I have been performing on the horn for 15 years now. I graduated from Chapman University in 2010 with my music education and music performance degree on French horn. I am currently getting my Master's degree in French horn Performance from UCLA. I enjoy helping other French hornist master this instrument and hope they find the love and fun in playing this beast of an instrument!
About Beckie
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, clarinet, and voice.
I recently graduated from UCLA with my masters in music on French horn. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with two degrees in music- music performance on French horn and music education.
My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 15 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.
I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and California Philharmonic.
I currently am a freelance musician. I perform with different orche
I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!
*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to go at the pace of the student. I am very patient but I expect the student to practice during the week. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.
For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.
I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)
I also have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

Playing the horn has been a life long passion of mine and has been both rewarding and demanding. It has kept me on the road and enabled me to meet wonderful people from all walks of life as well as great musicians and artists who have been truly inspiring. They have strengthened my belief in a close knit world wide family of generous and creative human beings striving to change the world for the better. As a performer and a teacher, I am involved in numerous projects with young musicians and artists, and I would love to share the knowledge I've learned from my teachers, and experience as performer with music lovers at any level, from beginner to the advanced student.
About Trevor
I love to keep my students motivated and focused in a very positive and creative atmosphere. I am here to instill my students desire to make great music, and develop, grow, and achieve a greater confidence in themselves as performers.
My students can expect to improve week to week in their technique and music making. Every student has different specific needs, and it is my job to develop a custom tailored approach to ensure their needs are met.
My teaching methods are derived from my own experience as a performer, a
I teach music students of all different ages and experience levels. My goal for new or beginning students is to apply solid foundational techniques and foster a disciplined daily practice routine to ensure their progress on the horn accelerates. In order to become a great horn player for many years and maintain a beautiful sound, it is essential to have a strong solid foundation and daily routine. Together, we will find a suitable warm up method, as well as daily exercises and etudes in order to develop a strong embouchure, unlock their own individual sound, and play as relaxed as possible.
For the intermediate level or advanced students, I work on higher level etudes and technical exercises, and the building and refinement of the solo horn repertoire.
I am also glad to assist with school/orchestra audition preparation, and any other specific needs or goals the student is interested in or requests.
While my personal passion and musical endeavor is the French Horn, I am open to assisting other musicians and instrumentalists interested in developing their musical skills.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
