Jillian V.

Harrison, NY

About Jillian

I have a Master's degree in Music Therapy, am a nationally board certified music therapist (MT-BC); performer and vocal instructor (Bachelor's in Classical Voice); certified yoga instructor and meditation guide (200+); certified and attuned Reiki master; professional freelance writer and editor.

...I find joy in a lot of places! And often I find these areas of study inform and augment each other.

Music therapy has afforded me a great deal of experience working with children, teens, and adults with special needs including, autism, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbances a
nd developmental delays as well as teens and adults with psychosocial issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, personality disorders, and more.

I incorporate my experience as a therapist into the educative setting.

As a voice teacher, I want to help my students settle comfortably into their own musicality by showing them the building blocks of a solid technique, drawing particularly from the things that helped me grow as a vocalist. I want my students to feel strong in their body, comfortable and relaxed in their breath, and confident in their performance.

I have worked professionally as an editor of scholarly writing on both the college and post-college level, as well as a professional editor of multiple dissertations, and other publications. Being a creative person, I find language to be a wonderful way to express thoughts and emotions as well as communicate deeply with others.

As a certified yoga instructor, I teach in many locations throughout Westchester. I was trained at Yoga Haven in Scarsdale, New York with Betsy Kase, and earned a 200-hour certificate in Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. I offer private yoga instruction and meditation at my home studio. My studio comes fully equipped with all yoga props, aromatherapy, and music. Hands-on-assists and personalized classes offered to deepen your experience.

It is a joy to offer Reiki to curious, open clients in need of energy healing. Reiki is a noninvasive energy healing technique totally separate of any religious affiliation and available to anyone. It is a difficult to describe the relaxing, soothing, and deep-healing effects of Reiki to someone who has never experienced.

Please feel free to inquire about any of my services!

*Note: If you don't see a time slot that is suitable to your needs but would like to try a session or lesson with me, feel free to register for the Flex Plan, and we will work out week-to-week times!!**

**Note: If you are interested in music therapy, please email me with a bit about yourself and your personal goals.

I feel I'm in good hands with Jillian and that she knows her stuff. ONe thing that makes her stand out is that I can email practice recordings to her during the week and get feedback without waiting until next lesson.

Douglas S.

Bridgeport, CT

About Douglas

I combine my two decades of experience as a professional tutor and corporate writer with my own personal understanding of the learning struggles faced by students to create unique methods for every student to learn, regardless of the subject. I use creative innovations to make learning fun and enjoyable for my students. My students quickly see how much I care for their progress and success. Many have chosen to retain me as their tutor for more than a year.

I had the opportunity to work with Douglas a number of times during my tenure as a part-time instructor at SCORE Educational Center. What I noticed about him was that he related very well to the children he worked with - he was a very enthusiastic tutor of English and math! He was most generous with the "high fives" and praise, and he also knew how to get students back on track if their focus strayed. Also, I saw him work very well with the parents; he always took the time to patiently explain lesson plans and students' progress between sessions. I have known Douglas personally for many years. He was the one who encouraged me to work at SCORE Educational Center given my background in Education - I thank him for that because I enjoyed my time there very much while I was able to stay (unfortunately, I had to leave that position for a full-time job elsewhere). SCORE Educational Center is no longer in existence. Douglas currently works as an independent tutor, and given how long I've seen clients stick with him, I have no doubt that they are enjoying the same level of attention and enthusiasm he provided at SCORE. When he speaks about the progress of independent clients and how they respond to him, it is with enthusiasm and a glowing smile. If you are looking for a tutor that is intelligent, dedicated, enthusiastic, and simply great with kids and parents, then Douglas is your man.

Tori S.

Cos Cob, CT

About Tori

I am a certified tutor with the National Tutoring Association. I am a student at Sarah Lawrence College where I study writing and psychology. I excel at math and English. I helped teach my AP Statistics course. During high school I tutored fellow students in various levels of math from Algebra 1 & 2 through AP Statistics.
I also helped fellow students with writing and grammar. I was the editor of my high school literary magazine and helped students with editing. I also did a day of service in high school where I helped 1st graders with their arithmetic worksheets.
I also have experience tut
oring elementary students in reading, reading fluency, and writing.
As a tutor, I tailor the techniques I use to the individual being tutored. People learn differently; it is important to use the particular student's strengths to help them understand and work through whatever they are struggling with. I am extremely patient and try my best to motivate my students and help them stay confident in their ability to work through anything!
I would like to tutor students in the areas of Greenwich, Old Greenwich, Cos Cob, Glenvillle, Riverside, Stamford, Rye, etc.

