My passion is sharing music with people.

I am musician and a visual artist who earned a Masters certification in Songwriting and Guitar from Berklee College of Music.
As an artist I have been featured on MTV, Rollingstone, BBC, NBC, VOA, ARY, Alt Press, LA times, documentaries and more. I have been playing guitar and recording music since childhood and am a classically trained sitar player and Indian classical vocalist. I sing and play guitar in the Mystical Dance punk band Sarmust, and I also produce electronic music under the name Evilartform.

sarmust.com

evilartform.com

I am a great teacher for someone who wants to write songs, or is into Indie, rock, pop, reggae, metal, hip-hop, and electronica.

I love to answer questions and learn things I don't know, I know a good amount about guitar repair, improvised instrument building, how to buy a good instrument and not spend to much, and I have a vast knowledge of obscure instruments, and audio production as well. Feel free to ask me questions, and expect informative non-judgmental answers.

I have spent a lot of time developing as a vocalist, songwriter, composer and producer, which helps me in all aspects of my music and teaching, I'm always looking to learn more. I have played in heavy metal bands, but have also done solo acoustic singer/songwriting stuff, I have produced raw hip-hop but also love old soul and ska tunes. Being well rounded musically and drawing from lots of influences is what makes me a good teacher and shapes me as a musician.

*** Lesson Details/ What to Expect ***

You can expect a custom, fun and attentive one on one lesson. I am thorough and patient. I expect you to love music and put forth effort. I'm laid back, I will work as fast or as slow as you need. I prefer a total immersion technique and get my students playing right away. This boosts confidence and fosters interest because once a student enjoys playing you don't have to convince them to practice.

By the first lesson you will be familiar with the instrument and it's parts, and playing your first chord.

In 3-6 months you will be playing guitar with a greater knowledge of chords, basic harmony and be able to play scales and songs.

Once you have a foundation of chords we can explore more specific music subjects and lessons will become more personalized: songwriting, guitar tones, musicology, making a DIY record, shredding like a metal head, I can guide you to help you achieve your goals.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Studying in my live/studio space located in Artist Lofts near Brookland metro in NE DC. It has a high ceilings and full stage back line including keyboards, drum set, live sound system multiple amps and more. There is seating for parents and recording capabilities.

I had one lesson with Omar before he got a big break in his career and had to move to LA. He was patient and extremely knowledgeable and he expanded my knowledge of fundamentals of the guitar neck as well as posture for my fret hand. He even spent an extra 25 minutes with me! Great news for him that he had to leave, but bad news for me.

About Jessie
Thank you for your interest in lessons! I hope to help you achieve your goals and improve your skills, whether you're looking for music lessons, help in math, or need someone to proofread your essay before you turn it in. Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to their individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career, and the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of knowled
ge that will always enrich their lives.

I have been tutoring and teaching private lessons for over five years, and currently have over 40 active students. I received my bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on vocal performance at the University of Redlands in 2011, and my Associate of Arts degree in 2008 from College of the Desert. Currently I teach online, locally, and at my studio, and cover a variety of subjects such as voice, music, theater, piano, math, english, music theory, just to name a few.

For academic tutoring (i.e. math, theory, vocabulary) I work on helping the student understand their homework and help prepare them for tests. I can also provide worksheets if necessary and am prepared to demonstrate problem areas in different ways if needed, because everyone learns differently. For voice, piano, music, and acting lessons I teach the student based on what their current level is. If you have no experience, that's okay! My lessons are uniquely designed to fit your needs no matter what level you may be.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women, Seussical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer in churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to stay active in the performance industry, because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it!

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life they will achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having fun doing it!

*Note: My home office has a lot of stairs and also two cats that live with me. If you are disabled or have a feline allergy, please consider in-home lessons or lessons online.

About Rosita
I have been singing and studying voice for over 23 years since I was a child! I hold a Bachelors from Musicians Institute and other accomplished degrees from American Musical Dramatic Academy to conclude my quest for vocal excellence and the ability to sing in multiple languages ( English, Spanish, Japanese and Italian) I have been lucky enough to study with some of the top teachers in the country and now I bring the experience I have gained directly to you!
I am proud to share my student's vast array of musical successes. From being cast on short anime films and musicals to being accepted in
to prestigious performing arts academies to conquering the Karaoke scene. My passion for multiple languages and love of music is the desire driving me to share the gifts for teaching young children to open the door to their own musical abilities and hidden artistic desires. I am currently writing a musical which will be debuting in 2020. I'm currently the vocal coach and choir director at Iglesia Elim Central.

I will make sure my students have fun and help them get in the right track to their musical goals.

Also, I constantly upload videos on Singing, The Spanish Language, and Japanese! So keep Checking in! It ranges on tips and answering the most common questions on those particular subjects!

