I received six hours of college credit in English from Trinity University based upon my entrance exam scores. As a substitute teacher I have taught English and Language Arts at all levels from kindergarten through high school. I have tutored students in English and Language Arts at all levels. My daughter was diagnosed with expressive language disorder. I tutored her extensively in English throughout elementary school, middle school, high and college. She graduated from Texas Lutheran University with degrees in Accounting, Finance and Business Administration in 2010.

Tim is an excellent teacher. He is great with my 9 year old daughter in her piano lessons. He is very patient, and quite passionate about music. He takes the time to answer my daughter's many questions, and has helped to further her passion for piano playing. She has been taking lessons with him for almost a year now, and has enjoyed and benefited from every minute. I couldn't ask for a better piano teacher!

This teacher let me 9 year old struggle through piano pieces he hadn't played in month during his first lesson, although I made sure to let him know that my son hadn't played in over half a year. The teacher sat there in silence as my child struggled through the pieces. He didn't give any positive or constructive feedback as my child sat there in silence struggling. He took a phone call during our 30 minute lesson and wrote comments in his notebook, visible to my child such as "rusty" "needs improvement". I was tempted to rescue my son after 15 minutes, but hoped that some instruction would soon take place, it didn't. Not suitable for young children in my opinion. Definitely will not return.

Mr K. takes a very solid and practical approach. He has really helped me understand what the body needs for singing. I would recommend him to anybody really wanting a formal instruction and a "backbone" for vocal technique.

Emphasis on Grammar

Combine subjects for a price break. For example 30 minutes of Math and 45 minutes of English would cost $50 separately, but would cost $45 for 75 minutes of Combined Tutoring. Simply choose ONE subject for the amount of tutoring time desired, and notify me which subjects you'd like to cover.

I help students who are first learning the English language. I'll help you develop your spoken English as well as then help you improve written English. I teach English by immersion - words are not taught out of context. Rather we will have conversations in English. This will help you learn the English syntax as well as the proper use of English words.

Charis C.

Brooklyn, NY

My approach to teaching and coaching language learners comes from decades of teaching New York City students from all over the world, and the fact that my ancestors have been speaking English for over 1,000 years. I also spent my childhood tutoring a younger brother for whom the language arts were difficult, and with great success: he is now a voracious reader and a history scholar who writes every day. Along with teaching, I’m an award-winning, published writer and spent twenty years editing and coaching some of the world’s most respected writers, along with students of all ages. Along with traditional approaches to language teaching, I also incorporate customized counseling methods that give students a confidence in their abilities and an enthusiasm for English that will set them free.

Charis is brilliant. Her marvelous sense of humor, curiosity, and expertise with language, literature and the making of beautiful things, would make learning anything with her a pure delight, as well as a privilege. As it happens, she is a masterful writer, editor and expediter of creative dreams -in a genuinely original, even magical way- every time I see her, I find I've got five new ideas and my sense of reality feels enlivened and enlarged.

Charis was able to help me condense my complex ideas into something impactful and understandable; taking ideas that I couldn't quite verbalize and rephrasing them in a way that seems as if she is reading my mind. She takes into account the writers personality when helping edit. Her feedback is extraordinary, it will certainly inspire you to write more than you knew you had within you. Just a few sessions boosted my confidence in my writing ability and as a human being in general. Her belief in the writer will undoubtedly generate a higher belief in themselves.

What's the Best Way to Learn a New Language? Find Out the Truth
Once you've decided you want to learn a new language, you need to determine which method to use. Researching the wide selection of learning materials and methods, however, can be overwhelming. Countless programs claim they're the "best way to learn a language," and that they will help you speak like a native in just a few days. With so many options to choose from, how can you know which of these claims you can trust? How can you determine the best way to learn a new language, for you?

Why TakeLessons?

Language Lessons

Learning a new language can be quite challenging for students of any age. Is your son or daughter taking a language in school and finding that it's more difficult than they expected? Luckily, there's no reason for them to struggle through learning a new language. Private language tutoring can help your student get ahead in their language class, even if they've fallen behind their peers.

The Benefits Of Language Tutoring

There are many benefits your child will enjoy right away once they start language tutoring with TakeLessons. The value of one-on-one instruction, especially in a subject like a foreign language, is huge. Your child will have the privilege of learning with a tutor who has a terrific understanding of their foreign language, and who will be able to quiz them and go over words they find difficult over and over again. Our language tutors make learning a new language enjoyable. Your child will be challenged every time they sit down with their tutor, and it won't be long before they stop viewing learning a new language as a chore, and start seeing it as something fun.

What Will You Get With Language Tutoring?

Regardless of what language your son or daughter has chosen to take in school, our tutors are fully equipped to help them. Each language has its own difficulties and it's important to work with a tutor who has complete understanding of the language. Your tutoring will help your child in areas such as vocabulary, verb conjugation, and speaking in their chosen language conversationally.

Language tutoring offers your child advantages that just sitting in a classroom setting cannot. You'll be amazed at how quickly your son or daughter can pick up important language concepts by working with a tutor individually. If your child is struggling with a foreign language, our language tutoring program can put an end to their struggles. We also offer a 100% Money Back Guarantee, flexible scheduling, and a handy online account to manage your schedule and more. For more information, contact us today!
