Take lessons from a Ph. D of music! I've studied vocal performance for 15 years now, singing and teaching all styles. Aside from my performing experience, I've carefully studied the anatomy and physics of singing well, and how to get that knowledge across clearly in a one-on-one session. In these lessons, I guarantee that you will notice improvements quickly, no matter what style of music you want to sing.

A country voice is usually a relaxed voice with deep rich tones. Crossover singers can tend to push too hard and sound strained. I teach you to be comfortable in that saddle and sing from the heart. All the correct breathing and resonating techniques must be followed. Its like driving a car, whether its NASCAR or Interstate 405, you better be a well tuned machine or you're gonna end up getting towed. I can teach a wide variety of country styles and vocal quality affects.

The voice is our first instrument, and accordingly, our most natural one to express the creative impulses of our soul. However, there are several challenges we need to overcome in order to make it really shine. The first is that we hear our own voice differently than others hear it - from "inside our head." So it takes some practice to learn different ways of hearing ourselves. The second challenge is that most music doesn't happen in isolation, but with other people's involvement. So unless you plan to sing "a capella" (without instrumental accompaniment) and just for your own enjoyment, you need to learn how to relate what you sing to other sounds. This requires a good deal of practice and it is certainly easier with the help of a skilled teacher to help you learn not only what to listen for, but how to control your voice to make it do what you want. Then there are technical refinements like breath control, articulation, intonation, projection, resonance, ear training, etc. More advanced students may want to learn things like harmonizing and improvisational techniques. I can help you with all these things. And I'll serve as a sounding board, giving you feedback and helping you become more aware of how to listen to the subtleties of your voice, and how to control it so you can express yourself more fully. (Hint: beyond simply putting a "country" twang into your words, some of these subtle nuances of the voice are what distinguishes country vocals from other genres, and knowing what to listen for is the first step in learning from some of the truly great country vocalists.) Above all, I'll encourage you to sing from your heart - to stay in touch with what moves you in a song, and to use the power of your voice to touch others' hearts.

I have a passion for teaching people to sing to the best of their ability with the instrument they have been given! I want to teach others to sing like THEM, not like someone else or in a certain style, but to unlock their potential! There aren't shortcuts, but we can be relaxed, comfortable, and laugh on the journey to improvement! This is first and foremost a safe space to make mistakes and learn the correct way to use our bodies to sing. I have a bachelor's degree in music and performance from the University of North Georgia and have been teaching lessons for over eight years with students of all ages and backgrounds. I am excited to share what I have learned to help YOU sing to the best of your ability!
