Dorothy P.

Hillsborough, NC

About Dorothy

Hello potential student! Let me introduce myself: I am a university-level Spanish and writing coach with 23 years of teaching experience. I earned a BA in Language and Literature at Yale University, a
nd I have taught at Yeshiva University, Columbia University, and the New York College of Medicine. I am currently earning an MFA in creative writing at The University of the South.

I wrote my own book on beginning Spanish grammar for medical students at Einstein College of Medicine, and for many years I was a Spanish language curriculum developer and top teacher at Manhattan's Latin American Workshop language school. I have taught at a number of corporations, including General Motors, Brooklyn Legal Services, IBM and Trinity Investments.

But don't get the idea that I'm too high-falutin' to teach basic Spanish or help the struggling young writer! I enjoy introducing beginner students to my subjects, and I enliven my classes with music, poetry and art. I teach a lot of adults, but I also tutor high school students.
In additional to helping you with your Spanish or Writing skills, I also coach my students in how to practice on their own so that skills get sharper outside of class time as well.

Finally, I am sensitive to the fact that different people have different learning styles, so I adapt my approach for each student.

Have questions? Don't hesitate to write to me. I am also on the Take Lessons app, so if you're in a pickle we can connect that way, too.

Jennifer is a wonderful teacher! My daughter looks forward to each lesson because Jennifer makes learning fun. This is my daughter's first time learning a musical instrument and Jennifer is very good with a beginner. She's prompt, kind, patient and encouraging. We will continue taking lessons from her!
