Diane B.

Fresno, CA

About Diane

My degrees are in psychology (BA) and law (JD). Studying psychology, I learned that children have learning styles related to their personalities. For instance, children with high levels of energy seem
to learn better when actively engaged as they learn, and more introverted children don't like to be put on the spot, but they do want their teacher's attention and they enjoy interaction with one person at a time. I also learned that categorizing concepts helps with memorization, which is how I scored at the 94th percentile on the Verbal section of the GRE, plus I've learned some tricks for performing complex calculations quickly. I've taught Reading and Math to students in kindergarten through 5th grade in Oakland, California. I've also tutored college students for an undergraduate psychology class, and later law students for their criminal law class. I taught the 4 and 5 year old Sunday School class at my church throughout my teen years, so I'm quite familiar with this age group.

Daniel D.

Fresno, CA

About Daniel

Good tutors not only help students feel they can conquer the world.
Students come back with conquests to prove it--excellent grades.
They lose their fear of math and making mistakes completely.
The
y have fun. They're fearless. They're free.
They become curious and try something out and see the results.

For good tutors success brings great joy with a little tinge of sorrow as good tutors strive to work themselves out of their jobs. Their students become independent and no longer need tutoring. And that is a good
thing.

My son came to me excited he had googled up youtube videos on infinity and learned about power sets and why some infinities are larger than other infinities. This was a month or two before he turned 4 years old.

Perhaps someone failed to teach him that math was hard, impossible, or for geniuses only and he never learned to be afraid to try. But my daughter is already out of college and works for a great computer company called Nutanix.

If you are struggling with Algebra and would like some help getting past some roadblocks or getting over fear, I would be happy to help.

Although I may seem to have an intimidating background in math and computer science, tutoring is not about me; it is about you. It is not my job to impress you with my skill to solve the problems you face. It is my job to listen, to understand you, your struggles, and the concepts that may be blocking your progress and help you master those skills fast.

I'm Daniel J. D. I received my BA in Mathematics in 1986 with a minor in Physics at California State University, Fresno and studied Computer Science at the graduate level at Stanford Universe in the 1990's. During my undergraduate studies at Fresno State, I competed in the math competition two years taking first place one year and second place the other year and beating out engineering, physics, math and computer science students.

I have worked in highly technical roles at NASA, Ingres, Oracle, and PeopleSoft and built an IT Department as a Director of Operations and IT and Chief Systems Architect for a successful Internet startup company.

Whether you choose me for your tutor or someone else, I wish you the greatest success and happiness in your pursuits!