Tamari W.

Milford, CT

About Tamari

Hi, there! My name is Tamar; I'm called Tamari, informally, and Tamara for the stage, and I can't wait to meet you!

I've been teaching private lessons for many, many years and have loved helping my students acquire new skills, master new pieces, and prepare for concerts and performances. Over the years, my younger students have earned Blue and Gold ratings at the Young Musicians' Festival in Fairfield U., some of them earning gold cups: This is a statewide event to encourage long-term commitment to the art, discipline and joy of music making.
I went to Indiana University's Jacob School
of Music and earned a Masters in Piano Performance, and Composition in the '90's. I sang all types of vocal music as well as prepared singers with vocal coaching and voice development techniques 20+ years.
I'm fun loving, patient, and optimistic-- these traits carry through in my teaching style,
One Size does NOT fit all--I approach the lesson plans for each student tailored to your learning style.
Over the past 23 years, my life experiences have encompassed other disciplines and compelled me to learn and acquire many other skills: my liberal arts as well as fine arts education lent itself to helping me work administrative jobs and even expanded into sales and public speaking. I have coached after school and SAT preparation to High School and College age students, helped with the preparation of legal and analytical documents, creative writing and editing assignments; and even tutored computer, social media and Microsoft Office & iWork Suite of applications to older adults.

I look forward to helping you reach your goals

As a fellow teacher, pianist and choral director, I know a fine musician and teacher when I see one, and I am happy to recommend Tamari Witkin as an outstanding teacher of piano, voice and composition. As a highly versatile, knowledgeable, multi-faceted musician and coach, she motivates her students of all ages, from beginner to advanced levels, to keep reaching for ever-higher levels. Tamari's enthusiasm and creativity as an instructor make taking lessons from her both interesting and fun. She skillfully and thoughtfully communicates the language, meaning and joy of making music. Tamari is exceptional in encouraging and motivating her students. These qualities are what make up the keys to what it's all about; the bottom line: one would be hard-pressed to find a better balanced and effective teacher of music.

I am a fellow musician and piano teacher. I've known Tamari for well over a decade, and know her to be a dedicated teacher of piano. I've heard her sing at performances hosted by The Schubert Club of Fairfield County here in Connecticut, and she is quite skilled. I haven't seen Tamari in a formal piano performance, but we've sight-read piano music together at home, and she is very capable. Tamari's greatest strength is her warm and caring personality, which is essential for relating to students. Put that together with her excellent musical training, and you have a dynamite teacher.

I have known Tamari Witkin for about four years through a very active music club called The Schubert Club of Fairfield County. She and I have performed vocal duets for the other members of the club on two occasions, and recently we were members of a quartet presenting music from a Bach Cantata. In addition, I have listened to her perform as a solo pianist on several occasions and was impressed with her musical ability.
Tamari is delightful to perform with, because her musicianship is highly professional, and she works well with other performers. In rehearsal, she is able to communicate her ideas about the inner structure of the music, giving her partners clear insights into the composer’s intent that helps them achieve a more satisfying performance.
I have been a voice teacher for over forty years, teaching both young and older students the craft of singing. My long years of experience have taught me that effective communication (from teacher to student) lies at that heart of developing an artist. Although I have not witnessed Tamari in a teaching capacity, I believe from the association I have had with her that she would be an effective and capable teacher.

Faisal H.

New Haven, CT

About Faisal

I started studying statistics in 2000, when I was studying Medical Sciences at Umm Al-Qura Unversity. On 2007, I got a scholarship to study Biostatistics at the University of Waterloo. I spent three years there studying undergraduate courses in Mathematics and Statistics. In 2011, I was admitted to the University of Vermont to study for a master's in Biostatistics. I can help students in understanding Statistics and Math more deeply. I used to tutor my colleagues in a Medical Sciences program and at Mathnasium Learning Center. So I think I have the ability to explain concepts so easily that ev
eryone can understand the material very well. My tutoring service is affordable compared to other tutors, and the reason is that I want to help people understand Statistics and Math without spending too much money. I am not looking for money as much as I am looking for helping people understand Statistics and Math.
