in getting beginners started with good habits. Proper embouchure and hand position make all the difference in the world in how well a clarinet player will do as they advance. It's MUCH easier to build good technique from the start than to try to go back and break bad habits, so let's get started on the right foot!
I grew up in a music store, and learned a love for music at an early age. I started piano at age 3, and just kept adding instruments from there. I majored in music at MidAmerica Nazarene University, where I was on scholarship for Piano, Trumpet and French Horn. I have taught General Music, Beginning Band, and Beginning Orchestra in four LA area private and charter schools, as well as teaching music classes for home-school co-op groups in the Hollywood area. I've been teaching private lessons for nearly 10 years, taking students from ages 4-adult, from beginner to intermediate skill levels.
*** Lesson Details *** Music should be fun, and my lessons are geared towards keeping students engaged and excited. I've developed a very out-of-the-box teaching style that takes into account the student's learning style, interests, and goals. It's important for students to feel successful from day 1, and it's my goal to have each student playing a song by the end of the first lesson. We sing, move, and play our way through music!
*** Studio Equipment *** Casio PX-800 digital 88 weighted key piano personal instruments metronome tuner music stand
*** Travel Equipment *** Personal instruments metronome tuner music stand
*** Specialties *** Improvisation, Composition, Music Theory.

I can't say enough positive things about Megan. She works with both of my sons, teaching them piano. They have extremely different personality types and learning styles. It is amazing to see her adapt, creating the best learning environment for each of them. She has given them so much more than knowledge of how to play. She has given them a love for creating music.

Megan has been wonderful: Arrives on time, every time, and is super pleasant and most importantly my son is actually starting to play the trumpet! Couldn't have asked for a more talented and punctual teacher!
Learning the clarinet is often considered the gateway to being a woodwind master. the clarinet, saxophone, flute, oboe, and bassoon, are like siblings. Once you learn the clarinet, you can play anything else in its family.

"My music teacher is excellent
I am very glad to have found takelessons.com and connected with Thomas Cross. After a long absence from playing the clarine

"Have seen steady improvement in my musicality already
It has been more than 40 years since I played clarinet in high school. I did take piano and voice i
n college and have kept up with my music in community choirs. Now that I am retired I added community band to my schedule. The band is fun, but challenging , and I needed to up my game. With Cory's help I have been able to make measured improvements and find band rehearsals, lessons, and practice both enjoyable and rewarding. From the very beginning Cory recognized my fundamental weakness, breath support, and we work on it in a variety of ways each lesson. I enjoy exploring clarinet literature and bring a large sample of styles to each lesson. She is up to the task of finding what needs to be refined whether it is tonality, rhythm, articulation, dynamics, or pitch. Cory's vast music knowledge from her experiences has been helpful for me and should be helpful for you as well."

"Great teacher and musician
We had some difficulty locating a clarinet teacher for our 10 year old daughter and did not love relying on the internet but D

"Mary was amazing teacher for me, and she really sparked my passion for music. I had really just started clarinet when I began taking lessons from her, and
I truly believe one of the reasons I am going into music is because of how she made me see it. In the short time that I was able to be her student I learned more than just the fundamentals, and have yet to find a teacher that I work with as well as I did with her. If I could take up lessons with her again, I would in a heartbeat."

"I usually avoid doing reviews -- takes time I don't have. But I was very impressed with Tegan's approach with my son, which I witnessed in its entirety, a
long with her availability (easy to accommodate & then tweak again our schedule this summer, which was key). She's very patient while being precise, which is just what Paul -- who has ADHD & Asperger's, which means he's easily distracted -- needs. It was a good idea to make the first lesson a combined hour (to learn how to care for the instrument, moisten the reed, posture, where hands should be, forming the mouth, etc.). She knows the book Paul's school uses She was waiting for us with a parking pass (essential in Somerville). I feel really good about the prospect of Paul being able to "catch up" this summer with the first year school year instruction he missed out, given Tegan's focus & attention. One possible drawback for some others -- vs. my son & me, who value substance (where Tegan is outstanding) over appearances -- might be that Tegan's apartment is more like an early '70's hippie pad (cramped un-air-conditioned attic 3rd floor walk-up, with no place for me to wait during my son's lesson except scrunched up against an eave in the studio/ living room, 1 foot from their chairs, petting the friendly dog) than a more traditional dedicated studio in the home, as his piano teacher has."

"Alane worked with me when no one else would. I am missing part of my finger, so that creates an extra challenge when playing the clarinet. Alane helped me

"Asaf teaches my 14 year old son the clarinet. He is a wonderful teacher. From a parent's point of view, he is incredibly easy to work with in terms of sch
eduling lessons. He is professional, flexible and very easy to reach via telephone, text and email. My son really looks forward to his lesson each week and WANTS to practice between lessons. He says that Asaf is "very knowledgeable, kind and patient." If, for some reason, we need to miss a lesson, Asaf will check in with us during the week to make sure my son has enough to "keep busy." Asaf really seems to care about his students. In short, I highly recommend Asaf as a music teacher!"