*** Lesson Details ***
I do my absolute best to create a positive atmosphere for my students. Even when the students feel frustrated or stressed, it is important to inspire them and give them the fuel that they need. Though I am strict when it comes to homework and their about their studies. Every lesson at the beginning I will review what we learned previously and test them.
then begin with proper breathing technique exercises, the cornerstone of all vocals. We move on to vocal exercises to condition the voice. Then we work on the songs that you are eager to sing!

I will use a piano when doing vocal warm ups and conditioning exercises. Students that play other instruments and accompany themselves when performing (such as a guitar) are encouraged to bring that instrument to their lessons. My goal is for them to gain the knowledge that they need to help reach their artistic goals.
With all my lessons every student will be taught a basic run down of Music Theory. My students will always progress in what they do. They will have the discipline that they need and yet have fun and be filled with inspiration. Which is the most important thing, to be Inspired to do better.

*** Studio Equipment ***
iMac, condensing mic...performing mic, keyboard, mixer...living room of apartment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do have a portable keyboard. Though I do expect the student to have their own recording device and karaoke tracks. At Home I do have a studio, and if the students has an iPod or an Mp3 player I can attach it to a device where all of us can hear the tracks. I do have a recording studio as well.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Musical Theatre, and Pop rock genres. When I teach my students I always have them learn a song of another language whether it's Spanish or Japanese. It helps with diction when they learn a song outside the English Language. Also It helps them to learn another Language at the same time. Also I give them a little anatomy class when they are learning how to sing. I give them a model of the vocal Chords and different areas of the Larynx and which part works for the chest voice and the head voice.

About Yanshao
Hi, my name is Yan. I'm a full-time math & Chinese tutor.

I'm patient and good at explaining in ways that suits the student's style of understanding. I'm passionate about what I do and in my heart's heart, I believe everyone can thrive in math if given the right guidance and everyone can learn to speak Chinese despite it being conceived as a difficult language.

For math:
1. I have a Bachelor's in Math and have had 16 years of experience working with students from high school and college as well as adult learners, in one-on-one, small groups and medium classroom settings.
2. I am fa
miliar with the methods common core uses and also WHAT MAKES ME STAND OUT IS THE SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE WAYS (CALL THEM TRICKS IF YOU MAY) TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS THAT ALWAYS MADE MY STUDENTS' WONDER WHY THEIR SCHOOL DIDN'T TEACH THEM IN THAT WAY.
3. Subjects I tutor in:
Algebra 1 & 2, pre-calculus. College-level math: from basic math to pre-calculus.
Test prep: Math in SAT/SAT Subject I & II/GED, placement and assessment tests.

What to expect from my math sessions:
Besides the familiarity I have with the materials from the 16 years of tutoring experience, I always ask for a copy of the specific materials (lectures, notes and homework) that we need for a particular session from the students beforehand and I thoroughly preview before I get to a session. I always tailor the sessions according to the student's specific needs, usually combining explanations of the concepts and supervised exercises together.I make sure the goals for the sessions are accomplished.

For students who have anxiety or who don't have confidence when it comes to math:
I'll show the students how to dissect a math problem and solve it step by step. Once the student sees how it's manageable with each simple step, he or she will gain confidence in their math skills and therefore reducing their anxiety around math.

For Chinese:
1. I'm a native speaker and have had 16 years of experience of teaching/tutoring Chinese from young children to adults one-on-one and in small classroom settings.
2. Subjects I cover:
Young children (3-5) beginner, all age groups from 6 to adult, beginner & intermediate.
Test Prep: HSK, SAT Chinese, AP Chinese.
Business, travel, conversational, culture.
Pinyin, Grammar, Listening, Writing, Reading, Typing.
Simplified & Traditional.

What to expect from my Chinese sessions:
I cater my classes to the students' specific needs. With young kids, I utilize Chinese songs, games, apps to keep students engaged. With older students and adult learners, I explain things more logically, giving the roots of how words and sentence structures have come about. I always include culture tidbits in the lessons as understanding the culture is an essential part of understanding the language and vice versa.

I also work with students for test preps in HSK, SAT Chinese and AP Chinese.

And I emphasize on drilling students to have correct pronunciations from the beginning and on developing their abilities to make sentences on their own by utilizing the material taught in the lessons right away.

If I sound like a good match to you and your children, please don't hesitate to send me a message today and let the improvements on your grades and confidence grow today!

Cancellation Policy:
If you can't make it to a session, whether it's to cancel or reschedule, please give me a 24 hour notice to avoid any fee.
Any notification given within 24 hours of the session or no-show is subject to a fee of the full amount of the scheduled session. (eg. if you booked one hour, the fee is the hourly rate; if you booked 2 hours, the fee is the hourly rate *2).

She helped my daughter catch up within a few lessons. She was knowledgable but gentle and my daughter enjoyed working with her.
